It’s not a Goldfinch – not a Song Sparrow, it’s a Pine Siskin! Thanks to Taba for helping me identify this bird that landed on my feeder yesterday and was NOT afraid of me one little bit. He enjoyed my thistle feeder for quite a while, and allowed me to fill up my other feeders in very close proximity while he ate.
He had me confused for sure – I knew it couldn’t be a female Goldfinch because of the speckled breast. Couldn’t be a Song Sparrow because of the yellow feathering. Then… what??? This sweet little Pine Siskin is a new bird to my feeders and I’m delighted to have him.
Enjoy!!

Leanne,
What a beautiful creature! Seems to me that you may have a new “regular” customer at your feeders. Thank you for the amazing picture.
He’s gorgeous!!!!
The kids and I started our day watching some fledgling house sparrows hopping around on the deck railing this morning, gearing up for the big flight, and finished the day watching our very first hummingbird visitor zip around the backyard!!! It might be rainy and grey and dreary, but we have our bright spots!!
Becky – when I stood at my studio windows yesterday afternoon a hummingbird was zipping past – he saw me, stopped in mid air and hovered, looking at me for a few seconds.
It didn’t take me more than an hour to get to the store and buy another hummy feeder for outside my studio windows!
How precious is he! :yahoo:
He’s cute! You’re obviously a fine friend to those feathered ones.
What a dapper little fellow! I am so envious you have birds like this in your yard! I’m thrilled when I see a cardinal on the rare occasion. Plus, as an artist you must love to get shots like this!
Steph – yes, I do love getting shots like that! I keep thinking I’m going to paint them all – haha, I just need to plant more shrubs to get them in a more natural setting for a painting! There’s always somethin’. 😉
There are no colors or patterns like those nature produce. He, or she is beautiful.
Great shot. What optic (zoom) and camera are you using these days?
[…] Sunday morning, I wandered out to my studio to have a peek out at my bird feeders, and I got the privilege of witnessing the most beautiful relationship between a pair of Pine Siskins (who are, as many of you know, new guests on my feeders). […]
