Mon, 13 Jul 2009 13:01:19 +0000http://intricateart.com/?p=4476#comment-27397[…] Last week’s winner was Lesley with her new puppy, Floss. I could not resist this sweet little puppy-in-a-pot, she is just darling! Floss reminded me of those puppy days, before your puppy love evolves into a deep, endearing, steadfast love between a human and their dog that trusts and is always dependable. Aah, the love of a dog – no one should live without it!! […]

Fri, 10 Jul 2009 11:41:06 +0000http://intricateart.com/?p=4476#comment-27345It was twelve years ago April that we adopted Samson from a dog rescue league. For twelve years he was an energetic, rambunctious, fun-loving dog. He gave us all he had, and we returned it with love. With the exception of when he tried to eat a cigar, he was healthy every day of his life until early March of this year. That was when we learned that he had multiple tumors in his abdomen, and there was evidence that they had spread to his heart. One of the tumors was bleeding internally, and he was clearly struggling to live. It was with our own heavy hearts that we had him put to sleep. I was in with him, petting him, re-assuring him until (and past) the end.
We have countless fond memories of him, walking at Lake Accotink (here in Springfield, VA), running along the beach in Maine in winter, trips to the dog park, stretched out on (and taking up most of) the couch, and lots and lots of snuggling. He has forever found a place in our hearts.
I will email the photo of Sam to the gallery.

Thu, 09 Jul 2009 16:55:50 +0000http://intricateart.com/?p=4476#comment-27321Leanne, I know I’ve won before but wanted to share my photo of Annie. The photo is on the right hand side towards the bottom on the blog page. She’s my red tri miniature Australian Shepherd. This photo is Annie at 10 weeks old. She is my constant companion and my ranch helper. She comes out to feed with me twice daily and her job is to keep any of the critters from “gettin’ jiggy”. If the horses or the llamas start getting pushy or “jiggy” Annie rushes up to them barking until they stop doing whatever it is that makes me or Annie upset. She loves to break up fights between the adult male llamas. These dogs have to have a job or they go crazy. So Annie’s job is “The Enforcer” – she enforces the “no gettin’ jiggy” rules I have in place!

Thu, 09 Jul 2009 16:22:45 +0000http://intricateart.com/?p=4476#comment-27318My baby’s name was Babygirl. She was a stray that came up to our house. My dad said we couldn’t have any more animals. I would feed her and she would stand up on her back legs and beg. He thought she might be someone’s dog but she stuck around for several days. She wouldn’t let you get too close because she was afraid of everything. One night it was raining and I opened my back door and found her sitting there. She was cold, wet, and muddy. I sat down at the door and she came running and crawled up in my lap. She curled right up like a cat and almost immediately went to sleep. It was at that moment I lost my heart. Mom and I snuck her in and gave her a warm bath. Daddy didn’t fuss too much about bringing her in but he was still adament that we didn’t need another dog. I didn’t name her at first because we wanted to call around and make sure she didn’t belong to anyone. During this time I’d say things like “Come ere baby girl..” Once they decided we could keep her, the name Babygirl had stuck.
I have had a lot of dogs in my life but none touched my heart quite like her. I guess because she was completely mine. She stayed in my apartment at my parents for months until she made friends with our other dogs. And talk about personality. Boy did she have a personality! When I get ready in the mornings to leave for work/class she would follow me around and sit under my feet and pout. She was in the window when I left and back there when I got home. I could go on and on about her. She was like my kid. Unfortunately, she is no longer with us. She got sick in Feb/March of 2008. After going back and forth to the vet and having two blood transfusions, we were told she had a bone marrow disease and was no longer able to produce blood. I made the difficult decision to have her put to sleep because she had already been through so much and her survival rate was extremely low even with chemo and treatment. I still miss her but I am very thankful for the time I had her. I also told her she was my angel and that the Lord had sent her to my house. She helped me through some difficult and lonely times and I am grateful for that. 🙂

I’d love to enter the photo of Floss that’s on my blog here She’s only 8 weeks old and it would be lovely to have a special drawing of her to remind us of this precious time because I’m sure she’ll be much bigger in even just a month! I have another photo of her in the plant pot which is a bit sharper and just as cute (I didn’t use it on my blog because you can just see our address details on her id tag). I’d be more than happy to email it to you if you choose her x
