Yesterday morning, I spotted a Red-Tailed Hawk flying low through my back yard. That was cool. Mid-day, I listened as a Northern Flicker chirped at the top of the trees around our home. He stopped by our suet and had a bite of breakfast before resuming his song. Goldfinches have returned, a little dull in color but I’m happy all the same.
And today? We’re supposed to get 4-6 inches of snow. The last time this happened, I was a wee toddler.
Yes, that’s right, it was this day back in 1972, we received 10 inches of snow.
My poor birds.

hopefully your snow will be like ours…quick and over with. Thursday was snowy and miserable but by Friday noon everything on the roads was melted and on Saturday only the really tall drifts remain.
Then all your birdies can come back to play.
Poor babies!
We are -finally- hearing the birds sing.
Great shot!
Great shot and great get!
Wow Leanne, what wonderful pictures you capture, love chickeymonkey in her flower dress, and the birdies are just wonderful.
Oh snow, we dont get snow at all where we are, 🙁 I think sometimes it would be nice. We are just into autumn here, and my grass and trees are still all green, and the days are just glorious, lots of birds about too, we have a family of magpies here that I must throw bread out to everyday, or they are very loud lol. Please send me some pics of the snow.
Cheers Debra (Australia)
Juncos are one of my favorite birds. The Juncos around here have a lot of rosy hues on them and they spend a LOT of time in the driveway, on the deck and just outside the tack shed where I store the feeds – and we always keep a feeder on the post of the pasture there filled and the juncos eat what gets tossed on the ground by the other birds.
We got snow here this past week – and we got snow the last day of school last year (late May). Springtime in the Rockies!
Hi Leanne,
I don’t remember when I signed up for your emails, but am very glad I did. Love the Junco photo – and the Fairy photo as well. For 6 months now, I have been receiving chemo for a brain tumor, and your emails are very soothing. Keep up the great work you do – and enjoy the spring. -Victor Profis
Neat catch, Leanne. Keep putting out the seed and the birdies will be okay.
