    This is a sweet portrait and she is a beautiful girl, indeed. I love the colors and light. I like how the hat frames her face and the color bands in the brim make a curvy swoosh along the left side of the photo. My favorite part (besides those gorgeous eyes) is the sunlight sprinkled on her face. Looks like a sunshine fairy zapped her. ;-)

    Is this a painting or a photo? Because it looks like a photo, and I know photos can be called portraits. Love the light shining through the hat, that is awesome. She does not seem shy about life, that is great.

    OK, the girl is very pretty and the sun spattering through the hat makes this photo work, but am I the only one who got distracted by her body jewelry?? Please tell me it was just a prop she was holding between her lips!

    Marcia, this is a photo - I tend to not call my photos of people “portraits” unless it presents as a portrait to me. That probably doesn’t make any sense at all, but a photo of a person isn’t a portrait to me unless it has good composition, lighting, and most importantly - emotion. It has to say something about the subject in a very personal way. :)
