Tonight I laid down the basic highlights & shadows on their portrait. I blended a bit to get a feel for this paper, and it really holds and blends the chalks well! I’ll be continuing on this piece tomorrow.
I’ve spent the afternoon with the girls, at the eye doc. We thought Caitibug had recurring blepharitis, but this time it turns out it’s allergy related and the drops we had were not even touching the inflammation in her little eyeballs. Poor Bug, she looks like someone just shoved a hot poker in her eye. Ow.
I just checked the Taters, and they’re not dry enough to scan yet. That pure pigment takes more time to dry, and there’s a LOTTA pure pigments in that painting!
This lil tidbit of news should probably have its own entry. I know how my “regulars” come strictly for the “eye candy” so if you guys miss this, I’m gonna have to smack ya. I submitted a photo to a contest held by the International Library of Photography, and found out today that I’m a semi-finalist! Regardless of weather (whether?) (whatever) or not I win or place, my photograph will be published in their annual hardcover anthology that goes to print this fall.
So, after the girlies are tucked into their tent for the night, I’ll be working on John & Ella’s portrait. I’ll update my cam status when I get going on it!
I’m done I’m done I’m done I’m done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It so rocks, I think I am going to have to keep it. (muaahahaaa) I wish. Scan & details forthcoming! (Wet paint!)
Allllmost finished! Once this is all dry, I’m going to add the stars on the flag, initials on their lil sign, and do a little more darkening & lightening.
After working on her feet, I swear my client is evil. She put those on her on purpose just to confuse me I think. What on earth are those things?! Plastic bare feet in heels with no straps? I’m so confused. Well. If it was her goal to challenge and confuse me, mission accomplished!
😈 😆
Trackin’ back to Beth and Jo, because linky love is a good thing!
Here’s where I’m stopping for the day, I should be able to finish them up tomorrow!
The Mister is done, well – dang close to done. I’m still painting on cam if you want to watch me paint the wifey!
Here’s the second work in progress on our lovely Tater Couple. This is sortof an underpainting, it’ll really only need the lightest lights when I finish them. So basically, what’s finished is almost in its final state.
I’ll be working on John & Ella’s portrait next week, so I’ve been prepping their portrait to get it ready to start. This one will be done in the same medium as Doc Shnurman’s portrait, but this time I’ll be using a different ground. I picked up Wallis Sanded pastel paper (the museum grade), which only comes in white. I mixed a flesh/peach tone using watercolors and acrylics and did a two layer wash over the sheet (stretching and all that jazz while it dried). The digital pic is over-saturated with red, it’s a little more pale in person than what you see here.
I did finally finish up that custom illustration (which just plain rocks, I think!), and over the last couple of 8-10 hour days sitting here in front of the computer on my tablet have resulted in my hand becoming “the claw”. I think I’ll see if I can find a more comfortable stylus for my tablet! I’ve been hitting the couch elevating my arm pretty early the last couple of days because of it. Still a little sore, but a day off from the tablet will cure it! I can’t show you the final graphic until it’s been incorporated into the design, though, so you’ll just have to be patient. 😉
Today I’ll be painting the Tater couple, and I’ll update my cam status when I get started!
