Over the past week and a half, I have been dealing with this arm. Just the one, just a few times a day. I am at a loss now, and offer up my kid to the knowledgeable mom’s out here who might know what the heck I’m doing wrong. Because there’s no temp and nothing else associated with it, I have not bowed down to the expertise of our family physician – yet.

      • Cleaned with antibacterial soap. Clears the redness and reduces bumpies by half in half hour or so.
      • Locoid applications, a Rx hydrocortisone – seemed to irritate it. Did nothing to clear it up.
      • Washed, dried, bandaged in cotton overnight. Nope.
      • Washed, dried, medicated with benedryl cream overnight. Nope.
      • Benedryl cream after antibacterial soap. Helps clear it up faster, but it returns mid-day.
      • Washed bedding. Nope.
      • Washed pillows. Nope.
      • Bleach water solution on mattress. Nope.
      • Removed all stuffies from bed. Nope.
      • Use hypoallergenic, dye-free, scent-free laundry detergent and fabric softener – I’ve done this for years.
      • Pull hair up out of her face/arm area in case hair oils are causing it (she twists & plays with her hair with that arm).

Nothing. Nothing is making this go away. She goes to bed, she sleeps on her left side with her arm curled underneath her body. She wakes up, it looks horrible (see photo). I wash the hell out of it, let it air dry, put benedryl cream on it – it looks okay until mid afternoon. Another application of benedryl, it’s okay until bedtime. Then the itchies start. More benedryl, bed, and here we go again!

She has a tiny bit on her trunk – where her arm rests against her body while she’s sleeping. It’s not red, it’s just prickley looking, and it clears up about an hour after she gets up. It isn’t anywhere else, just this arm.

I’m pulling my hair out over here, help?!

***UPDATE*** It’s contact dermatits -she has a viral infection that displays itself as a rash. It would have gone away (as it was it was starting to clear up a little), doc said it can last anywhere between 7 days and 3 weeks. So, she’s on predensone and a strong steroid cream. Thank you all for your words of wisdom!! xox!!!

WOW Leanne. That is going further up her arm….
Maybe she has a bit of an infection and it’s coming out through her arm. Not unheard of. Do you have any antibiotic?
I suggest you take her to the doc. OH, HOLD ON- do you have any excima (sp) cream? Sometimes Rayne gets a rash similiar to that and the doctor told me to by this excima cream. It clears it up for a few weeks.
      Just a suggestion.

Just a thought to try… and you will think I am insane. Try Lotrimin AF on it after an hour of benedryl. See if that doesn’t clear it up and keep it away.

If she is allergic to bed mites or dust mites this could complicate the situation. Bed mites would not be killed by bleach. My son is allergic to dust mites and there is no way to steer clear of them!

Let me know if you try it and if it works!

Hey! That looks and sounds like eczema. It’s like a rash, and it can be anywhere on your body. It’s just a type of severely dry skin that gets really irritated. I’ve had it for year, and so has my brother. It’s not contagious, and it affects people differently. My brother had it really bad when he was little, and as he’s matured, it gets less and less, and he doesn’t have many problems with it now. I, on the other hand, never had it until high school, and it gets worse for me every year. There are lotions that you can use, but the really good ones that work are perscription strengths. I’d go see a dermatologist if I were you – it makes you feel absolutely MISERABLE because it itches so bad.

Looks like an allergic reaction to something. Possibly shampoo/conditioner? Hair products? Bath/body soap.
Many people develop “new” allergies to home products and environmental surroundings (including pets). I’d have her see a dermatologist or an allergist pronto.

Good luck. Btw.. love the blog design.

      Hello friend.

I wish I could help. Last time I got something like that it was poison sumac. And it stay local to my one wrist/lower arm for about 3 weeks and then it exploded up my arm and all over me in two days.

      Seek out a dermatologist.

Soaking the forearm in warm water with baking powder might help…

      I love the bird pics!

I agree with Lindsey. It looks a lot like eczema. I get it on my inner thighs but my Meme gets it on her arms. Certain weather causes mine to irritate more.

In my professional opinion, it looks like its time to see a dermatologist… :winking:

Ya might want to take her to a doc. It could be a fungus… or eczema or a reaction to a bite, or an infection…so many variables that can’t be self treated…

Now my arms are itching. I am sooooo suggestible…

It could also be an allergy. Have you tried cutting out milk products for a week, or watching out what kind of candy she eats? To minimize dust and bed mites, air out the room a few times a day – that helps too.
      good luck

Did she grab something with her hand like poison oak or ivy or sumac. It looks redder in her hand and spreads upward like it brushed on her arm too. I remember it being extremely itchy.
