Lacy is an American Eskimo, fluffy and white and I just want to dive into her fur and hunker down for the winter. She’s going to be a pressie so “sssshhhhh”, keep her portrait progress on the down low until after Valentine’s Day. Seriously – what a nice gift to get from your Honey on Valentine’s Day, a custom portrait of your dog! Personally, I’d bawl. So knowing that, I’ll be sure to package her portrait up in something water resistant.
Two white dogs portraits in the studio – Lacy is also an 8×10 and will be painted in oils.

White portraits are definitely tricky! They really test your ability to look at color for what it really is – instead of what you *think* it is. White is rarely “white”.
I had a client once, after seeing the underpainting for their portrait e-mailed me to remind me that their dog was really white. There were so many shadow colors in the underpainting I think he was really terrified!
Wow. I bet doing the white portraits are a bit tricky aren’t they? I don’t have any training painting but my dad used to paint (not with your talent but better than your average joe) and I remember watching him work and trying to imitate him as a child and a teen.
I’m always so interested and impressed with your paintings.

Oh my, I’m so behind. Sorry, Leanne. Let me first say happy belated birthday. I’m so sorry I blanked it. I went through a spell having a headache (near migraine some days – full blown others) for about two weeks and other than feeding my children when they complained, I accomplished nothing, including sending you happy birthday wishes and for that I am truly ashamed. I will have to make it up to you very soon.
