13 People I love and why I love them.
disclaimer: I love you, too, I’m just limited to 13 today.
another disclaimer: In no particular order…
    1. Raehan. Raehan makes me think about the things that are important in life. Her writing is (slowly) opening my eyes and teaching me to appreciate more. Her friendship is kind and warm and it feels like I’ve known her a hundred years.

    2. Taba. I’ve known Taba for years, and she’s like a sister to me. She and I “get” eachother, our wierdness and oddities combined make for wonderfully hilarious conversations that leave me with lingering giggles and smiles.

    3. Nancy. Nancy is sweet, and kind, and what I love about her most is her intuitiveness.

    4. MommaK. She’s hilarious and tender, so loving and such a fiercely loyal friend, all combined I count myself fortunate to have met her.

    5. Lisa. Lisa is one smart cookie, and more often than not, she shows me that there’s always more than one way to view any given situation. She’s a wonderful friend and I’m glad to be counted among hers.

    6. Jacque doesn’t have a blog, if she did she’d never write in it anyway. She’s a busy mom and always makes time for everyone. She’s a sweet, faithful friend and I’m grateful that she dragged me kicking and screaming down to her church, because if she hadn’t, my family and heart might not have opened up to a church again.

    7. Robin. When I think about Robin, I think “THERE’S a real friend.” I love her for that, and I love her for being as open as she is, for trusting and sharing.

    8. Paige doesn’t blog either, but I wish she would. She has to be the one person in this lifetime that understands me so well she knows my thoughts sometimes before I even pin ’em down. I’ve known her for over 20 years, though – she trumps my hubby. She’s a beautiful soul who has only grown more beautiful with each passing year. I’ve never known anyone so thoughtful, honestly. Everyone who knows her loves her, as well they should.

    9. Clara (who just started a photoblog because I made her do it). I’ve known Clara for several years, and I have brain envy. Her cranium is packed to the rim, she’s like a walking encyclopedia. I love her for her brains, I admire her ability to be tactfully yet brutally honest, I love her calm, fearless approach to everything. She’s just an amazing human being, with a camera.

    10. Shizzlin’ Lisa. I know bloggers hold back, that’s the common sense in all of us. But this chick, she doesn’t seem to hold back, and I love her for that. She just puts it all out there, real and raw and so well written.

    11. Erikie is my very good long time artsy friend. She inspires me, she motivates me, and I adore her tenacity. She loves her life even on her worst days, and she is always positive – in any given situation. She’s amazing and her spirit is just so full of light and love. I adore her.

    12. Tommi, my sister, is a wonderful, kind, loving, nurturing, compassionate human being. I’m so lucky to be able to call her my sister and friend. (She could be a little more brave.)

    13. Ladybug, Colleen, Phoenix, Mrs. Fun, Terrilynn, Chickadee, Pamibe, Better Safe Than Sorry, Lolo, D, Sue, Ocean, Laura, YellowRose, Used*to*be*me AND T.Bird. I just had to get in as many of the bloggers that I’ve met who have had such a tremendous impact on my blogging experience and daily life. I appreciate all of their friendships and each of them have such a unique way about them that they’ve become part of my “people I think about and hope everything is perfect in their lives” daily routine. There are more of you, indeed, but I ran out of CoQ10 and my mental acquity isn’t up to par.

While I was waiting for paint to dry, I finished up the new Thursday Thirteen Forum , so if you’re a Thirteener, you can stop in and register for the new hangout. Cool, eh?

I also shopped for two little princesses yesterday so they could be prettiful for their piano recital lastnight. I’d post pics, but all I have are videos, and they’re lopsided. Anyone know how to rotate a video? (Anyone else want to whomp me in the head the next time I try to capture video lopsided?) You’ll have to trust me when I say my children are brilliant piano players, and you’ll have to believe me when I add that not one piano student played better than my girls.

I was totally impressed by all the students, really. It was amazing to hear them all at different stages of learning how to tickle those ivories. I am also excited to see how the instructor impacts my daughters over the course of the year.

    * * * * * *
There are several of you whose addresses I must have within the next week, if you know what I’m sayin’ … (Christmas Cards. Want one?) So please drop me an e-mail with your addy, so I can do what I need to do! If you think I’m not talking about you, you’re wrong. I am. You can use my contact form, or just e-mail it to me at Leanne at mydomain dot com. Replace mydomain with my domain name. You know. hehe.

