If you combine this with this (and some days, this), you know what you get? Nope, the answer is not “a baby” or “a hilarious post that will surely make me send the link to all my friends so they can subscribe, too”. No. Of course not.
Granted, for many people this week is the PERFECT week for this look. For me? Notsomuch.
The feeling of sadness that the day has started before the dawn, and ended well after the sun has gone down is really difficult to explain. The frustration of getting last years jeans out of the closet? Oh jeez. Grab a bag of Oreo’s and a tub of ice cream and let’s cry into our napkins for a few hours. The leaves? Gorgeous. From the inside. The smell of stale furnace air? Has my sinuses in a tizzy. The lack of beautiful flowers to look at, vegetables to pick from my garden and birds outside the window?
Let’s just say I’m one of those that’s going to need to start saving early for winters in Florida.
Now, I can appreciate those who love the fall, and even those who love the winter. I’m not one for either. I moved here for my husband, I stay here for the kids. If I had my way, we’d be in sunny San Diego, still. I’d be barefoot right now – and the heaviest jacket in my closet would be a windbreaker. Yes, that’s the life for me. Ocean waves crashing up onto the shoreline. The sound of seagulls cawing at the crack of dawn.
If someone could just put together that “sunrise simulator” including these elements, that would be GREAT! Until then, I’ll just (try to) keep my mouth shut, lest I put my foot in it.
Do any of you suffer from SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder)? What do you do? Bake a batch of cookies? Oh, wait. That’s a symptom, not a cure. (And I’ve already tried it.)

I’ve never lived in the nawth, so this is pure speculation, but I believe that I would suffer from SAD as well.
I used to ride my horse clad only in tshirt and shorts in the winter… and of course now I’m even further south.
Feel better!
I haven’t blogged much about it, but I started WW the beginning of September…sometimes I get those cravings, but since I’m such a newbie at WW I can usually substitute something else.
I don’t think that I have SAD, but I do suffer from cabin fever sometimes. I grew up in the south and I miss it a lot…I have fond memories of the beach on Christmas Eve.
Colorado tends to stay sunny, even if we’re cold. So that’s a good thing…I can sit in a sunny window and refuel myself. Still I claim a strong allergy to snow. 😉
I hope you get a warm & sunny day soon.
awww… i get that, too. this time it doesn’t help that my very good friend is moving, from Florida all the way to California.
:gloomy:
I love the fall because of change of colors, and also love the winter….because of snow:) It’s beautiful. Of course, Christmas helps to make me love the winter, too.
I don’t think it’s SAD exactly, but I have to agree on the “getting up before the sun and going to bed after it” thing. Makes one just want to curl up and hibernate for a few months.
I wish I had a magic answer for you. Bing! And it’s all better. All I can say is do something you love. Paint a picture, read a book, play with your girls, plan next year’s garden, whatever makes you happy. The sun will come out again. Just give it a little time.
YEAH me too WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I lost a few plants I’ve loved to the overnight hard frost and I’m wearing SOCKS today WWAAAAHHHHHH :phew: :sorry:
I’d trade a little of the chill for some consistent temps. Low humidity, temps in the 90s during the day, and then dipping into the low 60s or high 50s at night. Sinus weather. Fire weather.
Blech.
