Polish Chicken WIP #2
I started several 4×4 paintings a couple of months ago and I’m finally getting back to them! I just finished the underpainting on this polish chicken, and will work on a couple other underpaintings tonight as well. You can have a look at my project calendar to find out what I’ve got planned!
4X4’s WIP #1
I’ve just completed making all of the 4×4 paintings patriotic! (That was part of the deal.) I’ll go back and add highlights and lowlights and stuff to give them dimension. Aren’t they fun??
A Few More Sketches
I did get a few more sketches done today, the top two are from the 4×4 countdown (one upgraded to 5×7). The goobly gobbly one is CAKE. Yes I’m gonna paint a cake. MMM. And if you’re nice to me and post a whole bunch, I’ll share the recipe with you. heh.
This one is Sissy, she’s a white kitty and will be a nice dramatic portrait since she’s got really beautiful long white fur. Her left eye looks strange right now because I just outlined where it will appear to be. There is a beautiful drop shadow cast on her left side, she will actually have a similar (and reversed) shading effect of Into The Light.
Tiny Painting Sketches
I am missing 2 of this group of 4×4 paintings, because I am waiting on canvas. Bah.
So, of my group of folks who were with me the night the countdown ran to zero, do ya know which one is yours?
Lion : Final Scan & Details!
Are you ready for this?! ONE MORE TIME, I will show off my newest masterpiece. Man-o-man. 3 hours to scan, my computer kept misbehaving so I called Dell for more virtual memory. (That’s right, another gig of VM just for the lion!) Then I had to reduce my scans by 50% just so my programs wouldn’t crash out on me. More memory will arrive tomorrow, then I can piece the original full size scans together and it will be large enough for a near-full-size print.
I thoroughly enjoyed painting this guy, and hope many more people consider custom wildlife paintings. It gives me a great opportunity to broaden my gallery and get to the zoo for some photography sessions!
Click “read more” for all of the detail images. There are plenty, and they rock! (Toot, toot, toot – it’s so unlike me, but this piece does deserve it!)

Lion Completed!
Here he is, furry paws and all that jazz! I love him. I’m going to scan him when he’s dry (before I ship tomorrow) and show you some detail shots, and trust me I’m scanning big enough to make prints of this bad boy.
A side shot here for you, I chose a nice deep olive for the sides of this whoppin 1-1/2″ deep canvas. It looks awesome!

Lion WIP #7
Now I’ve completed his face and mane, and need to work on the rock to the right, his paws and the foreground mulch. I’m going to stop for the day, The Man will be headed to work tomorrow (first official day back) so I’d like to cozy up to my favorite lump for a little while. 😀
