  • Poppies

For the first time ever, I’m growing poppies! It’s been over a month since I put seed down to grow a “humminbird and butterfly” garden. We built up this giant mound in the backyard, put a birdbath near it, and everything is growing like crazy. It looks like a bit of prairie snuck into the backyard! I just wish I had as many hummingbirds and butterflies as we have bumblebees. Argh.

Regardless, I have some beautiful poppies blooming, so I took a couple of pics for you. Aren’t they pretty? If I water them, they’ll fall apart. They seem so fragile, and they make me want to buy rice paper and paint a watercolor or something. Wierd. But hey, any inspiration is a good inspiration, I say!

This guy cracked me up this weekend, and I knew when I saw him that it was going to be a good day for critter pics. So here ya go –

Did you notice? I went away!

I packed up the girls and headed north for the weekend, where a few interesting things occurred. But first, a pic of the view where we stayed, a place called Lake Lawn Resort. I have to go back to this place some day. With a fishing pole, and a boat!

If I’m not around for a few days, no need to panic – just caption, have a giggle, and I’ll join in when I can!

Today marks the 4th year of my second attempt at understanding my husband. My first attempt lasted approximately 7 years, then they came and took me away (ha ha hee hee ho ho)! All in all, I’ve loved the big doofus since I met him back in 1989. That’d be 16 years for those of you without a calculator handy! I think about 2 weeks into dating I scared the goobers out of him when I said “I’ve got a feeling I’ll be spending the rest of my life with you”.

He should have bolted then, when he had the chance.

Oh. Wait. Yeah, he did try to do that. Muaahaaaaahahaaa!

Anyhoo, Happy Anniversary to my dear old aging bifocal wearing gray overtaking the hairs left on his head husband, who just gets better and better with age. Because if you can tolerate me for this long, you’ve gotta be good/special/brilliant/insane.

Say that 3x fast! Not because it’s a tongue twister really, just cause it sounds kinda funny when you do that.

    Summer Solstice Full Moon

This week, the moon is the lowest-hanging moon we’ve seen in 18 years. Well you know how I love a challenge, I took my camera and tripod out and attempted to get some very neat shots of Mr. Moon. Here’s the first one, the rest of my faves are hiding so you’ll have to “read more”. I’m going to have to start saving my pennies for the super zoom lens, I’d like to get more clear pics of the surface of the moon, but the glow is just fine for now. 😉

    New WIP #2

This piece is going to take some time to complete, and that’s okay, ’cause I really want it to be awesome. I’d like for it to be as hyperrealistic as I can possibly make it, just to push myself a little harder like I do with every piece, but I think even moreso with this one. I’ve been wanting a challenge like this one since I finished Antoinette, and every day I look at Homecoming I’m reminded of where I want to go with my paintings. I am also much more aware that the more patient I am with myself and my oils, the better the results.
