Life, Love, and Critters – of course!
This is Adriana, she’s getting a peachy monochromatic portrait painted of her!
I am missing 2 of this group of 4×4 paintings, because I am waiting on canvas. Bah.
So, of my group of folks who were with me the night the countdown ran to zero, do ya know which one is yours?
In case you didn’t notice, I’ve been in a funk the last few days. I knew that before Mark got home that there would be an adjustment period both emotionally and financially. Some days are more surreal than others, and I think the surreal days really throw me for a loop.
I started working on Rusty’s portrait late last week. I had scheduled him to begin and end during the week, and now that’s all out of whack. That bugs me, since I’m pretty schedule-oriented when it comes to painting. Now I feel like I am not ready to go back to him yet and finish him, something happened and now there’s a hurdle I must climb.
I stopped to work on Adriana’s portrait, and Mark came home from work just as I was getting ready to paint. It threw me off a little bit, because I now have self-imposed guilt for painting during the little time we have together now that he’s back on the road. When I finished, I didn’t like the result. Some of you may have seen the pic of the painting I posted, but after looking at it the following morning I was really disappointed with myself and how it turned out, so I pulled the entry here and am going to re-paint her in a different color scheme.
Mark home = more food in the house = Leanne has munchies. That has really and very literally weighed me down. I started treadmilling routinely last week and increased my water intake again, when The Man is around, I let everything slide and I can’t let myself do that. I think that’s the crux of my funk, when I feel yicky it reflects in every single thing I do.
I lost my focus! EEK!
So now I am figuring out what I’m gonna do. I did place my order for the canvas I need to work on another portrait this week, that should be here tomorrow. I’m not quite ready to get back to Rusty, I am still painting Adriana (in her new color scheme) in my head. I have plenty of paintings scheduled, a lot of them coming up here are the little ones, the 4×4’s of assorted goodies. I’m inclined to get them all sketched and have them all in front of me, that tends to feed my artistic appetite.
Well, there you have it. I am going to try to go get inspired!! Clean some brushes, sketch some canvas, and crank some tunes.
Hope you have a good one!
To sum it up:
Brr.
Cleaned windows.
Emptied garage attic and house attic for garage sale.
Picked up Mark’s bifocals (baaahahahaaa and ooooohhhhlala!), had my new glasses repaired.
Walked around the mall.
Bought jeans for 8-year old weed.
Bought sandals for 3 and 8 year old weeds.
Bought books for 3 and 8 year old sponges.
Picked up repaired glasses.
Stopped at Blick for canvas that I need for what I’ll be painting this week. They’re out of stock, have to order online. Should have ordered online 2 days ago like I wanted. But no. Argh. Where did my great art karma go?
Went to new-just-opened-two-days-ago grocery store and walked 5 miles and bought stuff we really didn’t need because it was oh-so-cool to buy stuff in the new store and their “self-checkout” line.
Screwed around in the self-checkout line forever because the thing has a scale and camera (or something) and yells at you if you don’t set your milk down after you scan it. You are not allowed to put the item directly in your cart after scanning. You must pile it all on a tiny surface and await further instructions from the computer, because it knows way more than you do.
Came home, started dinner. Spaghetti. Nummiest spaghetti I’ve made in a long time. Mm.
Cleaned up after dinner.
Ate some Ben & Jerry’s. Dublin. Mudslide. Best. Ice Cream. Ever.
Fell asleep with full-belly 10 minutes after the girls went to bed.
Any of you have any interesting stories, jokes, poems or anything to share?
I’m sure something interesting will happen here at some point today, but for right now, I got nothin’. Jeez.
Help me out here, wouldjya?
I can’t remember the species of this lil chimp, but boy was he something special. We walked over to their cage and when he saw us he came over to us right next to his cage and sat down. He seemed to be relating to the Chickeymonkey, she was in her stroller and her hands were tucked into her coat pockets. He tucked his legs up under his chin and wrapped his arms around them, interlocking his fingers in the front of his knees.
He looked so sad, but I don’t know if he was sad because Jay looked sad (freezing), or if he was sad because of what I am seeing here in the reflection of his eye. The full pic of this is really nice and good enough to paint from, but the middle of his face is blackened out by his cage so I cropped it up to his eye.
I just finished Rusty’s underpainting. I’ll be completing this portrait tomorrow! BTW, here is what he will look like when he’s completed.
And in your spare time, watch this: Flash Sketch of a Woman
It is incredible.
Are you ready for this?! ONE MORE TIME, I will show off my newest masterpiece. Man-o-man. 3 hours to scan, my computer kept misbehaving so I called Dell for more virtual memory. (That’s right, another gig of VM just for the lion!) Then I had to reduce my scans by 50% just so my programs wouldn’t crash out on me. More memory will arrive tomorrow, then I can piece the original full size scans together and it will be large enough for a near-full-size print.
I thoroughly enjoyed painting this guy, and hope many more people consider custom wildlife paintings. It gives me a great opportunity to broaden my gallery and get to the zoo for some photography sessions!
Click “read more” for all of the detail images. There are plenty, and they rock! (Toot, toot, toot – it’s so unlike me, but this piece does deserve it!)

So far this morning I’ve varnished my Lion painting (you will see scan details soon!), done a load of laundry, made scrambled eggs for Chickiemonkey and sunnyside-uppers for Caitibug, loaded and started the dishwasher, took out the trash and Swiffered the floors. Then, since I had 5 minutes left before the Bug took off for school, I decided I had plenty of time to work up the background on Rusty! An hour later…
