It’s another scorcher of a day. I can’t even think of anything to say other than “dayum, it’s hot.” And I’m a summer girl. I prefer sweating over freezing my tootsies off in 30 below any day.
Today though? I’m |<>| this close to reconsidering. (Note: Not reconsidering. Just close.)
My poor plants are flopping over from the heat,
Birds are panting,
Evil grackles are dirtying up all the fresh bath water,
and the squirrels are dying for a dip in the pool.
It’s too hot to even eat sitting up.
Thankfully, this is going to break in a day or two – at least that’s what the forecast is for now. Meanwhile, does anyone know if it’s safe to transplant Azalea’s in this kind of heat? At dusk, or early morning? Should I wait for a nice cool 80 degree day? Ugh. It’s hot.

Those poor little critters. A panting bird! Who would have thought…I can’t help but feel so sad for them. It IS HOT! awfully hot.
I went into our garage to get something and no kidding I was drenched in minutes.
The pool is even to hot to swim in.
:swimming: =
Stay cool.
Tommi
I am amazed that you even ventured out to take pictures! I walk down the hill to the mail box and wheeze all the way up. The cat begs to go out, goes down the steps, sits, gets right back up, climbs the steps and is back in the door before it closes!!
I believe it is way too hot to transplant but google azalea and you should be able to find out for sure! :meow:
I can totally feel your overheated pain. We are getting some serious rain right now, though that seems like it is going to cool stuff off. :gloomy: :swimming:
It sure has been hot…and I’m tired of it! Bring on the snow! :cold:
Y’all have black squirrels? How pretty! We just have the plain kind.
Too funny! My post was similar today. I have a thing about complaining about the heat because I choose to complain in the winter. But last night was dreadful! You have the best shots btw.
Ha! You were actually hotter than us the other day! Our heat index today will luckily be between 105 and 110. We’ve even had cats drinking out of our pool and the poor birds are skimming the pool water to get cooled off too!
The best time to transplant azaleas is spring or fall. If you have to do it now then wait till an overcast day or after a good rain when the soil has had a chance to cool. And azaleas don’t fair as well if you cut into their roots when transplanting – try to dig around entire root system. Good luck!
I loved your pics…I miss black squirrels. We had them in Michigan and until I moved away I had never seen any other kind. Here in CT, all we have are grays (at the house anyway) My kids think it’s weird to go to Grandma’a house and see black ones. They’re so pretty…a pain in the butt, but pretty! I’d say dig the hole and fill it with water. Keep it wet, then tonite when it’s cooler, go ahead and plant it, watering it well. Keep an eye on it over the next few days. It should be fine. I just moved a Euonymous (sp?) and an Azelia and they were both fine. Stacie :zombie:
:meow: Oh, what wonderful pics! Love them!! That poor squirrel! Oh my. It’s hot everywhere!!!
I hope it cools off for you. Its 98 here and we are enjoying the *cool* weather. 115-119 is our usual for this time of year.
Paige is right. I’d wait awhile if possible before transplanting them. IF you must do it, do it in the early evening so that they have a chance to settle in at night. If the nights are hot, however, it will stress them out too much.
Loved these pictures. even the animals are suffering!
Stay cool 🙁
That’s so cute, the pic of the squirrel eating lying down. It has been hot. DC’s heat index was 107 yesterday! Whew. They say tomorrow gives us a break!
Our stretch of 90 – 100 degree temps only lasted about a week and broke on Monday so my windows are back open and my air is off. It’s a comfy 82 today with 20% humidity so it should be coming your way soon I hope. Why on earth are you wanting to do yardwork in that weather? Go have a popsicle and watch a movie or something much less productive. I know that drives you crazy, but don’t be out in that. It’s not good for you or your azalea. Hugs to you, clara
Is the heat wave ever gonna end. I can’t think straight. :lazy:
Great pictures as usual! 😀
