    Me & My Doggie

    April
    25
    2006

This is my doggie Chloe and I, kissin’ in the backyard. Actually, she’s taking a pretzel stick out of my mouth. She’s always been a gentle soul, I’ve never had to worry about her biting my face off.

Thoughts inside my head at this moment, in case you’re wondering:

    • OMG, I’m really going to post this picture?
    • I’m so impressed that he pressed the button at the right time. Nice job, honey!
    • I can’t believe he’s making me post this.
    • He’s really not making me post this, he just dared me. I am always up for a challenge. No matter how embarassing.
    • I can do it, I can do it!
    • Oh jeez, everyone is going to see my ink splotch.
    • And my cleavage. Oy! Quit looking!
    • I’m gonna hit the upload button…right…here…urgh….crap…okay. Sheesh. It’s done. I did it.
    • Actually, this isn’t so bad, because 10 minutes after I saw this photograph, I went and got a haircut. So really, I don’t look anything like this today. Haha!

Also, I had more freaky dreams lastnight, if you want to read about them, visit my Dream Blog.

    Man Pats

    April
    24
    2006

Does your man give you “Man Pats”? I have to know. My sister and I had a long talk about Man Pats, and we were wondering if this is much more common among the opposite sex than we realized. Let me explain what they are:

    • The Dog: The pat on the head and mussy hair action. Usually just one to two pats at a time with pauses inbetween that last for between 10-20 seconds.
    • The Giddyup: The quick double pat on the thigh, butt, or back, that screams “giddy-up, woman!”
    • The Citrus Squeeze: This doesn’t need explanation, does it?
    • The Sway: Slow rocking from side to side during a hug.
    • The Pelvic Sway: Just like The Sway, only with an Added Bonus!
    • The Poker: Yes, the poker. You know what I’m talkin’ about.

Have we forgotten any? We’re sure that there are more, perhaps our men have an outdated version of the Man Pat Encyclopedia. Help a married woman out – are there New Fangled Pats available? Younger, more peppy versions of the Old Pats? Are there online tutorials? Your help in this matter would be greatly appreciated!

    My other Thirteens
    1. I’m blogging my dreams now over on my new dream blog, Just Dreamy. I’ve already had a couple of doozies, too! Colleen, thank you for your interest in my dreams, this is all your fault.

    2. The next post I publish will be how to get off of blogger. Pinki Swear. I started walking Shelli through it last weekend, so I’m going to write it down while it’s all fresh in my mind.

    3. While you’re reading this, I am in my studio sketching my new painting. It’s 18″ x 36″, and I’ll post the sketch when I’ve completed it. Here’s one clue: Vitamin Sea. That’s all I’m giving you.

    4. I will also begin working on the other series, since I finally got over to the store to pick up the backdrop for those paintings. That’s the one where a whole bunch of you told me your favorite bite sized edible nummy. If you didn’t make a suggestion, please feel free! I’ve got a list going!

    5. The first color I normally put on my palette is raw umber. It’s also probably the color I use the least. Strange.

    6. There are some new brushes that I really want, they’re Aqualon Wisps. Well. Now that I’m looking at them, I don’t like them as much. Hm. Nevermind then. 😛 Does that ever happen to you? Please tell me it does.

    7. I think I am finally going to end the week on the other side of this weight loss stand still I’ve been on for over a month. I never was good with a yo-yo, especially when it’s wrapped around my hips, if you know what I’m sayin’. I’ll be one helluva happy camper if I get through this plateau – I haven’t even blogged at my weight loss blog (Pounds2Go). My head is hanging in the hall of shame. Crossing my fingers that things will perk up by Friday and I can be inspired, and inspire others again.

    8. I did, however, pull my pants down the other day. Capri jeans, that is. Still zipped and buttoned, I didn’t even have to wriggle. That was cool!

    9. Our girls and I went to a park the other day with my neighbor friend and her kids, and boy did I get a workout. We played a bit of tag, and I was “it”, a lot. By the end of it all, her 10 year old said parents shouldn’t be able to run that fast, and shortly after that I knocked the top of my head into a beam. No more runnin’ for me! Doh.

