    5 Pieces of Greenboard!

    January

    2005

I did it! I got productive!

First I’d like to thank Martha, for some reason she managed to motivate me today – I think it was when she said something like “you sound like you’re in pain!” Yes, I am in pain, and I realized that I’ve never let that stop me before, so what the heck am I letting it beat me down now for? I’ve got a bathroom to build! 😀

I managed to hang 5 pieces of greenboard this afternoon, starting on the easy walls. A few more sheets and the wall to the left and the back wall behind the tub will be done, and then (crossing my fingers here) someone will be over to help me with the electrical stuff so I can get the complicated wall done. A lil’ tapin’, a lil’ muddin’, and voila – she’s ready for primer!

I got a cool early birthday pressie from a very good friend today, too! I think it was about that time this afternoon that I decided those semi-sweet chocolate baking squares needed a home, so I’ve got this really smell-up-the-house-yummy pound cake baking (courtesy Taba!), and I’m going to drizzle melted chocolate on it. I told the girls that we’ll have cake for breakfast tomorrow. Heh! Why not?! Mmmm it’s almost done, I better go melt those squares. Wanna piece of cake?

    At a loss.

The plumber was back out today and fixed the leak. And that’s the progress for today.

I’m stuck!! Not only is my back screaming at me with every step I take, but even the next piece of drywall has me scratching my head. I have to put a couple of braces in so I have something to hang the cabinet onto. The built-in cabinets were so screwy, there’s nothing under there but studs, and one stud isn’t going to be enough to hold that cabinet up.

The day is more than half over, and I’ve managed to accomplish very little unless you count loading the dishwasher and taking a nice nap with my lil’ chickiemonkey!

I’m also running out of time to give my full attention to the bathroom. I’ll be starting 8 commissions this coming Monday, and getting the Viola finished as well.

Needless to say, I’m feeling rather unproductive today. I think I’m running out of Mark juice! He’s been out doing his thing since Sunday, and I’m ready to hear that rooster crow.

There’s my totally un-motivating entry of the day. LOL ::yawn::

    Bathroom Progress

The rebuilding is going, slowly. The plumber was here for almost 4 hours (cha-ching), but the sink is in and working! One of the pipes he soldered in the shower is leaking, and epoxy isn’t holding it back so I have to get him back to fix it, hopefully he can do that before I work my way over to the shower walls.

We picked out the floor today and I’ve got most of it in, I’m giving up for today though. You know those backaches you get where it hurts to stand up straight? Yea, I have one of those. I’m all hunched over looking pretty pathetic, and feeling exactly how I look. LOL

Next up.. finish the floor, drywall above the toitie and around to the right wall, install the wall cabinet, take the medicine cabinet/light fixture out (after turning off the power, heh!), drywall that part above the sink & run the power through for the new light, attempt to install the new light…and hopefully continue putting up the drywall around the rest of the room. That part should be easy, there won’t be any more obstacles!

I decided to stay with white and silver for the walls and fixtures, and with this color flooring I’m going to pull the deep teal and pale gold out with towels, a new shower curtain and those nifty bathroom accessories. It’s going to be pretty simple in there, but I think that will be pretty, yea?

Alrightie then, here’s how it looks after today’s labor.

    She did it!!

Lil’ Missa Jay went on the big (little) potty this morning! YAYYYY!!

Ok back to the bathroom. Plumber guy is here fixing up the shower, I’ve drywalled around the sink plumbing so when he’s done with the shower we’ll install the sink.

    😀

I’ve decided to do a tub surround for the walls vs. tiling and grout and junk. It’s starting to come together. Phew.

    Bathroom Makeover WIP

You guys sure you want to see this? LOL

I just finished the demolition and cleaned up the gigantic mess I made in what has to be the world’s smallest bathroom. The plumber was here today and supervised as I installed the new toitie (yep, I did it!), and he’ll be back tomorrow to get the shower stuff done and help me with the sink. I’ll start drywalling tomorrow, I have to start early to get a couple of pieces in before he gets here so the sink can go in. I’m making progress, right? Cause right now I just feel sore. 😛 Why do I do this stuff!?

The bathroom demolition is going well, and I’ve scheduled a plumber for tomorrow afternoon. I ripped the sink out this morning, and ug! The pipe was corroded and disgusting. Then I looked into the tank on the toilet, and the inside of the handle just broke off!! So, great timing for this project. Jeez. A few more days of this, a day off, and I will be a painting fool.

I know you guys would rather see my wildlife works in progress rather than my home improvement works in progress, and it’s coming soon! Hang in there with me, this is the last room left!!

(I’m nesting big time, can you tell? I feel pregnant. LOL)

    The stars have aligned,
    they can’t be denied.
My crowbar is calling my name.

    Menards had a sale,
    so of course without fail,
    proper measurements have been obtained.

    The dumpster next door,
    will be visited once more.
    Home improvement is my game.

    A sedan full of stuff,
    aren’t I just so tough?
Remodeling the bathroom will be my claim to fame.

    One Purple Heart

Mark was awarded a Purple Heart yesterday for injuries he sustained from an IED (improvised explosive device) attack on his team in December.

For some reason, saying “congratulations” for an award like this seems really awkward. “Thank you” doesn’t say enough, “I’m so proud” is accurate, but only partial.

I’m so grateful, and thankful, that he is alive to receive that recognition of service. It is just proof that our guys put their lives on the line for us every single day.

    Serendipity

“Yet even in certain defeat, you must cling to the belief that life is not merely a series of meaningless accidents or coincidences, but rather it’s a tapestry of events that culminate together in an exquisite, sublime plan.”

“If we are to live life in harmony with the universe, we must all posess a powerful faith in what the ancients used to call ‘fatum’, commonly referred to as destiny.”

From one of my favorite movies, Serendipity. Deep thoughts for the day.

I am ready for a more normal day today, one of just tidying up a bit, maybe running the vaccuum, finally putting together that e-mail for my clients, and definitely fixing a couple of layouts on a few pages of my website. I’m looking forward to a day off from flooring!

I even did laundry this morning. I wouldn’t go so far as to say I enjoyed it, but I didn’t cringe, so that’s an improvement!

Hey Mark, when you read this, did they get any pics of the ceremony yesterday you can send me? I’d like to post it here for everyone to see if you don’t mind.

What are all you lurkers doing this fine Saturday morning? 😉
