  • A Dozen Roses, Plus One

I’ve got a very special project going on, and your input is very much appreciated. I’ve selected two roses and photographed them this morning for a painting. These photos are completely unaltered, so I anticipate some modifications (deepening the petals, highlights, removing excess leaves) so please disregard any distractions in the images, as I’ll make those repairs later on. The background coloring is also important. I’ve selected two colors, each have a different and dramatic effect and will ultimately effect the mood of the painting.

Please select the rose that you would like to receive, the perfect rose for you. I’d also like to know why it appeals to you, if you don’t mind sharing.

Ready to stop and smell the roses?

    Row One – 1 & 2

    Row Two – 3 & 4

    Row Three – 5 & 6

    Row Four – 7 & 8

    Row Five – 9 & 10

    Row Six – 11 & 12

    Row Seven, #13

    From one of my feedreaders:

“I like the background of row 3 #6 but I like the rose row 2 #3 and row 1 #1
I like those roses because they are just open. I prefer them before they are totally open – they seem to be keeping a little secret something for themselves… “

I like row 1 – #1. For some reason it seems a little vulnerable to me. Kind of facing me, kind of looking away.

My fav is number 6. It is ready to open and spread it leaves… so still vulnerable, but not perfect and so it makes it the more beautiful. The background is not hard on the eyes and so you can see the rose better. Stem slightly slanted… using the whole picture, but not over-filling it. Add a raindrop or two to the leaves… and you have a perfect picture.

I personally like #’s 2 and 3 . . . an open rose has sooo many meanings spiritually and in literature. Roses are my favorite flowers, and my favorite part about getting roses is seeing what will happen when they open. I also like the more purple-y background color – it makes the rose stand out more, and just enhances the already beautiful color! Great pics!!

Row 2 #4 is my favorite. I like it the best because I love the look of a rose that is closed but partially open. Tilted to the side a bit and the leaves surround the bottom just right!! :D

ya know? I’m not a rose fan. What? Are those crickets chirping? Seriously, paint me a big honkin’ white Peony and I might have more to say. Anyway, they all look nice to me although I like the orangey toned background better. Sorry!

Hey Leanne, I like #’s 1 and 5. I like the view of the fuller (1) rose from the side more than head on and that one looks more romantic. I also like #5 because it is not fully opened and I like it a little more crooket like it is than the others, not so straight up and ridgid. so pretty ;)

I like row 1, and I’ll tell you why. I like that the rose is open just the right amount. And that the first image is a side view, but you can still see the petals fanning out.

Row 2, #3. Why? Hmm. I like the way the rose is posed, and how it’s all the way opened. It makes me feel like I can reach over and smell it (and wish my husband would bring me one home today. LOL). The background really compliments it. :lovestruck:

Ok, after much deliberation: I don’t like the roses w. the closed buds. I like row one the best. And, I think it is only because I find those backgrounds more appealing.

    Hope that helps.

Took me awhile but I”m going for it. Row 3, #5.

However, I also like the sunset background on row 5… Thisis driveing me nuts! I’ve always liked partly opened roses just as much as the fully opened ones. They hold so much promise…
