On September 21st of 2004, Mark was on his way home for his 2 weeks leave. I heard news of an explosion on the road that connects the airport to Baghdad, and had an eerie feeling that it was part of his unit.
Four of our guys were injured that day (someone correct me if I’m wrong on that one), one of them being SPC Dusty Hill. Dusty was flown home shortly after sustaining major burns, lost his right eye and both hands.
Last week, Dusty was part of a CNN special and I was in tears when I saw him being interviewed. He’s a positive force indeed. I think that when the guys come home I may have the opportunity to meet him, and I’m sure I’ll be getting in line behind many who want to give him a big hug for his sacrifices.
I just found this page about him on the Army website, a photo taken after he received his Purple Heart.
He’s been in our prayers and thoughts throughout his recovery, just wanted you all to know about him too.

last night on the news they were talking about a local guy here who was killed over in iraq within the past few weeks, he scheduled to come home (for good) in March. 🙁
