Life, Love, and Critters – of course!
To all of the non-smokers of the world, I offer you my most sincere apologies. To the former smokers of the world, I thank you for your tolerance.
I quit smoking last summer. I started smoking when I was 17 – my mom was a smoker, my man was a smoker, I was always around the smell. I quit when I was pregnant, I started again later. We always smoked outdoors, so that our kids didn’t bathe in a cloud of stink. We knew it wasn’t good for them. We knew it wasn’t good for us. We just didn’t know how bad it was until our little one kept having sinus infections every Monday after hubby would leave for work. He was still smoking.
See, even though he was smoking outside, it still affected her. He’s quit now, doesn’t smoke around the house at all, but I’m sure in the occasional stressful situation while he’s at work, he’s got them handy. That’s okay, because he’s around other smokers, I’m sure. Chick, on the other hand, still gets yicky sinus infections when she’s around a lot of smoke. We finally connected the dots – her runny nose always started on Friday nights, and was a full blown infection by Monday morning. It went away by Wednesday and was back on Friday night. When he quit smoking, her infections quit, too.
Last weekend, she went to a birthday party. There was a group of smokers. She came home with a sinus infection.
You’re going to just love this. I just woke up from this dream, Someone Stole My Ceiling.
I did finish the ceiling lastnight, and soaked in a nice hot bath for a while. My fingers were swollen, cracked and dry from all the joint compound. My neck felt like my head was going to snap right off and hit the floor.
I rolled a texture into the ceiling using a roller that looks like an air filter. Our neighbor helped for a little while (thank you, neighbor!) and we got a huge chunk of it done – without J & PR I would still be up on that ladder, I’m sure. J brought over some bath salts late lastnight for me and it was JUST what I needed. Between that, some Burt’s Bees hand cream that came in a set from my good friend Lisa, and a couple of Aleve, I almost feel normal today. Aaah thank you friends!
In case you’re wondering, hubby is off on a training mission, which is why I’m doing this stuff. Of course. I always take on these kinds of projects when he’s gone, because I feel like he works so hard for us all the time, the last thing I want is for him to spend his time off working. I try to get all this stuff done while he’s away so that he can just come home and relax in it, maybe do a little trim work if he’s so inclined.
Today: Finishing seam and corner mudding, going to pick up flooring (yes I’m getting hardwood, but it’s faux hardwood – the snap lock laminate stuff), hopefully getting the wet sanding done (dry fast, joint compound!), priming, painting, and starting the floor installation.
It won’t be long, and I’ll be back to the easel!
Hopefully none of you are planning on stealing my drywall after all of this. I’d be pretty upset.
Five things that aggravate the crap out of me:

5. It’s been interesting to see how the girls occupy their time with very limited television. They’re really creative girls, and love their Littlest Pet Shop playhouse and critters. Seriously, who wouldn’t love these little things? They’re adorable.

7. And also getting the skinny on a house we adore to figure out if we really, really want to bid on it. It’s amazing. Well, it could be amazing. It needs a lot of work. We like work.
8. I had another version of this week’s 13 written lastnight, but it will remain unpublished. Feels good to have gotten it out of my head though, and it was funny, in an “effed up” stalker-y kind of way.
9. I had another dream lastnight that I remember well enough to blog in my dream blog, but really, it was about shingles and diarrhea. People were sick, and it was smelly! Yes I remember smells from my dream. Kinda smelled like my front yard, but that’s another story for after we move far, far away. Anyway, I’ll spare everyone the dream and hope for a better dream tonight.
10. We’ve had rain, rain and more rain here over the last couple of weeks. The other day, I was determined to mow the front yard – it was long and thick – and my mower about died trying to cut it. Also, while I was cutting the grass? Torrential downpour, three rows to go. Ugh.
11. I haven’t had to water my glorious floral landscaping in a week. There’s one great thing about all the rain! I love how fresh flowers look after a nice rain.
12. I am having a hard time thinking that one of the rooms in our home is going to be white for a few more days. I cannot. stand. white. walls. I am tempted to throw some food coloring into the joint compound. It works, trust me, I’ve done it before.
13. I am still trying to find a floor. If you run across a nice one, wrap it up and send it my way, would you? What the heck. Carpet or Hardwood? Linoleum layered hardwood looking plank stuff, or vinyl? I am so ready to just chuck the decision making out the window and buy some peel & stick – you know?

Survey says:
Some people are really grossed out right now.
Some people have an insane desire to start peelin’!
Some people are wondering if I’ll ever remember to put sunscreen on before I go out.
What say you?

How neat to have a painting influenced by two artists, eh? It turned out so cute!! Well done, Erikie!!
