Phew! Long overdue progress shots of Pete’s under painting! I’ve been busy trying to rescue my garden from the flooding along the house, and since it flooded again yesterday (well, the half that I don’t have complete), I’m now waiting for the mud to dry out so I can get the raised bed finished and back to non-back-breaking labor!
So, I did get Pete’s under painting complete and took a few pics along the way so you can see how he’s coming along. I’ve darkened in his wrinkles, then move along with bigger brushes to fill in the base coat of darker shades.
Here I’ve got most of his cute little pug face finished, and start filling in blocks of color around his neck and chest.
This is the completed under painting, of course I am sometimes tempted to call them done at this stage because I like how they are coming – but of course it doesn’t take long for me to want to kick it up a notch and get my pet portraits looking much more photo realistic!
Will be finishing up his portrait very soon – stay tuned!!

:clapping: bravo!! it’s looking awesome.
I just cannot believe the incredible tranformation between the top drawing and the one underneath it…from the first underpainting to the colors on him. Huge difference…and a magnificent one! Love it so far!
Wonderful Leanne, I’d been wondering how you were getting on with Pete the Pug, I’m almost glad that your yard is flooded so you have to go inside and paint 😉
It’s that little extra that makes your paintings so fabulous. Every time you post a WIP, I always think how great it looks at this stage (and I’ve seen a lot of art by others left at this stage as done), and then you add the little details and take it from great to amazing.
Leanne, I love it! It is nice too know that I will always have this great portrait of Pete to remember him by. He is getting up there in age as you can see from the pics..16. Thank you for the wonderful keepsake.
Hi Leanne! Love seeing your progress shots when you’re working on a portrait. It’s so inspirational. This one’s looking great as ever!! And guess what??!!!!!!!! (Just can’t keep this to myself!!) We’ve got a little furry ball of mischief coming to live with us in just under 2 weeks time!!! I am so excited I cannot wait!!!!!
