Lola silver lab puppy dog portrait painting by Leanne Wildermuth

I completed Lola’s portrait very late yesterday, and without the natural sunlight I opted to wait until today to publish it here for you to see. Just a few colors on my palette for this painting; white, indigo, olive, raw umber, magenta, french ultramarine and yellow ochre. I enhanced her fur a bit more in her portrait than her photo really dictated because she’s got a really pretty coat and I wanted to show that off a bit.

Click here to view the work in progress, if you’d like to see it all together.

I’ve taken a side photo of the panel so you can see the dimension as well.

I just got my internet connection (cable) back about an hour ago, apparently it’s been down all night (thank God I was sleeping, I may have very well chewed off my fingernails waiting for it to come back up!!) I did manage to get a couple of other projects underway while I was waiting this morning.

Hope you’re having a good week!

Beautiful! You did a great job on capturing that friendly look of labs. I have two black labs and I noticed that look as soon as I saw your painting. :clapping:

You really captured that “happy dog” look she has. I’m sure her bean mom will love it!

Leanne, what an amazing dog portrait this is… I dunno, something really wonderful about it. One of my favorites now for sure. You are the goddess of pet portraits!!!! This dog has to be a wonderful pet, you can just see it. For the first time ever, I drew a wolf’s face the other night when I couldn’t sleep. All I had was a pencil and a paper (was not at home) and a picture. Well, for a 1st attempt ever, I was actually quite surprised that it wasn’t awful. It was a little primitive but it sorta looked like my photo. I have been reading up on how to blend pencil shading, etc. (one of the things I didn’t like about it). I experimented with what I learned and the tips were very helpful. Guess it just takes lots of practice. If I get brave enough, I’ll show you and maybe you could critique it for me 😉

    Again, wonderful portrait Leanne.

Oh my gosh. You have totally and completely captured our little Lola on canvas. I practically cried when I saw her. I was so worried that her gorgeous coat and her amber eyes weren’t going to translate in any of the photos that I sent you, but apparently they did. It looks just like her. Thank you so much. This was supposed to be a Christmas present for my husband, but I couldn’t resist. I just sent him the link to her portrait. Fantastic. We’ll be back with our next pup…
