    My other Thirteens
    1. I really don’t like dental pain.

    2. I hate the drive to the dentist. I get sweaty palms, heart palpatations, and I’m entirely too nervous.

    3. I’m curious to know what kind of masochist thought palate injections were better than nitrous oxide.

    4. You know you’re getting old when you have m-w.com open to check spelling, and need to check all three of the “hard” words in #3. Doh.

    5. When the assistant said “do you have any of the bitter taste left in your mouth?” I replied “Nope, just the memories…”

    6. That would have been funnier if you had a nitrous oxide mask on right now.

    7. My biggest fear yesterday was choking on my own tongue.

    8. My second biggest fear was snapping one of the files off in my canals when they left me alone for a half hour to develop films.

    9. Did I mention I had a root canal done yesterday?

    10. My head doesn’t hurt at all today.

    11. Now that I’m not distracted or on pain pills, I can feel the back pain again.

    12. I hate that Dentists charge $770 an hour. Really. Isn’t that a bit pricey for an hourly wage? Okay, overhead. $50. Get real, you’re valuable, but you’re not more important than a physician, mister. Yesterday I needed you, and today, you’re going to take 2 weeks wages from some other poor sap in pain.

    13. One good thing of all of this – he was NICE. He was a good dentist (endo), he explained exactly what was going on, and today? I don’t feel like there’s an axe embedded in the left half of my face. Aaaah. Thank God for Root Canals.

Happy Thursday! Thanks for stopping by!

    In 10 Minutes.

    July

    2006

My (insert heart shape here) really belongs to my Doctor.

That’s what my bumper sticker would say, if I were one of those “I (insert heart shape here) stuff” kind of people.

3:00 AM wasn’t nice to me this morning, neither was 3:30, 4, 5 or 6. But, my beloved Dr., whom I love dearly (I mentioned that), is 10 minutes away from getting a marriage proposal from me. Polygamy sholygamy, he’s the man of my dreams. I’m sure my husband will understand.

See, I’m just yammering long enough to waste spend that 10 minutes before I go pick up a prescription he just called in for me. What? Why? One stinking tooth. Shooting pain to the back of my eyeball. Throbbing, owie owie owie. I am one tooth away from reaching our maximum allowable individual annual expense for our almost completely stupid dental insurance. Give. Me. Pain. Pills. Right Now. Kind of pain. Brush and floss every five minutes kind of pain. Tilt your head sideways to drink some coffee and keep it all on the other side of your mouth kind of pain.

My back? Oh yeah, the back pain – well I can hardly notice it now with all the throbbing from the neck up. hah.

Ding! – my ten minutes are up!

    Mick : Dog Portrait

    2006

Mick’s painting is complete and drying, I love how he turned out. Of course I reserve the right to tweak him in the morning, I’ve been painting for several hours and I usually notice things after a few hours away from the easel. (His muzzle looks purple – it’s not that purple, it’s just the lighting.)

Otherwise, I’ll scan and post his final scan when he’s dry.

You can see the progress against his last update here.

    A Blank … Pig.

    2006

There’s a pig in my studio. Yes, I said a pig. Thankfully, it’s not greased. That would have definitely been problematic. I’ll be painting the pig, of course, because that’s what I do. Paint. Pigs, Catfish, Walls, Frogs, Bricks, whatever. I’m a EOP. Equal Opportunity Painter, dontchyaknow.

The design of the pig will be unveiled as I go, so for the next couple of weeks, I’m going to be all absorbed in the pig. Forgive me if things get a little barnyard’ish around here. In case I haven’t said it enough, this is a pig. A Big Pig. (Can you see my treadmill in the background? The wheel of the bike?) He’s elevated up onto my Bowflex bench, so you know I won’t be working out for a couple of weeks. I know what you’re thinking – nothing would say “dedication” like a piggy back ride – but I’ll pass on that gross display of visual artistry. heh!

In a few weeks, when the pig is complete and has a clearcoat on it, it will be on display in Geneseo, Illinois for their “Pigs on Parade” during the last weekend in July.

Tidbit of braggery: My large scale fiberglass paintings have historically been the top dogs at our local auctions. Go me!

    Just call me Ms. Piggy!

    Maude : Cat Portrait

Another in this series of three pet portraits (Mick, Maude & Cheeky) are complete. This is Maude, another 4″ x 4″ oil painting. She’s a sweet little calico kitty, this is a great pose, too.

(Here’s the last work in progress I posted of this painting.)

    Cheeky : Cat Portrait

Cheeky’s painting is complete, it’s just a little bitty thing, 4″ x 4″. There’s a lot of detail for such a small painting. I’ll post a scan of the piece when it’s dry and I can get it on my flatbed.

(Here’s the last work in progress I posted of this painting.)

Yes, I flipped my old design back up for the blog, for now. I’m being indecisive about it.

    Red Tail in the Wild

    2006

On our way to the store yesterday, about a block from our house, there was a man starting to mow a section of grass alongside the road. It was one of those large mowers that pulls behind a tractor. We turned right and I noticed a red tailed hawk swooping down low and then perching right up on this telephone pole. We thought he was being sneaky, getting a hunt-free lunch from the rodents that the mower would rustle up – and we knew he was going to be there for a few minutes so we quickly made a big circle around the block and went back for my camera.

We came back, pulled into a driveway and I got a few shots of him. I got out of the car and stood about 30 feet from the base of the pole, and he did this:
