Weekly Contest Announcement!
Entries will be accepted through Friday afternoon around 4PM CST, at which time I will close comments and select one winner from the entries received. I’ll announce the winner on Saturday and post the completed portrait with the following week’s Giveaway announcement.
Qualified entries will include a valid e-mail address, and the comment should include one link to a photograph owned/taken by the entrant. If you do not have a place to upload photos to link one, you can e-mail it to gallery *at* intricateart dot-com. Your entry, however, should be included in the comment section below, with your story – should you choose to include one.
The Selection Process: In case you’re curious, I’ll share my little artsy process in selecting the winner. First – I do not read any entries at all during the week. I do not read them because I don’t want anyone’s entries to have any more time than any others to settle in my creative brain. At the end of the week, I close comments. When I sit down to go through all of the entries, I read the story first, and open the photo link in a new window. When I finish reading, I flip over to the photo and my initial reaction is what I go by.
If your entry is not chosen, you may enter again. I encourage you to include a short story with your entry.

The day before I found Maggie Mae when we were driving to look at another horse named Blondie I was trying to think of a new name because I didn’t like the name Blondie. All of a sudden the song Maggie Mae by Rod Stewart started playing in my head (we didn’t have the radio on and I normally listen to Country music so where it came from…who knows?!) and I thought, oh, I would love to have a horse named Maggie Mae. I promptly forgot about it until the next day when I stumbled across the ad for Maggie Mae (I knew Blondie was not “the one” – she was horribly sick with a really bad infection in her lungs and she was very headstrong and disrespectful, which I cannot tolerate in my horses so I was looking again) I asked my husband Jim to look at the webpage for Maggie Mae and he watched the videos of her and came into my office and told me to call them right away – he had a very strong feeling about her. I called and Erin told me she would call me back in 10 minutes – while I was waiting for her to call me back Jim and I were looking at Maggie’s webpage and talking about her and I suddenly remembered the song from the day before so I told Jim about it and we knew that Maggie Mae was “the one”. As soon as I was in Maggie Mae’s presence I knew for sure that she is “the one” for me! She is everything I dreamed of, and more.
Today marks 14 years since our son Andrew passed away due to bronchial malacia.
This link is a reprint of what I wrote shortly after his passing so I would not forget him. I now know that I will never forget him. He taught us unconditional love.

The first photo on this page is my favorite of him. I was taking his picture for our Christmas card that year. He giggled so hard he kept toppling over like a weeble.
He is greatly missed.
My friend Karen (your current winner) has encouraged me to enter. I am sending you a link to our boy Mo-Jo. He is our first boy Shepherd and we love him lots. We also have his half sister, Jazzy. Mo-Jo came into our lives after loosing our GSD Chelsie Girl. She was eleven when she passed over the rainbow bridge. Our entire family was there at the time of her passing. I can not say in words the feelings that we felt….We also had another older GSD named Hannah and knew that she was not going to be here much longer. Our girls passed away within ten months of each other. We found Mo-Jo about eight months before Hannah was to leave us. She adopted Mo-Jo and became the ultimate mommy. In turn, Mo-Jo gave her exactly what she needed. She actually became more active and lively with our boy. I am positive that he extended her life! He is my noble companion and sweet boy……thank you Mo-Jo for all of the kisses……just touching you makes my day!
