I am a firm believer that peonies are meant to be cut. The stems grow thicker, the foliage thrives all summer, and these beautiful flowers do NOT deserve to be droopy and falling onto the ground from the weight of their petals. So if you have them? Go now, cut them and bring them in!! Enjoy the aroma around your home, and don’t let them rot on the ground outside.
I’ve got two bouquets now, and have several vases on the table, just waiting to be filled.

Leanne, those are stunning. I can usually match you for garden plants, I’ve Poppys about to flower and the Iris are stunning, but I don’t have a single Peony plant in my garden, so I’ve very much enjoying yours :thanku:
P.S. made note to self to find a spot in the garden where I could put some Peony’s, and think I’m due for a visit to the garden centre :yes:

Simply manifiicent! and what a beautiful photograph as well! One of Gods bestest creations for sure! Have you ever seen those dinner plate size ones? My friend’s grandmother had those in her garden and was the envy of her garden club and everyone else.
What a beautiful picture. I have a couple of peony plants in my garden, but I very seldom cut them. Maybe I should. Thanks for the tip about cutting.

Wow the neighborhood got done with the peonies last week. You have two??? These are beautiful and I SO AGREE about them being meant to be cut! I wish I had thought of that when my neighbor said “Well they always droop down!” DUH! Is the other peony same type? :yahoo:

Gorgeous!! I hope mine do the same. I had to transplant too, but mine are looking a little sad still. Hopefully they will perk up once they establish themselves a bit more. In the meantime, I’ll just enjoy your beautiful peonies! :love:

I wish I had a garden, I am waiting for my boys (Hubby and grown son) to get one going for me, they need to clean up a bit first lol. I miss having a garden. Once again they are beautiful and I envy you your garden, oh well some day. Thank you so much for sharing the pic with us.

Sue – I’ve never seen the dinner plate sized peonies! Mine are about dessert plate sized, plenty big for me!
CC – I’m glad to stir up those memories. I hope my girls feel the same way about flowers when they’re grown!
Erikie – of the 7 plants (woops, I said 6, need to fix that!) – I have 5 pale pink, one fuchsia, and one that I don’t remember – it hasn’t bloomed yet!
Geekwif – I used a root stimulator as well as liqui-feed on my transplants, kept those roots wet for several days. One of them still looked droopy so I cut off what was wilting so that the plant could redistribute energy to the happy looking areas. 🙂
That touch of red is the perfect accent to those pretty flowers. There’s just something about peonies that make me smile

Leanne, these photographs are really fabulous! I do believe peonies are the MOST beautiful flowers, and the images you’ve created have such a classic, old world look to them. The dramatic lighting really enhances the gorgeous look of the blooms.
‘Sounds like we have a lot in common. I’m a graphic designer and art director, I love to paint (although ‘haven’t had time for it lately), I’ve recently become interested in photography (and absolutely LOVE shooting flowers in studio and outdoors), and I love gardening. Amazing!
