I don’t listen to the radio often, for a couple of reasons:
(1) I’m a recluse and rarely go anywhere in my car, which is the only place I’d be inclined to put the radio on.
(2) When I do drive, I usually pop in a CD. No commercials, you know.
I did, however, catch the tail end of a song a week or so ago that caught my ear. I wrote down the lyrics I remembered when I got home and was going to search for it but didn’t, until the other day. I finally found it on Walmart.com (you can listen to the windows media clip of it here). I listened to the clips of Anna Nalick’s entire album, and downloaded it all. I’m kinda stuck on Breathe, though, and can’t get past it for some reason.
I wanted to learn the lyrics, so I went and found them, printed the sheet, and proceeded to teach myself the lyrics. Instead, I found myself bawling. I couldn’t tell you the point that the melody and lyrics caused me to burst into tears, but I was deeply moved by this song and it’s been a lonnnnng time since a song has done that to me.
I finally caved and painted on this artpad, it’s like a movie. It helps to have a wacom tablet!
UPDATE : Second round – I added fur. I couldn’t help it. Sorry. You can see the whole painting here. You might want to increase the speed!
:giggle:

They still had it! I picked up another box tonight JUST so I could keep it. I searched all over the internet for an image of Finding Nemo Cereal with Bruce on it – it does NOT EXIST. Well. It does now! Isn’t it wicked? I am in love with Pixar. What incredible graphics!
Hey! Maybe this time we’ll win the sleepover in the Castle! Yeah! Hahaha! I’m not holding my breath on that one.

This is the new piece I’ve been working on, it’s finally ready for show and tell as a work in progress. This is a custom portrait – the setting of which is based completely on the fond memory of a woman about her her father. After composing the setting and pulling elements from several very old photographs, a bit of background here, a side pose there, the smile of her father, I merged all of it together and created this scene that (hopefully) matches her memories of sitting in front of the fire talking to her dad when she was a teenager.
This is the third fourth revised sketch on canvas, ready for paint. There will be a soft glow about the room, which I’m really looking forward to painting. I’ll start the underpainting this afternoon and get work in progress shots up for you to see as I go.
If you know me well, you know how in love with music I am. I think I have some damn fine taste in tunes too. The only kind of music I really can’t listen to for very long is rap – and I mean RAP, and heavy metal. SUPER heavy metal. Otherwise I am a huge fan of musical talent.
Today is Retro Wednesday in my studio, I’m starting with Color Me Badd and don’t know where I’ll go next. What are your favorite retro tunes? I’ll take your suggestions and burn myself a Retro CD (and hey, maybe I can burn multiple copies for those of you whose suggestions make it onto the burn?) – I’ll be painting today so it’s gotta be motivating, and fun to listen to over – and over – and over!
Psst, is it bad thing that a conservative white girl (mother of two…) is jammin’ to early 90’s hip hop?
Not too long ago, we were all wandering aimlessly down the cereal aisle at the grocery store. Oh how I wish there were just 10 kinds to choose from, but that’s a rant for another day. Scanning over the five-thousand selections of cereals, one caught my eye. Usually, the ones that catch my eye are on the tippity top, you know, really far out of reach for normal people. That’s where the healthy stuff is.
Not this one.
This box was right at Chickeymonkey’s height, about 3 feet, second row up. I saw it and looked away quickly, frosted marshmallows in milk! IEW! Oh but the box is SO DANG CUTE. I wanted the box. Really. But for $4 a box? I’ll pass.
Just then, however, Chick saw the box. Immediately she pointed at it, looked up at Daddy and asked for “those! I want those!” Daddy said no, knowing how I like the kids to have cereal sans frosted marshmallows. But no, I had to pipe up “but Daaaaaddyyyyy, I want those toooooooo”! And with that, he threw a box in the cart. There. Me, and mini-me, we’re happy campers. We are now the proud new owners of Finding Nemo Cereal. WOOHOO!
I had to hold the box. I admired the beautiful graphics and flipped the box over. A contest! Yeah. Win a sleepover in the Disney Castle. Uh huh. I wish. Whatever. Here’s some wobblers, too, oh how cool. Only 1000 sets? Okay. Yeah. Well, it’s a nice box!
We added the box to our collection of cereals (seriously, how many do you have to choose from? We have like 5 boxes at all times. LOL) – the next morning of course we HAD TO HAVE THOSE FOR BREAKFAST, MOMMY!
Fine. I opened the box. Poured the cereal. Double checked to be sure we were instant losers of both fantabulous prizes, and wouldn’t you know it?

(I painted this Red Tailed Hawk last year, you can see him here!)
“Yet even in certain defeat, you must cling to the belief that life is not merely a series of meaningless accidents or coincidences, but rather it’s a tapestry of events that culminate together in an exquisite, sublime plan.”
“If we are to live life in harmony with the universe, we must all posess a powerful faith in what the ancients used to call ‘fatum’, commonly referred to as destiny.”
From one of my favorite movies, Serendipity. I originally posted this on January 8th, but when I was searching for other pics I’ve posted of our home I stopped and read it, and wow. I think I should have read this Saturday morning, huh? Though maybe if I had, I wouldn’t have accomplished the living room makeover. heh!
Did you watch Serendipity? Does this quote make your mind get all pondry? (Is pondry a word?)
