Okay so I lied. This hand is related. To me, that is.
It’s the hand of someone I love, and it is hurting her.
Anyone know what this is? A fungus? Eczema?

Grooooovy.

Copper, the Little Prince.
Time for tea. He does lift his pinki when he drinks, too.

Our giant sunflowers are blooming.
That bumblebee is the size of a quarter. Okay maybe a nickel.
(Can’t a girl embellish for effect?)

He looks like a scaredy squirrel, doesn’t he?

He does look a little scaredy! I would be if I were him. Great shots!
Hmmm…is this what happens when you work your hands to the bone??? :zombie:
That hand does look painful! Oatmeal compress? Someone just told me that milk cured their eczema, so try milk?
LOVE the pics of Copper and the quarter sized bee!
That hand looks like someone put some glue on it and let it dry. :p
a trip to the doc might be in order for it though.
I’m loving that squirrel!
Ok, the hand, dunno if this will help or not, my first job I waitressed. I also had to wash the dishes and use steel wool. My hands would break out and itch and peel, similar to the photo, I tracked it down to the steel wool. So, has that hand been doing something different? Maybe something it is allergic to?
My hubby gets the same thing and it is exzema – his usually breaks out from certain kinds of cleaners. If you treat your lawn with chemicals or your plants… that could kick it. Let me know how it turns out.
I just got my internet back after an ordeal with the phone company… turns out a storm kicked the outside dsl breaker. In response to your question … it was a theft thingy but I removed it. Now it seems that something is in my files somewhere stealing all my byte space… I put in a ticket and I am hopeing they can find the space thief that is slowing down everything. 😉
That hand looks similar to something I have – it’s called dyshidrotic eczema, and it’s only found on the hands and feet. Does she have little tiny bumps that itch super bad?
I feel bad for the person with that hand! She should see a doctor…obviously. Besides exzema, or allergic reactions, try a blood test to see if her thyroid levels are in order. That looks sore! :sorry:
We have scaredy squirrels in these parts too
Okay, I’m off to check out the rest of your blog!
It looks like an excema that is a bad reaction to a chemical like bleach or chlorine. Has she/he been exposed to something harsh like that recently?
Hi Leanne! Came over looking for something on your site, and saw “the hand.” Ouch. I would guess psoriasis, which is what I have on my left foot. It’s very painful, and very difficult to deal with. What I’ve found to sooth the pain and peeling skin is using pure shea butter. The thing that I’ve learned about psoriasis though, is that different things work for different people. If it turns out to be psorasis, I have a couple of tips–send me an e-mail!
Loving Cooper…he’s really very handome..but obviously he already knows that!
Fabulous sunflower..we never see bees anymore..mostly only wasps. Too bad. Bees are really neat.
OK, we have tons, yes tons of squirrels around our area and they sit just like that on top of our fence. It’s really cute.
Leanne, yesterday I was feeding the birds in our courtyard and TWO red headed woodpeckers came up, sat on our fence and starting eating the grape nuts we put out. It was a beautiful, beautiful sight. Of course when I went outside with my camera, they ‘hit the road’. Boo Hoo.
ouch, that hand!
looks like eczema.
my oldest daughter has shingles on her hand right now, of all places, which is caused by stress and if we had left it without seeing a doctor and getting medication, i’m pretty sure i would look like that.
Doctor, doctor, doctor for the hand. Do not pass go, do not collect $200. Really is better to be safe than sorry on this one. As a nurse, I could say, “I think it’s x,y, or z,” but I’m not a doctor and I’m not allowed to diagnose. Nor would I want to and end up being wrong.
All the other photos are wonderful!
looks like a picture of my hands. had this for about 4 years. dermatologists say it’s some kind of dermitis. nothing they perscribed got rid of it. been taking apple cider vinegar, it’s just about gone! check out acv, helps a whole lot of other ailments too.
FYI – I received this info from Mark regarding the way he takes Apple Cider Vinegar.
Could be caused by chemicals leaching out of plastic.
I had a similar looking issue after. After finding a similar hand picture on a British Web describing something that typically afflicts people working in the plastic industries after exposure cretin chemicals used in its manufacture. I work in the computer industry for many years, after seeing the article on the plastic issue I took note that the mouse I was using was over 10years old the rubber wheel on it would get tacky. I used to think was oils from my hand, it but turns out it was more liking chemicals leaking out of the vinyl compound used to make it rubber like. Long story short, I have replaced the mouse and my skin has gotten much better, although not perfect. And from time to time when I have work on some old pc in a company back room some where and use a super sticky / tacky mouse with out thinking my skin quickly reverts back to a very bad state.
