Today begins Week #38 of my 2009 weekly graphite portrait giveaway! Each week, one winner will be selected to receive one 5×7 graphite (pencil) drawing from their photograph.

Last week’s winner was Jackie Roach with Molly, her friends border collie who recently passed over the rainbow bridge. Both a heartwarming and heartbreaking entry.

Nicole, Molly’s human mom is completely distraught from her death and I would love to give her this as a gift of memory and friendship.

Read her entry in full here.

    Weekly Contest Announcement!

Each Monday, I post the weekly Call for Entries along with the previous weeks completed portrait (above). I may change the subject theme each week, or leave the theme open, so please pay close attention to the details in each announcement.

Entries will be accepted through Friday afternoon around 5PM CST, at which time I will close comments and select one winner from the entries received. I’ll publish the completed winning portrait with the following week’s Giveaway announcement. If you’re a fan on Facebook, you might just get a sneak peek at the winning portrait before I publish it here!

Qualified entries will include a valid e-mail address, and the comment should include one link to a photograph owned/taken by the entrant. If you do not have a place to upload photos to link one, you can e-mail it to gallery *at* intricateart dot-com. Your entry, however, should be included in the comment section below, with your story – should you choose to include one.

The Selection Process: In case you’re curious, I’ll share my little artsy process in selecting the winner. First – I do not read any entries at all during the week. I do not read them because I don’t want anyone’s entries to have any more time than any others to settle in my creative brain. At the end of the week, I close comments. When I sit down to go through all of the entries, I read the story first, and open the photo link in a new window. When I finish reading, I flip over to the photo and my initial reaction is what I go by.

If your entry is not chosen, you may enter again. I encourage you to include a short story with your entry.

Once you have won a portrait, I ask that you refrain from multiple entries, to give others an opportunity to win one as well.

Your challenge? To inspire me! Choose your photo wisely – I will select a winner based on how the photo and/or story moves me.

    Good luck!!

A heart wrenching tribute to a beautiful dog whose essence you captured in your portrait. My heart goes out to Nicole. May she find some comfort in this wonderful gift.

OMG, :bawling: I have tears streaming down my face after reading what Molly’s mommy wrote about her! What a sweet, special companion I’m sure she was and how fitting for her to be immortalized in one of your amazing sketches Leanne! BRAVO :clapping: ~ Dee

Love this one for sure. I marveled at how you captured all the long, flowing fur…especially the fine strands all over the place. I also chuckled because her photo shows her smiling and your portrait reflected that as well. Very beautiful.

I am back this week re-entering Logan, my Leopard Gecko. I had to mail my photos to Leanne because my scanner was acting up. Anyway Logan ‘appeared’ at our house needing a forever home. Being a ‘furry’ animal lover, I was not so sure about this reptile creature. But he is gorgeous and funny and very entertaining, even if he does eat live crickets. I have come to love him very much. He is very easy to care for too. And believe it or not, the cats pay little attention to him. 🙂

    Molly (Miniature Dachshund, ??/??/???? – 08/31/2009):
    • You touched so many hearts and triggered an endless number of smiles
    • You were the ultimate snuggler, and never turned down a belly rub
    • You enjoyed shopping with Mommy, and never complained no matter how long she took in the dressing room
    • You fit in as a city dachshund, but thrived as a country dachshund
    • You never backed down from a game of tug-of-war no matter how large your opponent
    • You were always there to comfort those who needed a loving embrace
    • You made our house a home, and warmed our bed on the coldest of nights
    • You were a big sister to a puppy who needed guidance, and protected her from others even when she started it
    • You’ve suffered through medical procedures, and have miraculously rebounded to ensure us that love could heal
    • You always made coming home a happy occasion, and nipped our nose to let us know we were gone too long
    • You were rescued by your mommy, but it is was your mommy who was rescued by you

In the end, we were by your side, just as you were by ours for so long. The six years you spent with us were not long enough to show you how much we loved you, and our lives will never be the same. Have fun with Duke, Rocky, Mindy, Samson, and all the other beloved pets that have gone before you, and watch over all those still here with us, especially: Liebe, Copper, Ruby, Primo, Rocco, and Brandy.
You will always be in our hearts and memories. Rest in peace.
    Love Always,
    Mommy, Daddy, and Liebe

    Hi~
Marilyn Sholin, my dear friend of more than 20 years, who photographed all my babies (2 children and 4 dogs) since their births, recommended that I submit my darling little angel Carly for your custom drawing contest. I lost my little white angel who was also my youngest baby last week on 11th September at the age of 14. I also had her mother and her aunt . She was born in my hand, all 4 1/2 ounces and 6″ of her, and died in my arms, and I am devastated and missing her more than I could ever say in words. Everyone who ever knew her was completely enchanted with her and I will send you my email submission.
Thank you for your consideration. Your drawings are just wonderful.
    Best always,
    Robyn

[…] Last week’s winner was Karen, who submitted her rescued leopard gecko, Logan. Karen has a history of rescuing and nurturing stray animals, and it really touches my heart that her reach extends out as far as reptiles! I applaud her for her constant devotion to all of animal kind. She is a true animal lover! […]
