Each Monday, I post the weekly Call for Entries along with the previous weeks completed portrait (above). I may change the subject theme each week, or leave the theme open, so please pay close attention to the details in each announcement.
Entries will be accepted through Friday afternoon around 5PM CST, at which time I will close comments and select one winner from the entries received. I’ll publish the completed winning portrait with the following week’s Giveaway announcement. If you’re a fan on Facebook, you might just get a sneak peek at the winning portrait before I publish it here!
Qualified entries will include a valid e-mail address, and the comment should include one link to a photograph owned/taken by the entrant. If you do not have a place to upload photos to link one, you can e-mail it to gallery *at* intricateart dot-com. Your entry, however, should be included in the comment section below, with your story – should you choose to include one.
The Selection Process: In case you’re curious, I’ll share my little artsy process in selecting the winner. First – I do not read any entries at all during the week. I do not read them because I don’t want anyone’s entries to have any more time than any others to settle in my creative brain. At the end of the week, I close comments. When I sit down to go through all of the entries, I read the story first, and open the photo link in a new window. When I finish reading, I flip over to the photo and my initial reaction is what I go by.
If your entry is not chosen, you may enter again. I encourage you to include a short story with your entry.
Once you have won a portrait, I ask that you refrain from multiple entries, to give others an opportunity to win one as well.
Your challenge? To inspire me! Choose your photo wisely – I will select a winner based on how the photo and/or story moves me.
Good luck!!

Oh my goodness, it’s so lovely!! I just emailed you back. Thank you thank you thank you!!!
To say someone will be greatly missed will be a true understatement. Haas came into our lives about three years ago when we adopted him from the pound. He became our son / best friend. He was a great pheasant hunter and was always over excited to run after a tennis ball. Last week Aug 4th will forever be the worst day of my life. In one day we lost our best friend (hit by a car) and had a miscarriage. I wanted to enter this contest for my husband. I thought it would be nice to have a portrait of Haas to put with his memorial display box. I will be e-mailing the picture. Thank you!
What a sweet portrait!!!
Beautifully done as always. Your portraiture is just astounding. I still look at the portrait you did of Mojo and it fills my heart so fully. You have a gift, my dear.
That is a beautiful likeness of Jeff and very well done!
Another sad story here… I know I’ve won a portrait of Foofur for myself, but I hope you don’t mind entering for my husband Ron. As Foofur is my dog, our furry friend Boris was his. That doesn’t mean we both love both dogs like crazy!
We got Boris when he was two years old. His owner was moving to Africa and couldn’t take him. Through an e-maillist I heard about him. When we drove to Belgium to get him, he enchanted us with his beautiful eyes. 🙂 He was a big friend to evryone, including Foofur and the cats. Bastet, our black cat, was his buddy: she washed him, cared for him, slept close to him…
Unfortunately Boris got sick some weeks ago. We tried everything, but things got worse. It turned out he had an inoperable brain tumor. We had to take a difficult decision, but we let him go to the Rainbowbridge this week (Monday). He didn’t deserve to suffer. We miss him sooo much…
His picture is here: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=72405&id=677652271&saved#/photo.php?pid=2102495&id=677652271
OOps, of course I meant to say we both love both our dogs like crazy!
Well, this was a hard one. 🙂 I would like to offer up http://farm1.static.flickr.com/188/420686866_d044ccec16_o.jpg for consideration. It is a photo of my lovely JoZe as a pup. I lost her at 16 months old, she ate something that got stuck in her intestines and I was heartbroken and shocked when the vet called during her surgery to say she could not be saved. I still believe she was trying to send me a message – 2-3 months after her death I was diagnosed with colon cancer. (I was having symptoms at the time I lost her). She was a vibrant life! Won’t ever forget her and all the joy she brought in her short life.
I forgot to comment on your great portrait – I saw it on facebook but don’t think I said anything there – he is just a doll and of course you are magical!
Hello! I hope I am doing this right. Please find a picture of our beloved horse, Maxx (e-mailed). He was a longtime resident of Castskill Animal Sanctuary, a haven for abused and abandoned farm animals. Maxx was a former show horse who hurt his leg when jumping a fence. His owner was dying of cancer and asked CAS to take him in. She wanted him to live the rest of his days at CAS and to not be adopted out. Maxx was an incredibly kind and gentle animal. He was the horse that everyone learned with: how to put on a halter, how to walk a horse, how to groom, etc. He actually helped you put his halter on and take it off. His favorite game was giving you a backrub. Sadly, Maxx was euthanized on August 5th due to severe hoof problems. He was nearly 40 years old. His halter reads: Maxx — you are loved. And he always will be.
I hope that you will consider drawing this beautiful animal for our silent art auction. Thank you.