I have the exact same looking condition on my hands that started on one finger with a very stressful job 2 years ago and went away after i quit, I blamed it on the gym I was working out in wiping down the equipment with harsh bleach based “stuff”
I’m now at another job next door to the old one and again it started with one finger but then after 3 months spread to both hands mostly around side joint areas.
I think it might be the same cleaning company wiping down the keyboards, mice and desktops but not sure … and yes this is another very stressful job .. 🙁
Went to PCP and two dermatologists, nothing has worked ( including clobetasol and stronger corticosteroids )
I’m barley able to keep it moisturized, I read someone used http://www.blissworld.com/product/code/B-S18.do and it helped allot, gonna try it
I’m a computer guy too but I don’t use a mouse pad
I’m also going to try apple cider vinegar … that will be better than quiting my job … heh … :thanku:
If the person sees a dermatologist, they can take scrapings and analyze if the person has a fungal infection of their skin…
…in which case, corticosteroids are not the answer. Anti-fungal creams or medications are!
That looks like the same condition I am dealing with right now. I have been to 3 doctors and all kinds if creams, prescription medications and finding nothing helps. It started on my thumbs and now it is on most of my fingers and starting on the palm of my hand. It is not eczema psoriasis I can tell you that. I had a culture done and it is some time of fungus. They gave me a lotion lotrimine with a steroid in it and it is not helping. Not sure what else to do.
The hand….
i have something similair and it looks like a fungus. i wouldnt ask for peoples opinions and would go to doc instead. He has to scrape and send in for testing. Only then will they know for sure.
Good luck poor hand..
I have the exact same thing on my hands. I saw the dermatologist and he said it was hand dermatitis. He gave a an rx for Vanos and it did clear it up. The only problem is that when you have the deep cracks it burns horribly. Once I cleared it up I can keep it at bay by using the cream when I feel it coming on again.
Hope this helps.
My husband has the same thing we dont kow what to do its been there since September in09 it has gotten worse when he trye gloves and an anti-fungile cream, can’t go to the doc no insurance and by everyones notes not sure it would help to much if you have advice we would love to here it we are going to try the acv tips wish all the best of luck i know it can be a long and painful thing still looking for the silver lining Pixie18428@yahoo.com
I’ve been looking for a “fix” for what might be an identical problem. Does it start with thickening of the skin that than cracks, drys flakes and than itches? Mine is on my feet as well, nasty! I have been given clobetasol 17 or “Dermol ointment” which lowers the readness, flucloxacillian to stop any infection, and a cream to try to rehydrate the skin. This appears to be helping, although my Dr is at a loss as to what it actually is. I have spent hours combing the internet for something similer to my condition and your photo is identical. Please keep in touch if you have any joy with any remadys, I will do the same. Regards
I have the exact same hand condition. I’m trying to figure out what it is right now and stumbled across your blog. I’ve been to multiple doctors and none of them have been able to diagnose it, nor care to. It goes through cycles, where it’ll seem like it’s healing, and then crack and flake all over again. It hurts. They say it’s just a skin condition and to deal with it, pretty much. I’m in OR and my neighbor has a medical marijuana card and makes cannabis salve, so I’m trying that right now. It makes it feel better anyway, and absorbs much better than skin lotion or bag balm. I’ve read that cannabis salve can help psoriasis, so i thought i’d give it a shot. Good luck!
Thanks for that Alan, unfortunatly in New Zealand we are not so liberal with MM Cards but I will try some hemp oil. One very helpfull tip I got from my Dr. was to “superglue” the cracks together to aid healing. Yup I know it sounds crazy but if you have ever had this on your hands you will know how well it sticks skin. She said she could sell me very expencive medical superglue but I was better off going to a hardware store and getting a good brand. I didn’t do it as my wife thought it :raspberries: “nuts” However frustration :brickwall: lead me to try and it really works!!! Doesn’t seem to matter if you get some in the crack just clean away loose skin, insure it’s dry and put a small drop smeared in the crack pinch it together for 2-3 minites and then if possible keep your hand still for an hour and hey presto no crack! Put another layer over the first and leave to dry. I put a smeer on each day until it heals from the inside. I have a specialist appointment in 6 weeks and I’ll update then. Please let me know if you have any further hints as I feel combined we may win against this. Regards
I had what looks to be the same thing on my hands. It started as tiny blister that itched like crazy. Then the tiny blisters would weep a clear fluid, and then go through a dry, cracking phase as pictured then the cycle repeated. Self-treatment had me running hot water over my hands to stop the itch for a few hours but the itch would just come back. I went to my personal physician who just happens to be a PA and she contributed the problem to my job. I bartended 6+ hours a day 4 days a week and my hands were consistently damp. She described, in simple terms, that I basically had athletes foot on my hands, to stop running hot water over my hands because it only helped the fungus and prescribed a powerful antifungal cream that helped immediately. My hands had a noticeable change in appearance in 24 hours and cured it in about 3 weeks. Have your friend go to the doctor and if your friend is prescribed eczema cream, have them ask the Doc why it could not be fungus and that it has to be eczema.
