    Double Digital Day

    December

    2005

I had intended on starting my “Ornament a Day” project today, so I will do that. In addition, I received an amazing photograph in e-mail taken by a dear family friend and coworker of my hubby that I have to share. My hubby does travel (from time to time, ahem.) and this last project has him in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. On top of that, it was Dan’s birthday (Happy Birthday, Dan!), so they went to the Caverns. Dan snapped a shot of my hubby within the caverns that he calls “very Blair Witchy”, and I agree! It’s a great shot. He is an aspiring photographer, with a pretty dang good eye for composition, I’d say.

    First, the ornament:

This is obviously a purple glass ornament. It has no special meaning, but the composition is what’s important. The background shows the first snow of the season this year, and I think it’s always a fun thing to have the first snow captured “on film”. I’ve done this for years now, usually our first snow happens much closer to Christmas. In fact last year, our first snow was a light dusting on Christmas morning.

I hate snow. Regardless, (whose blog was it I was reading who has a major pet peeve for the overusage of the non-word “irregardless”, I laughed my butt off at that one while nodding my head! I digress.) it’s pretty, and there you have it.

Now, for the Amateur Photographer Highlight of The Day:

    Pine Cone

You’d think this just fell from a tree in my yard, but it didn’t. I took this pic last spring while we were vacationing in Florida! Now I’ve spoiled the wintery-ness and want to fly south for the winter. How about you?

    Snowman

Part of our overdone Christmas decorating includes this snowman. I wanted an acrylic ice-cube snowman but they were sold out. Bah! This guy is cute though, although he falls apart in a strong wind. Yep, his head just fell right off today. Poor fella.

    Peace

Here’s another shot that was a bit of an accident. I was in my studio trying to focus in on the fire, hubby walking toward the house – I really didn’t want him in the shot but at this crop and with this screened effect I thought it turned out really cool! Er… I mean hot.

Yesterday blew by like it was only 2 hours long. I swam in the morning and felt good and refreshed and energized. I came home and my neighbor had called (ahem. The one that is supposed to be swimming with me every day, Ms. Sleeperinnerhead.), so I called her back. She has a Very Important Person visiting next week so took this week off to prepare. Her house. By redecorating every room. And she lives next door to an artist. Heh.

It’s yardwork day for dear old Dad, I just wondered how I might be able to capture burning leaves. Now I know.

A few weeks ago, one of my photographs was Googled by a member of the Industry and Parliment Trust in London. She contacted me to request permission to use my photograph in their Autumn Newsletter. Of course I was (am) honored to have one of my photos considered for publication, so I promptly sent her the image for use by the IPT.

You can see my photo at the bottom right of page 4, here. (It’s a PDF Newsletter)

    My Buddy Gib

This is my new buddy, a Gibbon. I met him at the zoo of course, you can sorta see my reflection in the plexiglass. He followed me around the ledge, and put his face up by my fingers when I touched the glass. I sat by him for a few minutes, right up next to him. He’s beautiful, and for the short time I was with him I wanted really badly to be a zookeeper, or Jane Goodall.
