Taylor has finished 6th grade with only one B (not on the report card, only one B on one assignment). She finishes with a 4.0. Pretty cool, but I worry about what will happen when she really has to work for it. Garrett is already working hard for it, and although his results come a little slower they are just as sweet. Isn’t it fun to see them grow and accomplish so much? Kudos to you too mom, or they wouldn’t be where they are! Give them both hugs for me. Love your garden, I want a fresh salad now! Hope Mark is on the mend. Hugs, clara

Love the garden! It’s ironic, considering my upbringing, but I kill everything pretty much on sight. :acorn:

When you thin your plants, think about how big that plant will get and just thin to allow enough room between plants so the leaves will only barely touch when mature. (If you don’t know how big they will get, check your seed packets or a good gardening book.) Also, if some plants look weaker than others, try to leave the stronger looking ones (not necessarily the tallest – it’s more important for a good healthy plant to be full than tall).

You can pretty much thin them at any time after they’ve germinated. Just be really careful not to disturb the roots of the plants you’re not pulling. Some of veggie gardening is very similar to flower gardening, and I know you’re good at that from the pictures you’ve posted of your beautiful flowers! :greenthumb:

Enjoy your garden! Hubby and I got mine tilled up today and I planted one row before it started to pour. So the sunflowers got a good soaking but I’ve got a bunch of stuff to plant still. Tomorrow is going to be a busy day! :gardener:

I just got mine planted last Saturday (when I threw my back out) and of course nothing is germinated yet…well except for the two pumpkin plants that I pulled because they were from my compost heap and right in the middle of the garden. A friend of mine told me that 1) I planted too early for here and 2) our growing season is too short to start tomatoes from seed…must start indoors or buy plants…so I went and bought some plants. Planted the tomatoes yesterday.

Another friend gave me some of her spinach (I don’t know how she gets those plants to survive our winter!) I made some yummy creamed spinach. reminder to me, creamed spinach is only good on the first day. LOL!

I went grocery shopping yesterday and stocked up on some of the memorial day specials.

And then I went and cleaned my rabbit’s pen. After doing that I’ve decided that I should clean the pen each time we empty a food bag. I had let it go for a while and carrying all that bunny poo got too heavy! (they have two litterboxes!) It doesn’t help that they add to the mess by shredding phonebooks & cardboard boxes. Hummm maybe I should talk DH into just letting the rabbits shread all the mail we get with our address on it. He doesn’t like to throw anything with our address on it out for fear of ID theft. I think he’s going a bit overboard.

And that’s it so far. We’re going to Church here soon. So I should go get ready.
