    2006

    Finally completed, heeeeere’s Joey!

He’s an 11×14 oil painting, a custom dog portrait of a handsome black poodle – and he’ll be shipped later this week. I’ll scan and put up the final detail images when the painting has dried.

    Church Mural Completed

    January

Remember the Church mural I started back in October? Well, I finished it today. Have a look:

The wall space is 8 foot by – I don’t know – 12 foot? It took a while to finish, but I’m happy to have that scratched off my to-do list.

I came home to a couple of birthday packages, so I’m all excited! I have to go make some phone calls and then get back to business, my first official project as a designer for EW is coming along really cool and will be finished some time next week. I’m all excited to make it perfect for the portfolio!

Tomorrow, though, I’m not workin’ at all. Takin a day off, finally.

    Maybe.

    Well, I’ll try.

(from last progress update… “This is an 11×14 oil painting, a custom dog portrait – he’s a black poodle…”)

Here’s the first layer of Joey’s fur. His eyes, nose and mouth are done, although I’ll probably add a smidge more shine to his teeth and tongue. I’m estimating about 3-4 more layers of paint for the fur before he’s completed, but I’ll paint that wet-in-wet and finish his portrait up tomorrow.

(from last progress update… “This is an 11×14 oil painting, a custom dog portrait – he’s a black poodle. I’ll post another progress when I complete his underpainting.”)

This is Joey’s completed underpainting. This is the base from which I’ll paint his fur, deepen and brighten his eyes and mouth, and give his coat a nice soft shine.

    Photos With Santa

    2005

This is what I did today, it’s a photo backdrop for the elementary school to use for Photos with Santa in a couple of days. Not only did I paint this thing – which by the way covers a good part of my studio floor at about 8 feet wide by 4 feet high – but I’ll be the photographer for the event, too.

The most important part of this backdrop, of course …

THIS. This is what I do for a living. I paint. I finally, finally paint. I have to first give special thanks to Yellow Rose. Why? Last week I went to her blog for the first time, and she had some music playing on her sidebar. She was kind enough to let me know the artists, and this morning I downloaded an assorted variety of songs by The Corrs. That music (it’s Celtic, Mom) kept me in my groove while I painted today, and will be what I have playing in the studio while I’m working this painting.

BTW, this is an 11×14 oil painting, a custom dog portrait – he’s a black poodle. I’ll post another progress when I complete his underpainting.

Feels good to paint again. I needed this.

This is my sketch of Joey, a black poodle portrait I’ll be painting over the next week or so. I’m painting him on an 11×14 hardboard panel (aka masonite) in oil.
