    My other Thirteens
13 People I love and why I love them.
disclaimer: I love you, too, I’m just limited to 13 today.
another disclaimer: In no particular order…
    1. Raehan. Raehan makes me think about the things that are important in life. Her writing is (slowly) opening my eyes and teaching me to appreciate more. Her friendship is kind and warm and it feels like I’ve known her a hundred years.

    2. Taba. I’ve known Taba for years, and she’s like a sister to me. She and I “get” eachother, our wierdness and oddities combined make for wonderfully hilarious conversations that leave me with lingering giggles and smiles.

    3. Nancy. Nancy is sweet, and kind, and what I love about her most is her intuitiveness.

    4. MommaK. She’s hilarious and tender, so loving and such a fiercely loyal friend, all combined I count myself fortunate to have met her.

    5. Lisa. Lisa is one smart cookie, and more often than not, she shows me that there’s always more than one way to view any given situation. She’s a wonderful friend and I’m glad to be counted among hers.

    6. Jacque doesn’t have a blog, if she did she’d never write in it anyway. She’s a busy mom and always makes time for everyone. She’s a sweet, faithful friend and I’m grateful that she dragged me kicking and screaming down to her church, because if she hadn’t, my family and heart might not have opened up to a church again.

    7. Robin. When I think about Robin, I think “THERE’S a real friend.” I love her for that, and I love her for being as open as she is, for trusting and sharing.

    8. Paige doesn’t blog either, but I wish she would. She has to be the one person in this lifetime that understands me so well she knows my thoughts sometimes before I even pin ’em down. I’ve known her for over 20 years, though – she trumps my hubby. She’s a beautiful soul who has only grown more beautiful with each passing year. I’ve never known anyone so thoughtful, honestly. Everyone who knows her loves her, as well they should.

    9. Clara (who just started a photoblog because I made her do it). I’ve known Clara for several years, and I have brain envy. Her cranium is packed to the rim, she’s like a walking encyclopedia. I love her for her brains, I admire her ability to be tactfully yet brutally honest, I love her calm, fearless approach to everything. She’s just an amazing human being, with a camera.

    10. Shizzlin’ Lisa. I know bloggers hold back, that’s the common sense in all of us. But this chick, she doesn’t seem to hold back, and I love her for that. She just puts it all out there, real and raw and so well written.

    11. Erikie is my very good long time artsy friend. She inspires me, she motivates me, and I adore her tenacity. She loves her life even on her worst days, and she is always positive – in any given situation. She’s amazing and her spirit is just so full of light and love. I adore her.

    12. Tommi, my sister, is a wonderful, kind, loving, nurturing, compassionate human being. I’m so lucky to be able to call her my sister and friend. (She could be a little more brave.)

    13. Ladybug, Colleen, Phoenix, Mrs. Fun, Terrilynn, Chickadee, Pamibe, Better Safe Than Sorry, Lolo, D, Sue, Ocean, Laura, YellowRose, Used*to*be*me AND T.Bird. I just had to get in as many of the bloggers that I’ve met who have had such a tremendous impact on my blogging experience and daily life. I appreciate all of their friendships and each of them have such a unique way about them that they’ve become part of my “people I think about and hope everything is perfect in their lives” daily routine. There are more of you, indeed, but I ran out of CoQ10 and my mental acquity isn’t up to par.

    The Next Day

    2007

I added the neatest photo to my photoblog lastnight, this snowflake landed on my sliding patio door. I grabbed my camera and got a macro shot of it. It’s neat to see a teeeeenie tiny snowflake all big like that. It also makes me want to upgrade to that 10mp Canon Digital Rebel. Sigh. (Click on the snowflake to see it larger at my photoblog.)

Thank you so much, to everyone who stopped by and left me birthday wishes! Birthdays are a big deal to me, so please let me know when yours is so I can mark it down and make you feel just as special on your day. 🙂

I have a lot of leftover cake, if anyone is still hungry. My sweet friend Jacque wanted to fulfill at least one of my birthday wishes, and so she appeared on my doorstep with the. most. delicious. german chocolate cake I’ve ever eaten. Oh my. I feel asleep lastnight with a healthy (or not) overdose of lasagna (courtesy of my hubby and children, it was delish!), cake and ice cream.

Low-fat, Low-cal birthdays just don’t exist in this world, do they?

    I’m 36!

Welcome to my Birthday! Today is the day. Help yourself to a nice piece of cake! Yes, that is my cake. Except that I put the words on there. The rest is totally edible. And the frosting? Buttercream, of course!

I woke up at 6:00, and nothing happened. So far, turning 36 hasn’t proven any different from yesterday. Here are some non-eventful events that have (or have not) unexpectedly occurred today.