    1. As soon as I finish this, I’m on my way out in search of a pair of Levi’s. Seriously, I’ve been looking for weeks, but can’t find a pair that aren’t boot cut or flare. WHAT, pray tell, is wrong with STRAIGHT LEG? Someone please clue me in. And wish me luck. Update: found some. Boot cut. Sigh. Still – Levi’s rock. There was no squiggling, hopping or slithering involved in pulling them up. Yahoo!

    2. I’m so in the dark about hairstyles. My 13 year old neice recently did my hair for me when she was visiting, and she used a straightening iron. Does it show my age that I didn’t even know there was such a thing? Oy. Now I have one. And it’s really neat, I think. I’m still figuring it out.

    3. I picked up my photography from the museum last weekend. I said a long time ago that I’d post a pic of my peacock with the ribbon, so here it is (finally).

    4. We still have the feeders full for the birds, and I’m suprised to still see quite a few Goldfinches stopping by to eat. This couple was here for breakfast the other morning:

    goldfinch photography bird
They shed their vivid yellow for winter, but they’re still beautiful in my book.

    5. We had 5 squirrels here all at the same time this week, too. 4 black and 1 gray, the gray one likes to climb the feeder poles and eat right from the source, the rest are happy to eat leftovers on the ground. This one, with the longest fingernails I’ve ever seen on a squirrel, was munching on leaves.

    black squirrel photograph
    6. Tuckerhead (our 8 month old Wheaten Terrier) is doing well in puppy training. The day after training is always his best day because I’ve beaten him (not literally) into submission. Here he is, totally chillin’ out:

tucker soft coated wheaten terrier puppy
What is it about terriers that make them think they own the house, anyway? Maybe it’s just that I’ve got a dog now who acts just like his owner. Ahem.

    7. Have you ever gone looking for a kaleidoscope? I dare you. I thought (stupid me) that it would be an easy score, right in the kids party goods section. Right? Wrong. After stopping at 10 stores, Chickeymonkey held back big alligator tears that we couldn’t find one anywhere. The last resort (which is now going to become the first) – google. We googled kaleidoscopes, and found a specialty store online. Lucky Chickeymonkey, she now has a pshychedelic optical toy covered in monkeys.

    8. I am slowly weaning off crack, which in my case are vanilla lattes. I was up to 5 a day there for a while, now I’m down to one in the morning. Seriously, the gals at the Java Hut must have snickered when they saw me jittering and needy begging for another bottle of French Vanilla Flavoring.

    9. My studio is leaking. Again. Which means I need a new roof. Again. It’s not cheap, either. Things like this make me want to tear the whole house down and start over. Only in a new, improved location, with a really big piece of land in a warm climate.

    10. Red.

    11. I’ve been working on a forum for Thursday Thirteen (in my spare time, which is why it’s not live yet). This should be cool (she says, crossing her fingers, legs and eyes), because maybe once it’s active people will feel more a part of a community, sharing header graphics and info and things. That will be swell. I think.

    12. Waiting for layers to dry has to be the one thing that truly tests my patience as an artist.

    13. I shopped online yesterday. Imaginary shopping, I call it. I went to http://coldwatercreek.com and added all of the things I love to my shopping cart, and then proceeded to checkout, right up until you put a method of payment in there. Then I about died, because the total was UN•believably IN•sane. Thankfully, ’tis not the season to shop for myself, so I quickly emptied my cart and closed my browser window. Urge vanquished. I feel much better now.

    1. Mama always said, “if you can’t say nothin’ nice, don’t say nothin’ at all”.

    2. I could use a roll of duct tape for that, Mom.

    3. I am grieving the loss of two beautiful shade trees this week. They’ve been hacked.

    4. I do seriously wonder if that’s so “good for the trees” how trees ever managed to survive before man came along to make them “healthy”.

    5. I watched as a limb fell and a squirrel was flung to the ground – he scampered to find shelter across the street.

    6. Instead of simply apologizing (“woops, sorry ma’am” would have sufficed) for one large limb breaking the peonies that I’ve spent 5 years trying to grow, the guy spent entirely too much time telling me they grow back and I should mow them over. After he told me the “water’s just weighing them down”.

    7. By the end of next week, I hope to have an entirely different perspective – because right now I would give my last piece of Apple Pie to the first person to arrive with and help me pack up a U-Haul van. By the end of next week, I shall have solitude while I work. I am determined.

    8. I made myself THE yummiest reuben sandwich EVER for lunch today.

    9. I have my next Eye Ate It™ piece prepared, but haven’t painted it yet. Tomorrow.

    10. I didn’t know until this morning that I received three awards, not two, for my entries into the Putnam Museum Bird Photography contest. I thought that my Peacock was the only one to receive awards, but my Portrait of an Eagle also received Honorable Mention in the Eagles, Hawks & Owls category. Yay! Both of those are available in print, too.

