Her pose, thoughtful and a bit hidden, reached out and touched my heart on a rainy and chilly afternoon. You can read about how Mellisa rescued (and bought a home especially for Nana!) here. […]

I miss her very much. I started handling Pippin when she was just a bald, pink, 2-week-old chick, and she’s been my constant companion for the last 6 1/2 years. This picture shows Pippin on her favorite toy, and she just looks so happy. I think she’s smiling.

If this link doesn’t work well, please go to stephs-mundane-musings.blogspot.com and see the picture of Pippin perched on the ball with the corn husks.

We had Mackie for several years before our daughter was born and he was a wonderful dog, full of energy, loved to fetch, and jump and run. My husband loved this dog! When our daughter came along she loved Mackie too, a little too much. One day when she was about 2 she grabbed his ears before I could stop her and he bit her, on her little face. As much as I cared for the dog he had to go, I couldn’t trust him anymore. While hubby did agree that the dog had to go, he’s never really gotten over loosing Mackie. It’s been 3 years and we still talk about “the old Mackie”. We call him the old Mackie b/c he’s was replaced by a chocolate lab 2 years ago and given the task of naming the dog our daughter named her Mackie.

He is always, always there for us. We held Mo-Jo in our arms when he was only three weeks old. This little guy has grown and matured into a beautiful, happy, and confident German shepherd. He has touched our lives forever!

Unfortunately Nana, being the serious soul that she is most of the time, does not tolerate what she considers the indignity of being costumed! The bunny ear photo I have of her is of one seriously ticked off dog!

Here is my favorite photo of her being thoughtful, likely pondering why people put bunny ears (and reindeer antlers) on their dogs: http://www.flickr.com/photos/40795107@N00/11701664/

Nana came to us through chance (or fate) when the people who adopted her as a puppy (importing her from a Hungarian breeder of all things) divorced and no longer had time for her. Long story short, she ended up at the home of their friends who took wonderful care of her for a year. Through a chance encounter we became acquainted and our love of Golden Retrievers was mentioned. Next thing I knew, we were looking for a new place to live that would allow dogs! We moved on a Friday and drove from San Diego to L.A. to pick her up on the Saturday morning. That was 4 years ago and because of that “dog friendly” housing move we now live in a neighborhood we love and had never considered before her!
