  • Sheba WIP#1 – The sketch

    December
    13
    2004

This is my next dog portrait sketch of Sheba! I will start painting her tomorrow, and I’ll update when I turn the cam on.

I’m not sure exactly what time I’ll start yet, I have a a couple of things to get ready for my sister to come in town and help me with a few things for a couple of days. God bless that girl, she has been most helpful! Lucky me, I get to figure out how to play Santa by myself this year, and try to keep an 8 year old a believer to boot. Sis is going to distract her while I put my elf slippers on and sneak out the back door. 🙂

    Scans: The Boy & Grandma

    2004

Here are the final scans of “The Boy” (Cole) and my Grandma. I am planning on creating a monochromatic gallery with the new layout, and will be painting more of these in this loose and “less photorealistic” style. I have a few more pieces in mind already, and will pursue those after the holidays and template changeover.

Everybody, meet my Godson Cole. Cole, meet everybody! He’s really not blue in real life. hehe! I painted him monochromatic (teal) in his mom’s favorite color. 🙂

Merry Christmas to my bestest bud ever, Paige!!!

Well here they are, the sweestest Bernese in town! Barney & Bailey were varnished and carefully packed this morning, along with the other Bailey, and they are now on their way to their homes!

I do have something up my sleeve today, but it’s Christmassy so I’m not tellin’. 😉 I also have the best blogskinner on the WWW, who is going to fix me up here with new digs by Christmas! You’re gonna love the transformation!

Now what are you doing here? Go shopping!!

PSST….I’m turning my webcam on to paint something very special if you want to watch!!

    5 Reasons…

    December
    10
    2004

5 Annoying reasons that I consider every time I sponsor/partake in giveaway/contest thingamajoobies.

By the way, if you entered the Gift Basket Giveaway you’ve received your announcement this evening from me with your entrant discounty stuff.

Now let me get on to my reasoning and get this outta my system. FYI, I do this every time I have a contest. The annoyance factor is very low, but exists. So I’m coming here to rant about it. It’s late. I’m tired, and I haven’t ranted about anything in a long time. heh. 😛

    1. Thousands of people who will never visit your site again enter to win something without even reading the rules.

    2. A handful of the people who don’t read the rules will spend 10 minutes locating an e-mail address to write you and ask you what the rules are.

    3. Thousands of people enter the contest, many of them use invalid e-mail addresses, even when you remind them that they can’t win if you can’t contact them. Bouncity-bounce-bounce-bounce.

    4. For some reason, receiving one winner notification mail at the end of the contest equates spam, and those who entered immediately “opt-out” of a list that has a one-time mailing.

    5. Reporting the announcement as “spam” to the ISP. Someone entered the contest. They subscribed to receive the notification. They entered their e-mail address, twice. It’s not spam. Ding-a-ling.

Ok there. All better. I will run another giveaway sometime in 2005! Next time I’ll just announce it here though, not list it with the Sweeps sites. I’d like someone who is around more often to win. 😀

    Screen Resolution Question!

    December
    9
    2004

This one is for all of my readers. I need your input!! In putting together a new blog layout, I am trying to make a decision based on “irritation factors”. Of course I want everyone to love their stay here in my little slice of the web, so I am going to try to base my design/layout with everyone in mind.

Your feedback is very important to me! Leave an anonymous comment if you wish, or just e-mail me, either way is great!!

    On to the question.

My screen resolution is 1024×768. This seems to be the most popular screen size, BUT. I have a handful of folks using other resolutions, 800×600 being my biggest concern. If I design my site to fit 1024×768, smaller resolution users will have to scroll over to the right to view all of the content. Is that extremely irritating? On a scale of 1-10, how irritating is it? Would it cause you to never want to come back?

Right now about 15% of my viewers are on 800×600. That leaves a good 85% who are on 1024×768 or larger.

I know it’s a wierd technical question, but I do need your input. Personally, I would like to be able to display even larger images in my entries, and to do that I need to make that column wider, which makes things kinda wonky for some folks.

Ok your turn to speak up! Bring it on!! (Even if you don’t care either way, just say so, mkay?) THANK YOU!!!

I’m going to get on the treadmill and get ready to start my day! I’ll update when I start painting. 😀

Barney & Bailey WIP – The Underpainting!

    December
    8
    2004

I painted a LOT today! This is their underpainting. The only thing “finished” is the background, everything else will be deepened, lightened, enhanced, furred up and all that fancy painting stuff!

The creamy chest will have very white highlights, the eyes will be twinklier, Barney’s lip will reflect that uberly lovable saliva they love to drip on ya with their wet kisses, and Bailey’s tongue will be prettier-in-pink! They are really going to be beautiful!

We went out yesterday afternoon with Grandma, it was fun! Jayden had a good time, too. 🙂

I’ve been fiddling with some new blog/website layout ideas, hopefully you will all get to see it in action very soon! I’ll keep you updated, it’s going to be a fabulous surprise!!

Ooh yes, I have a quick (literally, a couple of minutes) doodle to share. This is for you, K! 😉 Do you recognize the character?