    11. I was feeling stumped this morning and getting frustrated, so when I made my lunch, I chose a yellow plate to put my sandwich on. It cheered me up. So there you go, when you’re feeling blue, pick yellow.

    12. Today, this was going to be my 13. Just for laughs. Well, I thought it was funny. But then I thought it would offend people, so I kept typing.

    13. I’m going to get back to work now!

    1. Been busy. Very busy. I’m still trying to get into a “get it all done in 6 hours” schedule. Sorry.

    2. Why do I do this? Why do I do this? What’s in it for me? Nothing – I do this for other people. To help other people. I don’t make a dime – in fact I spend my own money to host and design and maintain it all. Why don’t people get that? Why do I do this again?

    3. Contemplating the whole blogging thing again.

    4. Contemplating the purposefullness of physical therapy. I don’t do at home what I do twice a week at therapy. I try, but honestly. I don’t do it enough to make a difference.

    5. Still contemplating.

    6. I have designs to build, this is how many I’ll be working on. (6)

    7. I love that working takes up so much time. I would rather be working, my head immersed in creative juice and code.

    8. Again, with the whole “why do I do this?”

    9. More of the contemplating.

    10. A little bit of “why do people expect everything to be handed to them on a platter”.

    11. Mixed in with a healthy dose of “why do I take things so personally.” and “why do I stress out at the drop of a dime?”

    12. A smidge of a memory of a dream, where someone I called a year ago after not hearing from them for several months and haven’t heard from since wondered why we weren’t in touch anymore.

    13. More contemplating, and I’ll continue to do that over a great big monitor full of creative juice.

    1. 14 days until school starts. Am I excited? Um, yes, I am. Does that make me a bad mom? With hubby on the road so much, I am super-mom all week. I am looking forward to “me time”. I want to paint, and my oils would dry up in the amount of time I’m diverted from the studio over the summer.

    2. My little Tuckerhead won a prize! Yes, he did. WHBF agrees that my dog is the best lookin’ dog on the planet. I sent them this photo (not the one below), and they think he’s the cutest dang dog! He won some really neat stuff that I have to go pick up. I’ll tell ya what it is later.

    3. I found out this week that there are people I know (in person) who read my blog that I didn’t know read it. You know why I don’t know? Because THEY NEVER COMMENT. Oh yes, these are people who say they care. Yep, I sure can tell. (Catch the sarcasm there?) That is my biggest peeve, if you didn’t already know that. Show up and never say a word. Yes, you know who you are. Knock that crap off – you don’t call, you don’t comment, and you sure as heck don’t stop by when you’re in the area. What do you think that I am, psychic? No, I’m not. What I am is tired of making all the effort to stay connected. It’s a draining thing, thinking that your affection isn’t mutual.

Here’s an example: My biological dad (sperm donor dude) pulled that crap with me, I was always calling him – and I gave up after a few years of calling him. That was over 10 years ago, and has he picked up the phone? Not a once. Yes, my calling him was “wanting something”, apparently. I only called him when I wanted something. You’re right, jerkhead, I wanted to know you cared. I wanted to know how you were doing. I wanted to get to know you. I’ll be sure never to do that again.

    4. On a lighter note, I took this bada$$ photo yesterday afternoon. I know, I know. Birds. Me and my birds. I love my hummies, though. When’s the last time you saw a photograph of one with his landing gear down? That’s what I thought.

    5. I have to plug it – just have to.

‘Nuff said. Please, go over and check it out, there’s a lotta good gossip goin’ on!

    6. I received word that one of my first photography print orders arrived safely and that my client is uber pleased. Nothing makes me happier than reading those kinds-a e-mails! I’m happy you’re happy, and thank you for letting me make your walls a little brighter. Here’s the print she chose:

    7. Did I mention how much I’m dying to paint? I’ve been jonesing for my brushes. Ugh. 14 days.

    8. Did I tell you my back went out again? Oy. Well, if you weren’t here for the back-capades last year, here’s the scoop. This was my back nearly a year ago to the date. This year, when Chloe passed away I had another episode where L4 and L5 decided to tell me they hate me again. My doc gave me some really great meds, and beginning in 14 days, I start physical therapy. The funny thing is that I’ve been blowing off the whole therapy thing, and they’ve been like boot camp drill sergeants. Callin me, reminding me that I need it, making me go, calling and telling me when my appointments are, calling the insurance company and setting it all up since I’ve blown it off for a month. It feels kinda good, like they really give a hoot about me and my advanced degenerative disc disease. It’s sweet, really. I wish someone would do that about my nutrition and weight goals.

