A nest?
Little tufts of fur around a plant….
(I pulled a photo switcharoonie to make it a little more challenging!)
Though it looks like some kind of creature from a film like Lord of the Rings…it looks like there is a hole for the nest amid the roots of a fern…with fur or feathers…which I hope are not dinner leftovers :confused:

If I had to guess it’s either fur or bird feathers strewn around. I’ve seen that a few times when one of my cats leaves me presents on the back porch.
Okay, after the hint picture, I’m thinking it’s a bird’s nest. Isn’t there a type of bird that actually builds its nest in the ground? :duh:
