The storms that passed through lastnight were remnants of what hit Kansas. Still, they packed a punch and brought my girls to huddled piles of blankets. I watched out the window as the winds took control, saw the clouds as they swirled to form tornadoes that touched down in farms miles away. I stood in awe, humming this song as I watched, thinking that as terrifying as it is, it is equally beautiful and wondrous to watch.

I held my camera to the window, pointed it at the top of the tree in our front yard, and snapped in burst mode (they’re about 2 seconds long each). I opened them up this morning and was in awe all over again. The whole series is about 10 seconds worth of our tree blowing – it clearly shows the power of the storm. The movement is captivating to me – slightly blurry, but crisp where they need to be.

The hail came after the wind – quarter sized, but it didn’t do much damage that we could see.

I stayed with the girls as another storm moved in and counted “one-one-thousand, two-one-thousand” with each flash of lightening, and fell asleep when the storm was about twelve-one-thousands away.

They look like hurricane pics! I know what you mean about the awesome power… I tend to get on my knees during a bad storm. 😉

Yes, mother nature has real power 🙂 Awesome scenery. One feel very tiny in those situations. And admiring.

–but we don’t have as bad storms here in Sweden as you can have in the states. Luckily.

Thunderstorms send me under the covers too.

Had a tornado in manassas at my gym about 2 years ago. They evactuated all the kids into the basement, but all of us stupid adults stood plastered against the GLASS wall watching it. It was kinda neat, but really scary.

Great pictures. Makes me worry about all the birds nests in the area.

So glad that you’re all okay. Yes, those storms are amazing. The winds here are making it really hard for me to grill dinner…it blows out my flames! :jawdrop:

When we lived in Wyoming we had a tornado cloud form right between my house and the one next door. We just stood outside watching it. It never touched down…I think God was making sure it didn’t cuz we were standing outside.

Wow is all I can say! So weird how so much of the country is getting so much rain and storms and here in GA we are parched dry with not a drop in sight.

I keep saying “Where is Superman when we need him to move the water around!”

Great shots of the wind and I agree on your humming. Majestic and scary all at the same time.

Thank goodness you are ok. Bunkering down through a storm can be scary. Mother nature can sure be loud and forceful. The images are beautiful to look at, but I can’t say I would have wanted to be there.

Lightning scares me up close, but I love seeing storms from a distance, they are awesome. The last three tree pictures look so human in their “body language” – look like they are fighting with each other: the left one took the right one by surprise and got in his face, then they started shouting face to face. Then, either they are just peacefully in the calm that followed, forehead to forehead, or the right one is exerting a bit more pressure on the other. 😆

Wow! Those are pretty wild pictures! We recently had our share over here in Arkansas with quarter sized hail too. The kids and I had just gotten inside: safe and sound when the sky opened up! Fortunately, no damage this time to this house! My husband was out of town. We’ve had 3 different trees fall on 3 different houses over the past 7 years. It’s taken me that long to surrender my fears totally to God where I am able to have some sort of peace during those scary times! Otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to appreciate and agree with you: “How Great Thou Art!” God bless you and your sweet family – I love the braids on your daughter also!!!