Hi everyone,
I had a problem with my hands too, starts over 2 years ego. I went to my regular doctor, he send me to dermatologist, i saw 2 of them , they gave me creams, ask me to put more lotion on it and that was it. No help from them at all. I find this page few weeks ago, i read about apple cider vinegar, i did buy a tablets, its faster for me on the morning. Im taking 2 tablets 3 times a day for already 2 weeks and i have to say …. i see the difference … i will continue taking them for another few weeks …. let you know if my skin return to normal condition. Good luck to everyone of you !!!!
I have eczema on other parts of my body (back, legs& ankles) also my hands look similar. Aside from moisturizing my body, it doesn’t help my hand much. it helps with certain products. It has spread to my other hand. Had it for a good year and the cracking is painful. Tonight I washed my hands with peroxide and then soap dried and put cortisone cream on as have seen a significant difference. I kinda think it’s fungal( which is blaa and hard to except, but after taking my daughter to the dermatologist about a rash on her leg that turn out to be fungal. After trying everything I could think of I decided to try peroxide and cortisone to see if it would help. I don’t normally blog or post ( not that internet savvy. ) Just typing so far I have seen a 90% improvement in my hand. My hopes are high, but don’t know if it will work for sure. So please don’t hold it against me. If anyone still reads this posting I will try to update my progress to anyone it helps. God bless everyone and my prayers are with any and all who suffer these problems. We all know it is not fun or a walk in to park
Also wanted to mention that once the cracks in my fingers come back and hurt like ouchaaa lol not really but , (because they always do) and are starting to. I will try liquid band aid to help them heal them. Wish me luck.
This picture of your hand looks like both of my hands as well as the bottoms of my feet. Have you found a cure or diagnosed the problem yet? My doctor prescribed a .05 cortisone which I have been using for 3 days and my hands are looking better. A black light shined on my hands and feet have shown a fluorescent glow. That makes me wonder if it is a fungus. Odd to have it so symmetrically though. The cracks on my feet and hands are what make this condition so difficult to take. I am hoping that you have had success ridding yourself of this condition.
This picture looks exactly like my dads hand. I happen to be searching the internet for answers as to what it may be and came across this and was very surprised. My dad has had this condition for four to five years and has been to MANY doctors and dermatologists about it and they have yet to come up with anything. We know it is not eczema or psoriasis or a bunch of other skin problems. I believe it may be fungal. But either way it drives him crazy and is very painful and I just want to help him out. I am very interested in the ACV solution. So I would like to know where you can buy these tablets? And what they are called? Thank you guys so much for your help!
I have the exact same thing on my hand as well, and it is fungal. I’ve had it for 10 years, and been to several dermatologists, who have all said eczema, and given me steroid creams, etc. At my wit’s end, I visited a TCM practiotner who took one look at it and said, “oh, that’s a fungus.” He gave me internal herbs and a cream, and the secret weapon was an herbal soak for my hand. It was wickedly strong. It ALMOST cleared it up. It was clearer than it’s been in 10 years, so I know he was right. Unfortunately, not all of it was eradicated, so it’s back. I need to go in for another visit, but would love to see other cures.
I’ve had closed to the same thing on both of my hands back in August. Saw the doc and he gave me the typical creams. After about 5 days i stopped using the creams, and tried the vinegar treatment. I don’t know what did it but 5 days later my hands were like new. Unfortunately, it seems that the condition is coming back and this time I will be document my treatment for it!
Hand looks exactly like mine. Definitely hand eczema. Nothing works. I’ve tried two General practitioners, a dermatologist, and an allergist with the countless potions and lotions they prescribe. Nothing works. NOTHING!
I have this on both of my hands, i am not sure what it is but i think it is a fungus. I have been dealing with it for about 4 years. It started out on one side of my finger and quickly spread to the other fingers and my palms. It has been so bad at times that I can’t even get dressed because my hands hurt so bad from the cracking. At time i can’t make a fist because i can’t bend my fingers. I have tried numerous thins to try and clear it up but to no avail. About a year ago my wife brought home a bottle of DERMAREST it is medicated skin treatment that is over the counter. I apply it 3 to 4 times daily, it gets below the top skin layers to soften up the the thick parts before they crack, I also use a pumice stone to get the flakes of skin off and keep the thick skin from getting to the point of cracking. Since i started doing this it has gotten better but is still there just with less cracking. Not sure if there is a cure for it but hopefully this might help some of you who have this.
