  • What day is it?!

    November

    2004

Did you ever have one of those days? It’s 3 in the afternoon, you walk over to your computer, sit down and realize that the day is almost over, and you wonder what you’ve been doing that’s taken this long?

I’ve been tending to my wounds today, which I didn’t think would take as long as it did. 😛 I’ve been trying to potty-train my 10-year-old little 3-year-old who has decided that she would rather pee on the kitchen floor and hide under the dining room table. I’ve been painting B&F in my head so that when I sit down to paint tonight I will be able to get far enough along to finish this painting by the beginning of the week. I’ve talked to Mark for a little while, I’ve drooled as I thumbed through my new Coldwater Creek catalog, I’ve pondered the meaning of life & counted my blessings, and I’ve taken some macro shots of the beautiful bouquet of flowers that were delivered just shortly after I arrived home from the hospital Tuesday. Boy they are beautiful, and aromatic to boot! Here’s your eye candy for the day:

Stargazer Lilies are my favorite. I could bathe in their aroma, I truly could.

I will be hanging out with Jay for the afternoon, and once I get her tucked in tonight I will update and turn the webcam on. I plan to paint from about 8:30PM CST until about Midnight.

    See you in a bit!

I worked on W’s arms today, and still need to highlight & shadow more. I also finished up B&F’s eyes and started to map out the highlights on their faces. There’s a night-time flourescent glow that I partially removed, and will try to get a better pic on Friday in daylight.

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving!! Happy Turkey day, everyone! Eat well, enjoy your family and count your blessings!

Okay folks, I am going to be painting today, maybe a little slower than normal, but I will be painting! I turned on my webcam so you can watch if you’d like!

Back later with a pic update.

W is coming along very nicely, the shape of her face, her eye color, teeth, everything – I am very pleased. (You like, J?) It’s like I had painted this piece so much in my head that it’s painting itself now! I am on about my 3rd layer on her face and neck skintones, and have probably one more, just enhancements to what is already here. Her forehead and brow area are far enough along that I roughed in her bangs, deepened her hairline and started working on her hair a bit.

Her shirt is “finished” right now. I do not anticipate having to make any revisions to it, it’s a beautiful warm chocolate color and the highlights of the fabric turned out beautifully.

Her arms look pretty pale against the rest of her now, huh? I will work on her arms next, after her shirt dries (probably Wednesday), and once she is complete I will work on the cats (the whole background/foreground layer thing). Anyhoo, this will be my last work in progress until Wednesday I’m guessing, and I’ll stop in tomorrow morning and update before I head to the hopsipsal! (yes, that’s how the girls say it!)

    Have a great night!!

My webcam is on! (click here) Right-click zoom to 200% then back to 100% for full view. Yahoo Messenger ID: “intricateartist” 😉

I will continue working on W’s skintones, and will probably move around to whatever I am inspired to work on.

I just created a webpage about my surgery, so those of you who know what’s going on (or those who don’t and are curious!) and want access, the files are password protected so drop me an e-mail for more info!

Going to get ready to paint, it’s going to be a productive and painterly day!

I worked on W’s facial features, as you can see from the pics below! Ok yes the pics are horrible when I take them at night, I have to adjust them just so they aren’t yellow and then they get grainy. Imagine that. Plllbt! Ah well you get the idea. I put a closeup pic of her face side by side with the last WIP shot. She’s coming along nicely!

I’ll get daylight pics one of these days, if I finish painting by 3PM (when it gets dark, phooey winter junk)… seriously I’m going to have to, or you all will think my paintings really look like this. ;P

    Saturday Painting

I am beginning to think that I am going to have to wait until the girls settle in for the night before I can paint! It’s been a crazy Saturday full of games and sisterly catfights, pizza and hanging out.

You can check back after 8:30PM CST on my Yahoo cam, I will try to update before I start but I really am wanting to just get out there and get going. Caitlin is having company tomorrow, so as much as I want to paint I just don’t know how far I’ll get with interruptions. (I’ll give it a go anyway!) We’ll also have to do a few things to get ready for company while I am having surgery. 😀

Ok ok enough yackin, the girls are squealing!

    WB&F WIP #3

    2004

Now don’t be frightened, this is FAR from what the portrait will look like completed! 😀

In case you’re wonderin’, I’ll explain a little bit about how I do this. I start with the blank canvas in front of me, and the photos of who I’m painting, and start with the very first layer of color, the foundation color that I can see in the photographs. When you look at a piece of fur, from the root to the tip there are several shades. I start with what I see as the deepest layer, sometimes I see that the skin is visible, and I start there. This layer is the underpainting. From there, I build up. Layering the skin tones by deepening more, lightening more. Building layers of fur. The last things I paint are the things that are physically closest to you, the whiskers, the hair in the cats ears. In W’s case, the slight flyaway’s in her hair, her eyelashes, eyebrows, bangs. What you are seeing now is what I will build from, and I will paint over every inch of what is already here a couple more times to give it dimension and life.

So as strange as my works-in-progress seem, I hope it is giving you more interest in how my paintings come to life rather than freaking you out!

    Ok here they are…
