  • To Design, or Not To Design?

    2005

For about 4 years now, I’ve been learning the in’s and out’s of HTML, tables, and graphic design. My own gallery has gone through a minimum of one revamp a year, sometimes two, and I am always changing things around in it. Same with my blog. Since I moved from Livejournal to Blogger to WordPress on my own domain, I’ve been teaching myself CSS. I’ve never been confident enough in CSS to do anything spectacular from scratch, so I learn here and there and use online tutorials as much as I can.

    I know my limits.

When I met Lisa, who runs EWebscapes, I was looking for someone to revamp my blog for me after spending hours of frustration elbow deep in code that would not listen to me. I knew I could handle the graphics, I knew exactly where I wanted everything to be, I could just not get it to go there. Thankfully, CSS code is her second language. And through Lisa, I’ve learned a ton. I’ve offered to design for her from day one, if she could hold my hand and teach me as I go, which is an impossibility – she is just too busy to teach. From day one though, she’s said that if I got a few (like a dozen or something, ouch) great designs under my belt that showed my flexibility and creativity, she would consider bringing me on board as a designer for EW. Right now, I do illustrate for her clients, but I don’t code the design.

Obviously I’ve not met those conditions, because, well, I’m a painter by trade. And I should be in my studio right now, but I’m here. Coding. And I’m having fun. A few more designs, I keep telling myself, and I will be adding “blog designer” and “graphic artist” to my dossier.

So, ya need a new WordPress blog design? 😉

Actually yes I do Leanne, but one you have already done. If you know how to make word press agree with Yahoo’s Geocities… well, I would be forever grateful. I have tried and tried to upload and configure and I am lost. I don’t want to lose the wonderful design you did for me, but I want my blog on my site! sigh…:sorry:

Leanne, you are so talented on so many levels! I appreciate you and your desire to keep learning and fulfilling all of the things you want to be. I can’t help you out with a blog, goodness knows I only visit yours and most days don’t have much that would be interesting to others. Good luck in all your endeavors, but don’t you dare ever push your painting aside! Hugs, clara

Could ya hurry up? Is that asking too much? Isn’t there a book out there.. “Become a CSS / Blog Design guru overnight so Lisa can sit back and eat bon bons and drink Irish Creme”

Check amazon.com – it’s gotta be there!! :good:

[…] Don’t worry!  Leanne will remain our staff illustrator here at E.Webscapes – but as of today, her responsibilities and talents in her bag-o-tricks have increased!  Through several months of working, learning and banging around inside the inner-workings of WordPress and CSS – Leanne was determined to learn how to use her creative skills to design blogs, as well.  As an artist, the creative part is like second skin to her – – the technical, back-end work was a bit of a challenge.  However, not SO much of a challenge that she couldn’t tackle it – because she has.  As a result, we’ve hired her on as a designer for E.Webscapes, as well as an artist.  Talk about crazy skills, man!
