    My other Thirteens
People on my mind while I’m piecing together our family room this week:

    1. My hubby, off at training. Me miss heem. :sniffle: I am also very nervous and excited for him to see the new room.
    2. Lisa. (Mary mary, quite contrary!) Her wedding is coming up. Fast. Whose wedding is it, anyway?
    3. Robin. Robin kept popping into my mind, and it could have been because they lost the house, but it could be something entirely different. I said a little prayer, just in case.
    4. Lazy Daisy, because when I think of prayer, I think of Lazy Daisy.
    5. YellowRose, because when I think of Lazy Daisy, now YellowRose is automatically attached, because they’re sisters, you know.
    6. Paige, my best friend of 20-something years, because she’s moving this week and I wish I were working on one of her rooms instead of mine. I would rather be helping her break in her new pool pack & unpack!
    7. MommaK, because she’s moving too. I am so excited about her move, it truly is a dreamy dream home! She doesn’t have a pool, though, so hm. I guess I would still rather help her by giving myself a makeover with all her cool new makeup organize her new pantry.
    8. Jacque, because. She has been absolutely amazing, and she respects and protects my personal space. All that while she serves God and her incredible family.
    9. My Mother-in-law, because I need to call her back. She is anxious to see the room, but I am doubly anxious to finish it before she sees it!
    10. My sister, who just got hitched to this guy that’s had her chained up in the basement head over heels for a few years now. He better treat her well, and by that I mean as well as my hubby treats me, or my hubby and her hubby are gonna be washing clothes – and my hubby’s gonna punch her hubby right. in. the. nose.
    11. Taba, who is also moving, and I wish I could freakin’ help all my friends move!!
    12. Clara, my friend, who I need to catch up with. Soon.
    13. A few people who I feel need prayers have crossed my mind a lot today, and I hope their lives are touched in a way that changes their hearts.
    Bonus:
    14. Of course, each person who leaves a comment becomes a part of my day, and I will stop by and see you over the course of the weekend.

Happy Thursday! Thanks for stopping by!

    An Apology

' align= To all of the non-smokers of the world, I offer you my most sincere apologies. To the former smokers of the world, I thank you for your tolerance.

I quit smoking last summer. I started smoking when I was 17 – my mom was a smoker, my man was a smoker, I was always around the smell. I quit when I was pregnant, I started again later. We always smoked outdoors, so that our kids didn’t bathe in a cloud of stink. We knew it wasn’t good for them. We knew it wasn’t good for us. We just didn’t know how bad it was until our little one kept having sinus infections every Monday after hubby would leave for work. He was still smoking.

See, even though he was smoking outside, it still affected her. He’s quit now, doesn’t smoke around the house at all, but I’m sure in the occasional stressful situation while he’s at work, he’s got them handy. That’s okay, because he’s around other smokers, I’m sure. Chick, on the other hand, still gets yicky sinus infections when she’s around a lot of smoke. We finally connected the dots – her runny nose always started on Friday nights, and was a full blown infection by Monday morning. It went away by Wednesday and was back on Friday night. When he quit smoking, her infections quit, too.

Last weekend, she went to a birthday party. There was a group of smokers. She came home with a sinus infection.

    Someone Stole My Ceiling

    May
    22
    2006

You’re going to just love this. I just woke up from this dream, Someone Stole My Ceiling.

I did   finish the ceiling lastnight, and soaked in a nice hot bath for a while. My fingers were swollen, cracked and dry from all the joint compound. My neck felt like my head was going to snap right off and hit the floor.

I rolled a texture into the ceiling using a roller that looks like an air filter. Our neighbor helped for a little while (thank you, neighbor!) and we got a huge chunk of it done – without J & PR I would still be up on that ladder, I’m sure. J brought over some bath salts late lastnight for me and it was JUST what I needed. Between that, some Burt’s Bees hand cream that came in a set from my good friend Lisa, and a couple of Aleve, I almost feel normal today. Aaah thank you friends!

In case you’re wondering, hubby is off on a training mission, which is why I’m doing this stuff. Of course. I always take on these kinds of projects when he’s gone, because I feel like he works so hard for us all the time, the last thing I want is for him to spend his time off working. I try to get all this stuff done while he’s away so that he can just come home and relax in it, maybe do a little trim work if he’s so inclined.

Today: Finishing seam and corner mudding, going to pick up flooring (yes I’m getting hardwood, but it’s faux hardwood – the snap lock laminate stuff), hopefully getting the wet sanding done (dry fast, joint compound!), priming, painting, and starting the floor installation.

It won’t be long, and I’ll be back to the easel!

Hopefully none of you are planning on stealing my drywall after all of this. I’d be pretty upset.

    Romantic Lunch

Random image from my camera memory this morning, this house finch is feeding a bit of apple to his partner. It looked at first like he was feeding a youngin’, until she hopped around and got her own food – then they flew off. The lighting made it a bit like an intimate romantic lunch or something.

    Five Things

    May

Five things that aggravate the crap out of me:

    • Poop. Stanky, nasty poop that’s piling up within the uncut grass that interferes with my ability to take a deep breath of fresh air.
    • More poop. Stanky rancid smelling litter box that probably hasn’t been changed in 4 months. At least. The heat and wind are mixing it in with the stank of poop in the overgrown grass and blowing it into every. stinking. window. in. my. house. (Literally. Stinking.)
    • Cheap cigarette smoke. Wafting into every open window in our home.
    • Ripoffs. People who see something and go “oooh neat idea!” and just take it. Like they thought it up. Like they put all the effort into it. And they spin it and present it as their own brilliant idea, only it’s exactly the same freakin thing. It’s just got a different “face” and a different “name” and the rest? All created by someone else.
    • Joint compound. ugh. Joint compound.

Great Blue Heron – WIP #4

I finally got to paint a bit, and worked on the sky and ocean. I’ll work on the grasses next and put another layer on the sky to give it a pretty solid shade of “takes your breath away”.

Hardware Tips, from me to you:

    • Just because you can’t see it doesn’t mean it’s not back there.
    • If you can hear it humming, clean it.
    • If you hear it screaming, hurry up.
    • Never, ever let your computer get to growing fuzz on top of the dust, on top of lint.
    • If your grid thingies are covered with solid fuzz on top of dust on top of lint, and you’re quite surprised to find a grid underneath and imagine that must be for air intake, consider cleaning it more often. Duh.
    • Wear a breathing mask while cleaning.
    • Purple Pigs, Cream Cheese Frosted Brownies and Vacuum Cleaners go well together at midnight.
    • Joint compound really dries out your hands. Use lotion.

(oops, sorry about getting off track there, hic!)

    Ooh and P.S.

    • Digital photos make great reference material when putting it back together!
