I completed this design for EWebscapes this week, Miserere Mei is written by Rev. Daniel Sparks, who is currently deployed to Iraq.

Rev. Daniel J. Sparks is a priest of the United Episcopal Church of North America (UECNA). He is also a Christian activist, writer, and social commentator.

Father Sparks is a native of Lawrence County, Alabama.

Fr. Sparks studied American Political History at The University of Alabama (Tuscaloosa), where he earned the Bachelor of Arts. He completed graduate work at Samford University’s Beeson Divinity School (Birmingham, Alabama) where he received the Master of Divinity.

Ordained as a deacon in 2002, Fr. Sparks served at Tribe of Christ Church in Leeds, Alabama, and as curate at the Alpha and Omega Anglican Cathedral in Luverne, Alabama. After his ordination to the priesthood in 2003, Fr. Sparks served as a campus ministry associate at The University of Alabama and as an associate parish priest in Bessemer, Alabama.

His design was inspiring and soothing to work on, and he is a wonderful person to work with.

    A Bunny Birthday

    July

    2007

As many of you know, we rescued some baby bunnies this past spring – one of them had a weed-whacking injury so we thought it best to hold them for a week until that one could heal. They did well, we didn’t handle them – left them in the garage with food, hay, water, and shelter – and then released them into our brush pile the following weekend.

Two of them have hung out with us, not too domesticated but also not very afraid, either. The one with the injury was very sociable, she let me get pretty close, and she always made herself comfortable. You could tell she didn’t feel threatened around us. That really made me feel good, considering the expense and extent we’ve gone to to have some security on our property.

A couple of weeks ago, I noticed their absence. I saw them a couple of times across the street and knew they would be safe there, so I wasn’t too concerned. A few days ago, I spotted a new baby bunny. This one is just a few weeks old, and he’s alone. He’s doing well in our garden, eating up a lot of my flowers (which I’m getting used to, now) and he has a cousin. A lighter shade of brown – a month or two older, and very skittish. I’m happy to have bunnies around again, of course! (Just call me Snow White.)

Well. Today we were doing some yard work and when we finished up, we sat on the patio and were just relaxing. I noticed Zorro-girl bolt through the yard and over to the flowerbed, where I thought I saw her starting to munch on my chrysanthemum. I went over to her, and saw her buried beneath it:

    wild brown bunny birthing' class=
I asked her not to eat my plants, but she completely ignored me. My plant was shaking from her movement and I thought she must be ripping off a big piece. I also thought “hm. She’s completely ignoring me. I wonder if she’d mind if I just pet her a little bit?”

    So I did.

    wild brown bunny birthing' class=
Wow, she’s soft. I pet her a few times, and she didn’t care. I asked her if she was ok. She looked at me funny.

Then I thought, “man, she doesn’t even care that I’m petting her. This is so cool. I wonder if she’d mind if I picked her up?” So I moved my camera to the side and picked her up. She let me hold her, and I felt a bump. Woah, I said to her “honey are you pregnant?!” and she jumped out of my arms. She promptly went over to the other side of that little log and you know what she did?

She popped out four baby bunnies. That’s what she did. And I got to watch. And I coulda cried.

One of them kept rolling down the hill, so she let me put him back underneath her. He kept rolling, so I told her I’d help her move them back under the plant, and I did, and she went right in after them and continued caring for them. I sat and watched her nurse her new babies, and thought – this is incredible. What an amazing thing to get to witness – this bunny who was injured that we rescued and hoped would survive well in the wild when we released her is now a momma of four, right in the same backyard she grew up in.

Awwwww. :sniffles: Does this make me a grandbunny?

    I’m hot.

According to photoblogs.org users, I’ve got myself one hot Photoblog.

I had no idea. I don’t even check the stats – I just post photos, ya know?

Good thing I’ve been sneaking in a few minutes every day to reformat my site and add an e-commerce shop. It’s sorely needed, as right now there’s no quick simple way to order a print. Yeah, yeah, I’m getting there – paying customers come first, though!

Go pick your favorites so you’re ready when the store opens.

southern social custom blog design ewebscapes wordpress pink black atlanta blog' class=
I had the pleasure of launching a blog design today for Southern Social, in all its preppy-chic pink and blackness, and I’m so excited to have had the opportunity to work on this project! Leslie is an Atlanta blogger, and I can really see her turning it into an Atlanta hot spot for info on dining and hitting the hot spots around town. I’m looking forward to seeing how her blog grows in readership and popularity now that she’s switched from Blogger to WordPress. Yeah! Another great decision made by a very smart blogger!

(I love it when people get their own domain names. Love. Pink, puffy, big and fluffy hearts.)

I installed WordPress on her new domain and imported her blogger posts with just a click of a button. Okay, a couple of clicks – but it really is easy – you should do it, too!

Go on and visit Leslie and say hello, show her some of that Southern hospitality she’s used to!

Just another super cool blog design brought to you by yours truly through EWebscapes Blog Design Studio.

    “We Love What We Do!”

    I’m starting over!

    2007

It all started Friday night, when I tried to open a program that decided it didn’t want to work anymore. It was time. I had everything – except my bookmarks and favorites ($%!@$!! :duh: ) backed up to my new Maxtor 300GB external hard drive.