    • None of my Birthday Wishes have come true (yet). Bummer.
    • I do not have the urge to hide my age or pretend I’m any younger. (I thought I would. Can any of you old people tell me at what age this occurs?)
    • I didn’t spontaneously lose the rest of my hair color and turn gray. (it could happen.) (yes, I was worried about that, too.)
    • I had an uncontrollable, unexplainable urge to wear red today. And so I did.
    • I got a new zit. It’s all shiny, and red. Hey, do you think that’s why I had that urge?
    • My husband put gas in the car. What a man.
    • He also woke me up with kisses and happy birthdays. Again. What a man.
    • He ALSO wrote an e-mail to John Mayer’s management team to request John make an appearance on my blog today or something. Well. Like that’ll happen. (I’m still gonna cross my fingers in hopes that he’ll think I’m cuter and more lovable than Jessica Simpson, and that he won’t be able to resist the urge to check his new amps with a nice jazzy rendition of happy birthday and upload it to YouTube just for me.)
    • One of my girlfriends sent me a GC to Amazon for a backyard birding book I’ve been eyeing! She rocks!
    • My other bestest buddy send me a GC to John Mayer’s gift shop. Does that girl know me or what?! She also rocks, of course!
    • My Catybug was so sad about having to go to school and missing spending my birthday with me that she got sick! Isn’t she so sweet! (Damn flu.)
    • I did not fall down on the sheet-of-ice parking lot taking the Chickeymonkey to school!
    • My hubby is going to make me my Birthday Lasagne for dinner!
    • My nonfat vanilla latte tastes the same as it did yesterday! Yes I was expecting it to be better. I thought I’d appreciate it more. Sadly, that’s not the case.
    • No wrinkles have appeared today to mark my age. Somehow, I keep thinking I’m a tree, and that I’ll get a new “ring” every year. Phew, I’m glad I’m not a tree.
    • I didn’t break a hip. Thank God. I was worried. Fortunately, I have nothing to report on the Brittle Boned Old Lady thing.

You are welcome to come over for dinner, cake and ice cream! I’ll even make ya a Purple Pig (which is the happiest most fun purple kool aid drink EVER)! I know, I’ve been a big tease the last few days, but aren’t you glad you stuck with me? NOW you can have cake!

    Delurking Week

    January

    2007

Lurk: to read messages on an internet discussion forum (as a newsgroup or chatroom) without contributing. Even M-W has amended it’s definition of Lurk to include something specific to the WWW. Isn’t that cute? I thought so.

Well now that I have your attention (I think it was the smiley paper plate that sucked you right in, wasn’t it?) you may as well know that I know you’re here. I can see you right through these little black dots I call my eyes (pretend I’m the plate – just work wth me). You stop by, day after day – and once in a while you’ll say something sweet that makes me smile (see? I’m smiling. I do that occasionally.), and then you disappear for days or weeks on end. And I miss you. I really do.

What does that leave me with? A sad smiley plate. That’s what. And how pathetic is a sad smiley plate? Very.

So please, I’m begging you now, give me something to look back on and smile about – the good old day when you commented, just that simple “HI” and little wavey smiley guy that made me grin. Then you can just click away and when you return next time, feel free to resume lurking. I won’t bug you until this time next year. I swear.

Also, if the results of this apparently mild-mannered comment-whoring experiment are totally embarassing, I am going to go pout and hide my blog under my bed or in the back of my closet. (just a little fyi.)

P.S. on an art related note, I was asked by a Windows Vista team member (yeah! seriously!) to enter something into this new Windows Vista WOW experiment-slash-contest. So I did. You can go browse, or just go directly to my contribution and vote on how many stars you think it should get.

    Oh. My.
    You have to see these.

    I want some.

You know, my birthday’s comin’ up here in just a couple of weeks.

    I’m a 10. (without question. heh)

(ok now quit shoe shopping and scroll down and pick a portrait.)

    Good Stuff

    2006

I received the best gifts this year. I got to have breakfast and spend time with my bestest bud ever (Paige), who traveled up to the frozen tundra from her tropical climate just to have brunch with me. (I wish!) I was so happy to spend a handful of hours with her, her man and their son – who just happens to be my Godson (and just came to realize I rock, with special thanks to John Deere). There’s never enough time, and there are never enough visits. I need to make more time for those special friendships – lesson learned.

The girls woke at 6am Christmas morning, squealing and giggling over the gifties under the tree. I design journal covers every year, this year Chickeymonkey got her first doodle pad. “Oodlez of Doodlez by Chickeymonkey”. Catybug’s cover design is based on her Smilly Girl (and family). They are already putting them to good use, young imaginations are going crazy around here! I found them resting later on Christmas morning attached to their Pengies and Monkeys.

Even Tuckerhead scored this year. He was a happy puppy when he saw a pressie in the middle of the floor, and he was a GOOD DOG when he just sat there and didn’t. even. touch it. Yeah! Merry Christmas to me! I untied the bow and opened it up so he could see something was in there, then he sniffed around until he pulled out his very own squeaky frog. In 10 minutes (or less) the poor thing lost an eye. (the frog, not the dog.)

Now all the youngin’s in our house have their cuddly cozy stuffies and although the two larger ones aren’t pulling the stuffing out of theirs with their teeth, they are enjoying them all the same.

I didn’t even get to finish the 12 days of Christmas sandwich bag doodles – heck I spent two days in hypertension mode shipping and then waiting for word on delivery of the GTO painting (final scan coming soon). I just kept picturing the package lying on a tarmac being run over by a package cart, sqwished and forgotten. I kept hoping Woody and Buzz might find it and lasso it and throw it on a plane for me. At least my wild imagination kept me entertained, huh? Oh – and yes, the painting arrived, intact, on Christmas Eve. (A day late, but it got there!)

To my sweet, dear, wonderful friends who sent me all the Harry and David packages, I sure hope that these will be followed by 4 week supply of nutrisystem meals. Good grief. (Note to self: complain more about wide spread and thunder thighs.) I still love you, though, I do. Keep in mind that I say that from the bottom of my pure cane sugar and cocoa buzz. Here’s hoping eggbeaters sustain me after the first of the year. Again.

Merry Christmas, everyone. Thank you for being part of my life, thank you for hanging out in my little bitty space with me – and thank you for letting me share my art (and stuff) with you. Hugs and blessings to each of you this Christmas, may your heart be lifted up by the Reason for the Season.