    That (still) hurt(s).

    10. Right now I have more great photographs that I want to blog than I have days to blog them. I try to put up a photo a day, but I may have to double up before some of them get lost or forgotten.

    11. I have to share my feet, including my creepy naked toenail photograph. If you’re easily queasy, now would be a good time to cover your eyes. Please keep in mind that until now, I could count the people who have seen my naked toenails on one hand. It’s a rare thing, almost more rare (rarer?) than a blue moon. Okay an eclipse. Something rare. Just pick something rare.

Okay everybody – IEEEEW! Ooooohhhh! Aaaaahhhhh. Happy toes!

We love stories with happy endings, especially when it involves toe rings and new flip flops. (MommaK, I did you proud, my friend, didn’t I? :sniffles: You needed that. I know it.)

    12. I love my new flip flops. They’re pink. They’re soft and leathery and ooooh my new favorites. And I’m so happy the weather is nice enough for them! Yayyy for flips flops and pretty toes! What color are your flip flops, and more importantly, what color are your toenails? Just curious.

    13. Here’s a challenge for you Thirteeners out there. Get a post-it and a pencil, or print the list of this weeks’ participants from ThursdayThirteen.com. Over the next 4 days, make a mark every time you visit and leave a thoughtful comment with someone listed in this week’s TT edition (comments will close at 7AM CST on Saturday morning, so any time after that is good for printing the list). Stop back here on Monday and let me know how many you visited, and the top 2 will be next weeks featured blogs at the hub. Sound cool?

Happy Thursday! Thanks for stopping by!

    Translation, Please?

    April

    2006

This website, Chinadaily , has a section that has displayed a couple of my photographs lately (here, and here). I’m guessing it’s a community section of some kind? I don’t know. I’ve followed the referral links back to them and sadly, someone manipulated one of my photographs and cropped out my copyright. That’s against my Terms of Use, folks. That image should be replaced with an unaltered version – and those of you here from China that speak English – please handle that for me, as no one from Chinadaily is replying to my e-mails. Yet. *Updated to add* They do link back, yes – and I appreciate that and am very flattered by the interest in my work! There’s just the one little croppy issue, still, that needs to be addressed.

    Anyhoo. Back on topic.

This page here, this is new. And I translated it (babel fish), but I still don’t get it. Help?

Thanks a lot, Shelli and SusiePie, you wierdos!

    Rules
    1. Go write (six, I think?) weird facts/things/etc. about yourself in my comment box and on your blog, then tag six more people!
    2. Then leave a comment that says “You are tagged” in their comments telling them to read your blog.

    • The second toe on my left foot is longer than my big toe. I’ve heard that means I’m supposed to be rich – whoever made that up is a big fat liarpants.
    • I cannot have naked toenails. Iew iew iew, they’re ugly! I took a photograph of my naked toenails over the weekend, and I’m afraid to post it. I picture all of you simultaneously vomiting, or something.
    • I get sweaty palms driving over bridges. They make me nervous.
    • There are so many naturally strange things about me, I can’t think of anything unusually wierd for this thing.
    • I turn a lot of things that I say to the girls into songs or rhymes. They think I’m crazy – and they’re right.
    • I rarely go out. Seriously. I can’t be the only person who thinks people out in public are just rude, and should have their licenses revoked. I’d rather not subject myself to even one moron like this. I’ll stay right here in my house where it’s safe and I can order whatever I want online, thankyouverymuch!

    There. I’m officially wierd x6.

This post is tag free – let me know if you do it though, and I’ll link you!

    The Outback

    April
    16
    2006

Cait collects birds. These are Audubon birds have official bird chirps when you squeeze ’em, and they’re neat. They don’t sell them just anywhere, we get them when we go to the zoo. Friday, she got a new one, a Lorikeet. Saturday morning, she arranged her collection near the front window and proceeded to call the Robins to the yard with her Robin. Once there were a dozen or so Robins hopping about the yard, she made a single call with the Red Tailed Hawk that scared them all away. Had she left my recollection of the series of events alone, she would have been a highly intelligent bird watcher. A little mean? Yes, but I really did make her out to be a 9 year old with a developed intellect about the matter.

