  • Maude : Cat Portrait

Another in this series of three pet portraits (Mick, Maude & Cheeky) are complete. This is Maude, another 4″ x 4″ oil painting. She’s a sweet little calico kitty, this is a great pose, too.

(Here’s the last work in progress I posted of this painting.)

    Cheeky : Cat Portrait

Cheeky’s painting is complete, it’s just a little bitty thing, 4″ x 4″. There’s a lot of detail for such a small painting. I’ll post a scan of the piece when it’s dry and I can get it on my flatbed.

(Here’s the last work in progress I posted of this painting.)

Yes, I flipped my old design back up for the blog, for now. I’m being indecisive about it.

Here’s Mick’s work in progress, this is just the underpainting. Pardon the specks of light reflecting on all the wet paint!

In case you’re wondering what he’s missing, it’s whiskers. That’s always that “one thing missing” until it’s finished, since it’s the last thing I do. He still has a few layers of fur to go before he gets whiskers.

Here are Cheeky & Maude‘s underpaintings, I’ll finish them up tomorrow. I’ll be working on Mick‘s underpainting this afternoon.

This is another commissioned piece I’m working on, his name is Mick – his portrait is on a nice traditionally wrapped & tucked 8″ x 10″ canvas.

I’ll begin painting all three portraits as soon as I can – I must have brought a stomach bug home from my trip, it hit hard yesterday afternoon and I’m still taking it easy today. I’d like to have these done by the end of the weekend.

Maude & Cheeky : Cat Portraits

These are two cat portrait commissions I’ll start painting in oils today, Maude (a calico) is on the left, Cheeky (a persian kitten) on the right. They’re both 4″ x 4″ square. If I get on a roll with these two, I’ll be able to work more on the Great Blue Heron until my canvas order arrives and I can start my next commissions.

I finally got to paint a bit, and worked on the sky and ocean. I’ll work on the grasses next and put another layer on the sky to give it a pretty solid shade of “takes your breath away”.

I normally don’t share my doodley sketches, but got to playing with small sections of the three I’m working on and thought I’d give you a little glimpse of my sketchbook in its own artistic form. This will be the only work in progress of this one that I’ll share, I’ll show them again in their final form. I am also putting together a photoblog/gallery design for an amazing photographer that you’ll get to see and visit soon as well.

I hope your weekend is wrapping up nicely.

Painting on the Great Blue Heron today (thanks again, Laura!), as much as I can before contractors start showing up. I wanted to get this progress shot in before the sun bears down and floods the studio.
