1. I am more of an art appreciator than artist actually. Connoiseur? Nah, I’ll am with the annoying phrase we artists don’t like to hear from buyers: “I just know what I like.”::good:

2. I don’t like buying prints, they are a waste of my money. I buy art because I like to “see” the artist. In fact, I tend to by textured art because of this. But from the artist POV, I like prints because people buy them :duh:

3. A painting is anything that used to be wet heh:sorry: RRAAAADDDDDD!!!!:yahoo:

1. I appreciate art, but have never studied it, so my appreciation is mostly on a simple beauty level. However, I can appreciate the talent behind a piece of artwork even if I don’t personally find it beautiful or interesting.

2. A wide variety of places. On my walls you’ll find an oil painting by my dad; our wedding picture cross-stitched by my mother-in-law; a framed print from a print/poster store; a large painted asian fan my husband found at a mall kiosk. I would love to purchase more original art, but for now I appreciate the art my family creates the most.

3.Definitely. Again, I have no formal training in art, but I would agree with what others above have written.

4. Well, since I’ve never painted myself – at least not since finger paints were an acceptable medium – I guess my first thought is a bit romantic and unrealistic. I picture a lovely woman in a sunny room wearing a cotton shirt and a gauzy peasant skirt, with her hair pulled up in a scarf to keep it out of the paint. She sits on a stool, dreamily painting ethereal strokes across the canvas.

1. I am simply an appreciator of art. Not knowledgeable enough to be a connoisseur.
2. Shamefully, Target or Bed, Bath, Beyond
3. Absolutely, one evokes an appreciation of the quality, workmanship and artistic value of the piece. Not to mention, it affects the pocketbook too.
4. I think of painting as a process in creation, (one quite mysterious to myself I might add).

1. Connoisseur or Appreciator: I’m too ignorant to be a connoisseur so that would only leave ‘Appreciator’. However, my ignorance limits my abilities to be a complete Appreciator in the full sense of the word, but I’m getting better at it. Especially when I try to replicate something that I’ve seen others do… even the easy looking things takes talent and skill. I become more appreciative.

2. Place of purchasing: when I was younger the things on my walls would be poster type things from ‘regular’ stores. Right now its just my paintings, finished and unfinished (lack of storage). I need to start saving my drachmas so I can purchase something from artists. With all the art walks and art fairs its putting the art closer at hand, which is great. (Not to mention ebay bringing it right into your home.)

3. Difference between painting/picture; print/original: Yes. First, they are all spelled differently. 😉 A painting is an expressive original work of art by a human. A picture is a photograph…or mass produced reproductions. A print is a professional reproduction of an original work of art where color is as close as it can get to the original. And ‘original’ is the one of a kind original work of art containing the blood, sweat, and tears of the artist.

4. Term “painting”: An original work of art usually created on canvas or watercolor paper, but is not limited to these (I’m thinking of murals and paintings done on glass, etc.). The “process” would be a human applying paint to something in an attempt to express themselves. Yet we have elephants, monkeys, and dogs making paintings now. I don’t consider art made on a pc as a painting.

1. Appreciator, with just a smidgen of Connoisseur. I adore art! (almost) everything is art.

2. Besides originals that were gifts, I have some purchased things, fairly cheap things, those are mostly from Harley-Davidson, ha-ha!

3. painting = made with paints
picture = could be any image, but to me, technically it would be a photo.
print = a copy of an original
original = the actual piece the artist created with his own hands.

4. anything from the lonely, tortured artist in the turret to Jackson Pollack throwing entire cans of paint all over a canvas.

Ah I can give better answers for this one:

1. I’m an Appreciator

2. Direct from the artist these days

3. To me Painting is the application of paint to something to produce an image. A Picture is an image rendered in any medium. A Print is a copy of and original and an Original is exactly what is says on the tin.

4. Some poor struggling artist in a stuffy turret somewhere, applying paint (of somesort) to a canvas (of somesort) wearing shabby paint-spattered clothes and a tortured expression.

Romantic, me? Why yes, how did you guess 🙂

-I appreciate art. I think about art every day. When I look at my kids, step outside, come to your website :wink:. I feel that art is all over and it’s not something you can really ignore.

-Even though I know the difference,I use the word “painting” so loosly. I suppose that may seem nieve, but really it’s just me being lazy! 😥 Painting to me would be- paint brush, colors, and something to paint on. Whatever it may be.