Now, in the middle of bragging about my oh-so-smart-daughter, she corrects me. “There were only 4 Robins. And they were out in the street, Mom. I was trying to get them to come to the yard but they wouldn’t come, and then I tried the Hawk.”

My version is so much better. She was The Aussie Front Yard Birdwatcher. Put on your best Crocodile Hunter Voice, and follow me to the front window for a moment, would you?

“Shhhhh today, we’re gunna have a good look at the call of the Rawbin. The rawbin is a supah cool red-breasted buhrd (fluffs up chest) that eats wuhms by snatchin’ them up right out of the ground!

Here we’ve got a stuffed Rawbin from the Audobon collection of buhrds. They’ve spent hawrs and hawrs puhrfectin’ the call, and if you’ll have a lookie whall I squeeze, you’ll see Rawbins are really attracted to this stuffie. :squee!:

Ohhh lookie that! There’s dozens of ’em! Rawbins are just flocking to the yahd! Let’s give ‘er one more good squeeze. :squee!:

Wow, that’s incredibule! The rawbins are all ovah the yahd now, trying to figyah out where their mate is.

Now, we’re gunna pull a fast one on these Rawbins. See what I’ve got heah? This is a hawk. A Red Tailed Hawk to be exact, the most ferrrrocious rawbin-eating buhrd of prey on the block. Just LOOK at this red tail. Idn’t he a beaut? Aww now, have a lookie back out in the yahd, and pay close attention to the Rawbins.

I’m gonna give this Hawk’s butt a nice squeeze right about heah, and he’s gonna make a noise :sqwau: :squau: now LOOKIE! Wouldjya lookie that – see that? Did you see those birds scattah?

Phew, holy moly, that’s just incrEDable. Those birds heard that hawk and it sounded SO real, they just flew-way, jus like that. That was neat!”

Now see? My version is much bettah, aye mate?

Disclaimer: This may not make any sense to anyone but my sister. Not intended to offend anyone with a supah cool Australian voice.

    Smash

    April
    15
    2006

So. Jay’s rash is looking great, huh? Considering it’s been just a couple of days since she saw the doc, I think it looks just smashing! Pardon the pun. It turned out to be contact dermatitis, caused by a viral infection – the infection presented as a rash, and she’s been on prednesone & steriod cream for a couple of days now.

First thing this morning, though, there was a little-voice-a-screamin, at the top of her little lungs, “not againnnnnnn!” And I went running. And there was blood. And it was dripping.

She smashed her thumb in the bathroom door. She didn’t just smash it a little, there’s a pool of blood beneath the nailbed, and the skin just below the cuticle was all broken and bloody. Thankfully, I kept the padded aluminum stint for little fingers that we used when Cait had stitches in her finger years ago (that’s another story for another time), and I was able to fix ‘er all up here at home. I’m having a hard time getting her to put it on an ice pack though, and it’s throbbing as you can imagine.

I asked her nicely if I could just start calling her Smash, and she said “NO!” so forcefully that I think she’d kick my butt if I continued to do it. She definitely has my angry face. heh!

Thirteen Things about Leanne, Thursday, April 13, 2006
    My other Thirteens
    1. I We finished the harp, and it works! Cait is taking it to music class today to turn in. It’s not perfectly in tune, but we did take it down to the music store to get some help with tuning it.

That thing took me hours, and gave me blisters, and had me cussing – and sweating – and cussing s’more. I’ve done more math in the past week than I’ve done since high school Algebra. I told Cait that if she gets a good grade, it’s mine – and if she gets a bad grade she can keep it. ha! I’m totally gonna pass fourth grade this time! Dude! I’m so excited!

    2. Our local zoo is having free admission this week – and they have a whole new “little” Austrailian Outback kind of area. The kids have a long weekend so we’ll probably go, and then you’ll get to look at even MORE photographs of critters!

    3. Inbetween drill bit changes, jigsaw cuts and fine tuning – I did some landscaping this week. I think I may even have the beginning of a :gasp: tan! I picked up a bunch of mulch and river rock, and really went to town on some things I’ve been wanting to get done for a while in the yard. I’ll get pics after things start to bloom and it actually looks like something!