    9. Speaking of weight goals, 14 days ’til restart. I have 25 Pounds2Go yet, standing still from spring when I said “It’s Summer? I don’t need no stinking diet!” I’m so proud of myself that I JUST SAID NO lastnight to the super yummy gooey chocolate cake in the fridge. I also JUST SAID NO to the yummy chocolate fudge swirl ice cream. Whew. One more year of that and I might lose a couple of pounds.

    10. I’ve been designing my fool head off this week, diggin into the code. I gave The Shizzle a total makeover, tweaked things at the World of Bloggers Cookbook, upgrading and writing smilies packages for Shelli and got The Smilly Family designed and launched. I also completed that illustration for a design that I’ll be working on and launch in the next few days. Busy busy!

    11. In my spare time, I enjoy knitting, scrapbooking, and…. (hahahhaaahahha! I crack myself up!)

    12. Girls. School. 14 days. Uniforms this year. Excellent. $142 for both kids. Lovin’ uniforms.

    13. The pool is comin’ down this weekend! It’s draining as I type. YAY for getting my yard back and not having to monitor chemicals and skim the bird droppings anymore this year!

Happy Thursday! Thanks for stopping by!

    1. I feel like a proud momma today, celebrating the 1 year anniversary of the birth of this friendship creating beast of a meme.

    2. I wonder how many people are meeting how many new people every week when I publish a new edition at the Hub. Did that make sense? I’d love to know how many good friends met because they participated.

    3. Ahh, memories. When 39 participants was considered a huge Thursday Thirteen turnout.

    4. Aww, this was the first time the code was used. Isn’t she cute?

    5. She’s all grown up now, strutting her stuff on Technorati every week, all big and Thursday Thirteeny.

    6. She got her own place a few months back, remember, and now she throws these parties every week, and I’m rarely invited. I just get to help her get ready, and clean up after everyone has left. It’s a mother’s job, you know.

    7. She has friends, too, that help do the “cool” stuff that I’m too fuddy-duddy for. These special friends help keep her head on straight now that she’s so dang “cool”.

    8. She even designed her own line of products. Because people love it, and people support the meaning behind the meme.

    9. It means so much to me to know that my nurturing her along helped people meet people, and become friends. :sniffle:

    10. Back in the day, she didn’t have a “blogroll“. She had a list of folks who joined in. Now, her list of friends is 255 bloggers strong and has been on display over 56,699 times.

    11. I can’t help but get misty eyed when I look back at the day she was born. She was so young, so naiive.

    12. I’ve made my own batch of lovely friends that I adore over the last 52 weeks. I am so thankful that people joined in, because if they hadn’t, I wouldn’t have had the privilege of getting to know them.

    13. Here’s to another 52 weeks, sweet baby girl! My how you’ve grown!

    Love,
    Mom.

    1. I really don’t like dental pain.

    2. I hate the drive to the dentist. I get sweaty palms, heart palpatations, and I’m entirely too nervous.

    3. I’m curious to know what kind of masochist thought palate injections were better than nitrous oxide.

    4. You know you’re getting old when you have m-w.com open to check spelling, and need to check all three of the “hard” words in #3. Doh.

    5. When the assistant said “do you have any of the bitter taste left in your mouth?” I replied “Nope, just the memories…”

    6. That would have been funnier if you had a nitrous oxide mask on right now.

    7. My biggest fear yesterday was choking on my own tongue.

    8. My second biggest fear was snapping one of the files off in my canals when they left me alone for a half hour to develop films.

    9. Did I mention I had a root canal done yesterday?

    10. My head doesn’t hurt at all today.

    11. Now that I’m not distracted or on pain pills, I can feel the back pain again.

    12. I hate that Dentists charge $770 an hour. Really. Isn’t that a bit pricey for an hourly wage? Okay, overhead. $50. Get real, you’re valuable, but you’re not more important than a physician, mister. Yesterday I needed you, and today, you’re going to take 2 weeks wages from some other poor sap in pain.

    13. One good thing of all of this – he was NICE. He was a good dentist (endo), he explained exactly what was going on, and today? I don’t feel like there’s an axe embedded in the left half of my face. Aaaah. Thank God for Root Canals.

Happy Thursday! Thanks for stopping by!
