  • Pick my Brain

Now that the new design is (nearly) complete, I feel like I should be making the other change I wanted to make – which is all about the content.

I wanted to really do more – to write more, to really get into things because admittedly, I’ve been holding back. I hold back about my family, my kids – my processes in painting, technology and design. Believe it or not, I do know a lot of stuff. Now, it may or may not be accurate, but there’s a lot of stuff just sitting here in my head collecting dust. It’s time to clean off the cobwebs in my brain and start sharing more. Care a little less about what has caused me to clam up and retreat into my safety zone, and ever so cautiously wander back out into what used to be my comfortable, wysiwyg blog. The good old days. When I poured my heart out and allowed myself to be vulnerable – until one day when someone thought it would be really swell to use that vulnerable spot and jab a knife or ten into it.

I worked up this design in such a way that I’d feel “it” again. The “it” I lost. The “it” that once was, the “it” that allowed you guys to really know me. (BTW, You can also find “it” on eBay.)

Now, I’m inching forward, taking the next step, hearing the eggshells crunch and crack beneath my feet. Hold me.

Today I’m just going to open up my comments for questions of any kind. Pick my brain. Ask me anything. Blog or website related, design, photography, gardening, family, personal or art – ask away, and I’ll reply in comments.

Sorry to hear you got all scarred up. One of the pitfalls of a public forum, I guess. But look… now you’ve got a set of ten knives to use. (I hope they’re a matching set.)

Can’t think of anything to ask right now, but I may be back with a question later.

Okay, I’ll ask the same question someone else did… can’t remember who, problem remembering who I am!!
What are those icons for – the del.icio.us, fark, furl, dig, etc???
#2) I like Crusty’s comments about the set :good:
#3) Remember – it IS a public forum….. It’s not just friends or people who love and approve of you that read blogs….
#4) Some people don’t care if they hurt other people, so you need to toughen up if you’re going to recapture “it”… which in my opinion, is where we would all love to be once more! Trusting, caring, sensitive… ruined by rats.
    #5) Maybe I’m too sensitive…
    I love you!

I have one question – not critisism (sp), Is it my monitor, or are the numbers on the posts just a hinky too big??

I’m glad all your emoticons are still here. :bunny:

I’ll have your back! :sword girl emoticon:

I have wondered how to get the links to automatically show up, esp. for Thursday Thirteen, ‘cos it gets tiring manually placing peoples urls. Do you have a plug-in advice?

    :thanku:

The pressure! Think up a question on the spot?!?

A fairly broad question, but what inspires you?

regarding mom’s post- I think the numbers need to be smaller too. I can’t see the tops of them.

I love your “revamped” look! It’s so fresh looking!
I don’t really have any question to ask you…. Um….Oh- I do have one- I am SOOOO proud of all you have accomplished so far in life. You are an amazing person, friend and sister. I just want to know how you have managed to keep your cool this whole time. Really-I like to think I have a good head on my shoulders and an iron fist when needed, but I still crack and explode. I don’t think I’ve ever really seen/heard that from you. I know you get upset, but you keep your cool. How do you do it?
Anyway- Have a super fantastic day.

It’s always amazed me how some people think they can open up on someone online while in RL they would never think of doing that face to face. Believe me, it happens to all of us… but those people just don’t matter. Really.

My question: Where is the final scan of the mono kitties?? I’d been waiting, but knew you got really, really busy… Just wondering… :winking:

Love the new look. Nice and clean but with lots of details, like they used to build buildings.

No questions, but, hey, let it all hang out.

What’s a good book or website to start, in learning CSS?

We all put up blogwalls every now and then – no need to feel bad about it. We all also lose ‘it’ and then find ‘it’ again and lose it.. it’s a vicious circle. Good thing is.. ‘it’ usually keeps evolving into great things. :cyclops:

That cyclops icon is totally irrelevant to my comment, I just wanted to use it.

Hmm…question…question…when are you taking me shopping? I so need to get out of the house, you know.

Hey, I up and left when people found my blog. You have your name all over your blog, making it rather difficult to “blog free” if you know what I mean. Maybe you need a top secret place to blog your “true” self and use this one for the commercial aspect…just a thought. Just remember to give me your forwarding address.

As for my question, it is a two parter: What made you start blogging? Have you ever blogged naked? (ha! The second part is something that my husband would ask…IF he knew I had a blog).

Crusty: Thank you. Live and learn, you know? Thanks for hangin in through all the boring drooly stuff.

Mom: The icons are for folks who use those services to bookmark me if they should want to hang onto something that I write. You’re right about the paper thing – that was for my header design. Thanks for noticing! 🙂

Sword Girl: CA-Credits is the plugin of choice for linking back to your guests. You can download ca-credits here. It’s simple to configure, just throw the call to the function in the post area, and format it in your admin panel. 🙂

Nancy: A broad question deserves a broad answer, right? :winking: Everything beautiful inspires me. From feelings to moments and visually stimulating compositions to structures, animals and behavior.

Tommi: I don’t keep my cool, sister! I may not let many people see that, I’m just more private about the things that frustrate and/or upset me.

Pamibe: I gotchya covered today. Thanks for the kick in the pants!

Robin: Really cried. Bawled my eyes out cried to a point of hyperventilating – on September 25, 2006. Cried in a proud mama way several times since then, but that one in September was a big emotional release day.

    JAM: Thank you!

Christine: I have CSS Mastery by Andy Budd – but a majority of what I’ve learned is by trial & error and the example of other CSS. You learn quick not to copy but to study it until you know it, to fix it until you get it right, and to find resources to help you along online – like W3Schools.

Lisa: Just say when. Are you done with that book yet?

Usedtobeme: I’m glad I know who you used to be. heh. I started blogging back in 2003 when livejournal was the only place to do it that I knew of. I found that through an art community. Then I wandered out into the blogosphere and found out that I was missing out on a lot of stuff, livejournal was really enclosed and clique-y and I wanted to get out and stand on my own domain. I do like to write, but I wanted more of a place to document my art and progress. You know, to increase the value of my work through allowing people a more personal look into my life.

Thanks for all the great questions!

Now I have to format these comments. What a mess. LOL

Well, I’m just glad to have found you through Yellow Rose. I can’t imagine anyone being more patient with a non-geek than you were when you re-designed my blog. I won’t ask a question here, because I’ve asked too many already. But, I will say it’s amazing that you are able to express your talent in so many ways AND have a delightful family to boot. I know it must be scary to open up again and blog your heart out, but it will be fun to know more about you!