    4. I finished developing one of my blog/website projects, ThursdayThirteen.com. It has also needed some fine tuning this week, but it’s fully functional now and the very first check-in entry is up, have you left your link there yet? We’re hoping everyone who participates (since it does vary from week to week) will check in with their links, and then you can go through comments and see if there’s anyone new you don’t normally visit. There has been a great response to the launch so far, and now I’m saving my pennies and checking my credit card balances to see if I can get one of everything in the merchandise store.

    5. I have two more projects to work on, but I think – I think?! CAN I? Is it TIME? I think I am to a point now where I can PAINT again! on CANVAS even! WOAH. That’s freakin’ me out. I will have to ask the ants if I can work in my studio, they seem to have taken up residence in my skylight. (It would kinda suck to have them trapsing over one of my wet oil paintings, you know?) One more thing on the list of “things we gotta fix if we’re gonna sell the house and move.”

    6. I really want to move. We like Tennessee and Alabama. Right now I am really leaning toward Alabama, because the twang is better there I think. That’s what it’s all about, anyway. The twang. And the slower pace. And the warmer weather, big tall trees, beautiful skylines, and a total lack of corn. Oh how I love anything that is not Illinois! Get me OUTTA HERE!

    7. Yes, I’m taking my kid to the doctor. I had the appointment scheduled, and we’re all good, and the rash is looking better, and it figures – right? You always get better when you make an appointment! Except for when we went to the music store, and she was running, and I told her not to, and she took a nosedive into the pergo, and ouch! That hurt! Only no – it did NOT, because now I’m TICKED OFF because YOU TOLD ME NOT TO RUN and I GOT HURT and I HATE IT WHEN YOU’RE RIGHT, MOMMY! NO! I’M FINE! DON’T TOUCH ME!

    grrr.

The bloody nose is fine. The huge bump dead center on her noggin? Not sure about that. Glad we’ve got that appointment scheduled now, though.

    8. The guy at the music store makes me feel like I stepped back into the 80’s. He’s got the rock & roll guy hair, long and stuff, and he’s got the guitar playing fingernails, but he is SO nice. So now I’m confused, because I’ve stereotyped them all along. They’re really not all party animals who only hang out with girls in g-strings. That’s like – really wierd. I’ve had a hard time wrapping my brain around that one – and I’ve caught myself creating scenarios during our conversations that he’s going to jump up onto the counter and break an electric guitar over something and throw it off into the aisles of sheet music.

    I need therapy.

    9. That baby bird photograph I took the other day? The little guy in our gutter? Well here’s the rest of that story. He hopped out of the gutter and made a sputtering topsy-turvy flight over to the swingset and proceeded to hop to and fro. He was new to flying, and I feared for his life. He was close to the fenceline, and I couldn’t bear to watch. I ushered the girls away into the driveway, I put my camera down and distracted myself doing something else. I have no idea if the bird made it, or became a mid-afternoon dog treat. I don’t want to know. I can’t think about it. Jeez will you please change the subject? This is really depressing. (That cat lives a block away, and was photographed separately, believe it or not!)

    10. I found a house that I love. Here. It’s so pretty! I hope it’s still for sale in a year!

    11. 8 bags of river rock + 4 bags mulch + camry nice big roomy trunk = everything fits great ÷ that’s really heavy stuff = tires rub against top of the wheel well, you moron. Way to break your new car! (No, I didn’t. It was touch and go there though, potholes and all that.)

    12. Ben and Jerry’s Berried Treasure Sorbet is not only quiet delish, but it also makes you completely numb inside your whole mouth, and the pure coldness touches the very marrow of your bones and causes uncontrollable shivering in a 75 degree environment. How yummy is that!

    13. Once again, trying to remember dreams to blog them in the new digs – suffering from CRS. I think I’ll just call that project a total flop and hope it’s like making a doctor’s appointment – everything suddenly gets better. I think I can I think I can, I think I can!

I wish you all a wonderful, pleasant, warm and sunny Easter weekend! Thanks for stoppin’ by!
