On our way to the store yesterday, about a block from our house, there was a man starting to mow a section of grass alongside the road. It was one of those large mowers that pulls behind a tractor. We turned right and I noticed a red tailed hawk swooping down low and then perching right up on this telephone pole. We thought he was being sneaky, getting a hunt-free lunch from the rodents that the mower would rustle up – and we knew he was going to be there for a few minutes so we quickly made a big circle around the block and went back for my camera.
We came back, pulled into a driveway and I got a few shots of him. I got out of the car and stood about 30 feet from the base of the pole, and he did this:
He gave me a good talking to for spoiling his lunch – and he flew off. How cool to see one of these right down the road.

Too cool! A very spectaular shot! I really need a better camera or maybe a better eye! :meow:
I love when you can look at or watch wildlife and know with near certainty what they are thinking. So cool.
i’ve never seen one of those, it looks like it’s huge!
It looks like he is wearing a revolutionary outfit with knickers, and he is giving a lecture. Was he screaming? That is so amazing that you got so close to him. :cloud9:
Least he didn’t poop on you! (giggle) Birds sing for some people ya know?
Great pictures as always. We actually had a hummingbird on our porch yesterday while we were swiinging on the front porch.
Great picture! I love it!
