Glad to hear it’s not one of your designs.

Maybe it’s due to ignorance but they have to know that it’s wrong. Otherwise, why would anybody pay to have their themes done?

I wondering what I am going to do should my pictures show up other places.

It is just wrong. The internet is about sharing not stealing. And, many people forget that.

I can understand the frustration and sense of violation.

I’ve always used free templates, but learned a lot about tweaking them from looking at style sheets… as well as many other resources, such as Mandarin design, W3C, etc… there’s no reason to steal, IMO.

More people need to talk about it, and link to the laws involved. It blows my mind that people really don’t know what copyrights are, what it means, or what the ramifications are for copying and pasting someone else’s work.

I’ve been down this road before too, and it’s not pleasant. Hard work, education and talent should be rewarded with cash, advertising and/or credit, not theft.

It doesn’t say much about that person, but if everyone knew they stole a design for their own, it would certainly tell a lot. There are certainly enough “free” graphics and the like to come up with something even if you are not a very creative person so there is no excuse. If I wanted some info type thing or wanted to display somiething on my site that wasn’t mine, I would certainly ask the author if I could before I did so. If I were to author something and someone asked me this courtesy, I would probably be flattered and and say okay as long as certain rules were in place depending on the situation. People are just not very considerate these days and it is those people who will ruin things that might otherwise be posted for a lot of people to enjoy, respectfully. Lastly, what makes this even worse is that a lot of people are just trying to make a living or some extra cash by creating things on their sites and displaying them, etc. and when someone infringes upon that, well, it is like you said in so many words, breaking into their home and stealing. Stealing is stealing no matter how you sugar coat it. Thanks for a good post Leanne.

There’s really no grey area there.

I have put out several free themes – so my styles and techniques are available for public consumption. I enjoy sharing some of my stulff under a GPL… it make me feel all warm and cozy and part of something cool.

Other pieces of my work are not so free and easy and aren’t available for mass consumption and I label those works pretty clearly so there’s no mistake about what’s what.

Reality is – there are just some folks who will take it, no matter what. Those folks usually learn the hard lesson of their actions and hopefully get themselves back on the straight and narrow – – it just usually takes something like this for them to say “Oops – you’re right”

For people who never have that ‘Oops’ moment? I have zero time and tolerance.

Don’t hate me cuz I’m gorgeous
