I worked on Elsie for quite a while yesterday, basically just painting in her dark fur. I’ll wait now until this layer is dry before I paint her ears and her next coat of fur. I love this look though, it reminds me of pen and ink. If it weren’t for the smell of oils in my studio, you might think so looking at it, too. Every single brushstroke will give her portrait that much more dimension, and it’ll make the painting that much more interesting to view.

The monochrome coat is still a visually stunning a backdrop for her eyes… but now the rest of her is trying to come right off the canvas! I can’t wait to see the finished portrait!
That’s beautiful! So do you do layers of glazes after that, allowing the fur lines to show through? *sigh* So pretty!
I did an apple once, I was planning on experimenting with glazes, but my husband loved the apple in black and white so much I didn’t have the heart to paint over it. :O) I haven’t done many, and it’s only about 4×6, but it’s his favorite painting.
