The first time I ever noticed a hummingbird (in real life) was last year. The family was at the coast and the rental house had a lovely garden designed to attract the birds. One morning I was standing on the porch having a smoke (gasp) and something caught my eye. It took a few seconds for me to focus in on the hummingbird. It was at eye level about three feet away… and it stayed in one spot until my brain could process what I was looking at. “HEY! Its a hummingbird…how kewl!!” Then it took off.
It felt like the Universe had given me a little gift. It was like the bird was making a point of “look at me…don’t you see me!”
As old as I am that was the first time I actually got to see one ‘up close and personal’.