I have this too, not as bad as the picture but really bad on my finger tips. They start to flake then crack and bleed, it is very painful but most of all embarrassing. My doctor seems like everyone elses on here, not interested really, although on my last visit i was prescribed DiproSalic ointment which did totally clear it up after applying it regularly for a couple of weeks, unfortunatly it did return about 6 weeks later so hey ho here we go again. I have had this problem for 6 years now and although I think it may have been stress related at first I don’t believe so any longer as I have been virtually stress free for years. I have never had any skin problems at all but I remember it did seem to start at a time when I cut down some leylandii trees and got my hands covered in sap, wonder if anyone can figure out what could have caused their flare-up, and has anyone found a CURE? :brickwall:
My father has this same skin problem on both his hands and feet. I’ve been doing quite a bit of research on it and a lot of sites lead me to think it could be connected to thyroid problems. My father had thyroid cancer and had his removed and this skin irritation began after that. Do any of you with the same problem have any history of thyroid problems?
Just wondering- did you ever find out what is wrong with her hand? I have the exact same thing on my hand.
Dermatologist told me it was just… ugh, I forget the name- but that it was just irritated and would go away, gave me a moisturizing cream.
Well, I’ve been putting the cream on a few weeks, it’s barely helped, and now its spreading and I’m starting to get lots of blisters, like this:
http://dermimages.med.jhmi.edu/images/Eczema_dyshidrosis_4_030619.jpg
So… please respond and let me know if you found out 🙂 I’m seeing another derm next week, but it is driving me CRAZY!
Regarding the hand……I am suffering from similer problem for almost 10 years……..now it is in my fingers but it looks scary enough to reach to my palms…….first I used desonide lotion…..it gave relief for sometime then it came back……then I applied halovet (harbasol propionate) it works for sometime like if I apply continiously I will get relief but when I stop it will come back within a month or two………..I am eager to try ACV solution lets c what happens……….
hey.
use vaseline and dermatological gloves (that dont absorb all the vaseline at night) this will definately help.
also special soap and body wash that doesnt contain ‘soap’ ie something from the body shop etc. and wash your hands with the soap not the fancy gels which strip the oils further. some soaps are called oilatum or e45 soap.
im still trying to work out what has caused this on my husband but ive been researching it for years and i know what has worked and made a difference. also avoid cleaning! no more soap based cleaners, detergents etc for you….or buy gloves! let me know how you get on.
lube up with vaseline everynight. the gloves arent great but you can cut the finger tips off so you can still use the ipad, read books etc.
my doctor said it was pompholyx. He prescribed me Dermol which is antimicrobial emollient and Ecolon for night. Either do anything.
Looks like a fungal infection to me. Had something similar, Terbinafine Hydrochloride tablets worked for me, talk to your doctor. good luck
Just read through all other comments, doctors have a tendency to diagnose any skin-related problem as dermititis, dont accept this. The above really looks fungal to me, and dont mess about with herbal or acv treatments, get the proper medicinal tanlets from doc!
Did any of you have this start after a cut? I cut my finger ripping open the plastic off bottles of water. Ever since that cut my finger has had this same issue as all of you. I am wondering about the plastics connection. Mine is mostly on the same finger but has spread a bit. My doc said dry skin just moisturize. Pretty frustrating.
at any time do these hands develop any little blisters?http://intricateart.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_sad.gif
My husband suffers from this except his hands look far worse than this picture. His palms are currently so bad the skin thickens, skin flakes and he has deep cracks on the thickest parts. He is constantly in pain. I took him to our family doctor and she determined it was fungal, after he was told for years it was psoriasis. She prescribed lamisil and over the counter antifugal ointment such as tinactin. It cleared him up for a few years. However now it is back and after a month on lamisil nothing is helping this time. just a side note: anything with steriods will make it worse…
Any suggestions? I need more info on the apple cider vinegar treatment. Thank you
Thank you for everyone who keeps posting comments. I have a doctors appointment tomorrow so i am going to ask him to give me Terbinafine Hydrochloride as i am 99% sure it is fungal. I now have a fungal infection in my groin, arm pits, scalp, behind my ear and back due to this. They have been and gone, and whilst using the creams/tablets, my hands drastically improved.
I shall let you all know!
also to answer you steve, i get what can only be described as a a mountain range of tiny lumps appear on the hands. They are itchy but NEVER leak or puss, hence why i believe them not to be blisters and that this is not pompholyx.
It is called palmo planter Psoriasis. Go for Photo theraphy (Ultra Violate Ray). Use Cylicilic Acid and moistureriser cream. But it is temprorary solution. Go for homoeopathy treatment it take time but cure it.
Sorry, comments are now closed.
