As long as they don’t come in my house, bees are fine by me. 😀 Plus I LOVE honey!
Not such a big fan of wasps though….
Anyone know what wasps actually do? Do they have a “job” in the natural environment? ~feels a bit dumb~
Apart from sting and buzz about my face I mean… lol

Fri, 04 Apr 2008 15:50:07 +0000http://intricateart.com/blog/help-the-honey-bees/#comment-13036I know when we first moved in here we used to have loads of bees but the number has decreased significantly over the years. Last year we had a huge problem with yellow jackets! They seem to be taking over!
I’ll be planting more bee friendly plants in my yard this year, cuz they’re good for my apple & cherry trees. I hope we can bring them back…would much rather have a bee hive than yellow jackets…I don’t know how or why but the yellow jackets keep getting into my basement! I’ve been stung twice by picking up something and one of those critters was hiding underneat it. OUCH!

Fri, 04 Apr 2008 14:23:26 +0000http://intricateart.com/blog/help-the-honey-bees/#comment-13035A few years ago in NC whole beekeeping packages were given away to try and help this problem. By the time I found out about them it was too late. I know in my area I hardly ever see a honey bee. It seems like someone got stung by one every other day when I was youg and we all went barefoot in the summer.

Fri, 04 Apr 2008 14:17:05 +0000http://intricateart.com/blog/help-the-honey-bees/#comment-13034Sure I’ll help the bees! Most of them live in my back yard during the warm season, which, in Florida, is 10 months of the year. 😉
Trust me, when you plant for the butterflies, in come the bees!
Awhile ago, I saw a show on the Discovery Channel (I think it was the Disc Channel), about the bee population that is disappearing in New England, and how that was affecting the cranberry crops out there, and also how it was affecting production of other crops as well. It’s a serious problem!
Thanks for the link!
