“..In recognition and appreciation of their role in supporting “their” individual citizen-soldier and the efforts of the Army National Guard as a whole.”

‘Tis a fancy little pin, eh? I have a medal, too, which oh my goodness, has to be bigger than an olympic medal. I’m not sure but wow. It’s big. Now we’ll be needing a display case for the honors, ribbons, certificates, plaques, medals etc. that we’ve received since he went back on active duty.

It was really hot yesterday, especially in the Armory where everyone was gathered. Here’s a small sampling of the “Where’s Waldo” game we get to play. This is just one platoon out of 4, the place was just crawling with cammies.

The pinning ceremony was scheduled so much earlier than the rest of the events that we just couldn’t hang out for everything. It was hot, the three of us being sick and all, it had spanned across the noon hour and we were all hungry and needed our medicines. Pitiful bunch aren’t we? At one point Mark but his hand on my head and I was dripping sweat but cold and clammy. Yeah, time for us to go.

I have a few more pics to share if you’d like to see them…

That guy over there, he’s pretty cute eh?
My heart still flutters when I see him, especially when I see him in uniform. (whoo-hoo!)

Here are all the awards we received yesterday. Top left: Defender of Freedom certificate, which is issued by the National Guard for the National Guardsmen. It’s got a bit of the history of the Guard on the left, and a paragraph of recognition for services on the right. Top right: Medal (see below). Bottom left: This is a really well put together yearbook kind of book that covers the 1st Cav. Next to the yearbook is a small coin, that’s a limited edition National Guard service honor coin. Next to the coin is the Flag, folded and encased with National Guard emblems and engraving on the case. Then over to the right of the flag are the two small pins – one is mine and one is Mark’s.

This is the medal. The inside lid reads:
    “We will not waver,
    We will not tire,
    We will not falter,
    and we will not fail.

    Peace and Freedom
    will prevail.”

There you go. We’re going to have to start shopping for a case or something, otherwise all of this will end up put on shelves out of view. I’ve been wanting to create something to hold his Purple Heart (and “stuff”) and have it displayed by that portrait I painted of him in uniform, now we need something a little bigger I think!

He was also offered a really great opportunity yesterday that he’s considering, I’m not sure how long it will be before any action is taken on that should he decide to accept it, but I’ll let ya know. I’m all excited for him about it!!

Defenders of Freedom”. Hmmm…where have I heard that before…hmmmm.

I didn’t even know this about you!
He has a Purple Heart? WOW!

My husband is Army, Vietnam-era. (he is much older than me, tee-hee!) No, he never served in country, but he signed up voluntarily when the other boys were being drafted. Of course, this gave him more choices, you know.

His Dad was a the left side-gunner on the “Hot *to* Go” in the Korean War. You know, those bomber planes with the sexy ladies painted on them, called “nose art”? Yeah, pretty cool.

I thank you, your country thanks you!

Annie, I guess I should really do a “100 things” huh? Save people from going back and reading archives! Those old bomber planes – they really have so many stories attached to them. I’m sure your hubby has some good ones, too – even if he wasn’t in country!

    Thanks for the thanks!

They gave the awards out to those that supported us thru the deployment. With only one being given to each soldier I felt really good about giving it to the most special person in my life.

I wish that I could give one to each and every person that sent me care packages and supported the family thru the time. You all know who you are and for that I give you my heart felt THANK YOU, and all my love.
