(Colors vary from previous WIP shots because I ran out of daylight.)
The Flesh
What colors did you think you’d see on my palette? I’m curious.

I’ve got the skintone all blocked in, now the challenge will be to make them look like them, and not just people. Right now they have general shapes and color, and after I complete the underpainting (clothing included) and go back to detail the painting, their personalities will start to emerge.

You can see the photograph of the bride & groom that I’m working from. I’ve just worked in the background, and started underpainting the whites in the couples clothing. I’ll be working on the skintones for a while, getting a very rough layer of values for their skin and clothing. The background though, is finished for the most part. I modified the horizon line from the photograph, and matched the colors of the sunset really well. It does give a nice ambience to their portrait already, and I’m happy with how it turned out.

I’ve got a few irons in the fire right now so if posting is sparse you know why.

Here’s another underpainting, this is Littles, an 8″ x 8″ oil portrait. Both Joey & Littles will take a day or two to dry before I can work their next layer(s).

Joey and Littles are two cat portraits that I’m working on in oils. This is the underpainting of Joey’s portrait. Joey’s painting is small (4″ x 4″), so it will probably only need one more layer of fur and enhancements before he’s finished.