I started to sweat. I got the jitters from my elbows down to the tips of my fingers, my head swam a little bit and my heart was racing. I slowly inserted the pretty fuchsia colored Operating System Reinstallation CD. I closed the CD drive. I shut down my computer, and I rebooted. I closed my eyes and said a little prayer, then I hit F12, and I proceed to reformat my entire hard drive, completely wiping it clean and starting over.

Three hours after I got off the phone with the Dell Guy in India, I was feeling a bit euphoric. It was like I just bought a new wicked fast computer. The hard part was getting everything reinstalled – all the programs I use, and have bought online and downloaded with activation keys that were lost in my primary e-mail account (woops, didn’t back that one up) – restoring my major e-mail backup files in Outlook – it all went surprisingly well. Seriously. I’m waiting for that big dingy .wav file to tell me my new installation is corrupt. Expecting my CD drives to open and close on their own and for windows to go nuts on my monitor.

For now, I’m a happy girl with a lot of space available on my hard drive. I have my email. I have my programs back. I did not lose all of my data, and I’m grateful it didn’t come to that.

Now I just need a nap, and I’ll be ready to get back to work on my new improved fully functioning 4 year old Dell!

I’ve also replied to many of you via e-mail. If I missed anyone, I do apologize. I was trying to stay current through webmail until I had my outlook configured again. Drop me another mail if you haven’t heard back from me by now. Thank you!

    How To Grow Grass, Fast!

tips to grow grass from seed, fast
Over the past 11 years that we’ve owned our home, we’ve made several failed attempts to fill a lot of bald spots in the yard. This year, me and my new green thumb have finally got it all figured out.

The grass pictured above is seed that I put down Sunday, July 1st. We saw growth in just 4 days, folks. Now that’s fast. This is day 5, and it’s over an inch long. I know you’re all just dying to know my secret, right? Well just pretend you are, because I’m going to tell you anyway.

    100miraclegro.jpg100seed.jpg100miraclegro.jpg100hose.jpg
The dirt in the bare spot needs to be raked over, just a bit – I didn’t go very deep, maybe just 1/4 or 1/2 inch. I spread a nice layer of Miracle-Gro potting soil (the moisture control is good, too) over the area – then put down some generic fast growing grass seed – unless you want the special stuff, that will probably grow quickly too, but you can always seed the good stuff in the fall. Over the grass seed, spread a nice thin layer of Miracle-Gro again, then keep it really well saturated. Water in the morning and at night, and any time you notice the Miracle-Gro has dried out.

We had a torrential rainfall on Tuesday night that washed much of the Miracle-Grow and seed both in a pile at the end of the area that I seeded. I gently raked it, spreading it back to its original spot, and added more soil and a little more seed, then drenched it all again. It’s all filling in and I’m excited to see so many bare patches filling in with bright green grass!

And there you have it. Now go, sow some grass. Your bare summer feet will be very happy, because baby grass is very soft, and it tickles.

    UPDATE April 19, 2009

I’d like to show you before and after photos of this area of our yard.

    BEFORE:

    AFTER:
Note: We added a privacy fence, and neighbor cut down all of their trees,
added a room and a door on the side of the garage.

The first photo was taken in 2004, just after we’d had a room addition put on the house and were left with a huge mound of dirt. We left the mound for several years and planted on it, using it as part of the landscape. In July 2007, we transplanted everything and leveled the mound, and started growing grass. The summer of 2008 it was patchy and young, still filling in. Now, April 2009, you can see it’s thick and lush and very, very green.

Stop back and let me know how well this works for you – and share your before & after photos!

    Fireworks in Photos

When we came home from the fireworks lastnight, I decided this would be the photo that I would dedicate to Michele. So, Michele, this one is for you. And everyone else? I’d love for you to enjoy it too, if you’re so inclined. I really don’t mind, and I’m sure Michele wouldn’t mind sharing, either.

This is actually a little smaller than the image I uploaded to my photoblog. I have a very nice show of Fireworks for you, so please click here to go to my photoblog (or just view only the fireworks), and then keep your clicker over “next” for a nice colorful show. Now might be a good time to grab a small bowl of popcorn, or some chocolate, or a funnel cake.

Funnel cakes go great with fireworks, you know. And so do chocolate covered strawberry kabobs. Oh and freshly squeezed lemonade. Gotta wash it all down with something.

Fruit of the Spirit Blog Design

“But the Fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-23

Debbie has been a regular reader and friend of mine for a long time now. She’s sweet and kind and peaceful, and she has three beautiful cats, too.

You can imagine how tickled I was when she ordered a new design through EW and requested me, and then gave me artistic freedom with her new blog design. A couple of key words and an open mind – what more could a girl ask for? Her earthy color scheme with a touch of berry make her new look feel very calming and spa-like to me.

Stop over and say hi, and browse through her photography while you’re there, too!

    Don’t forget your camera.

I can’t tell you how important it is that if photography interests you, you need to take your camera with you wherever you go.

We went for a walk lastnight, just around the neighborhood within a mile or so – particularly this one area where we sometimes see deer. I was hoping for a great shot of a different bird, and boy did I see and hear some that stay really well hidden in those trees. I ate some wild blackberries, and found deer tracks in the mud alongside the road.

I didn’t expect this shot, though, and this is why it’s so important to strap your camera around your neck before you head out the door.
