I thought it might be a fun thing to start up a Thursday Thirteen thing. If you blog, I’d love for you to participate!

Every Thursday, I’ll post a list of 13 things about me, trying not to repeat anything from my 100 things list. These things will be fun, recent things even, that will give you a little more insight into what I’m all about, like it or lump it! LOL

So, bloggers, if you want to participate, I’d love it! Your list can be purely fiction, non-fiction, or a bit of both – it is totally up to you. Thirteen things is all I ask for, and what do you get in return? Linkage! If you do it, leave a comment here and link me to your Thursday Thirteen. I will be sure to update my entry with links to yours, and then you can continue the chain if you like! I will link to everyone who participates and leaves a link to their 13 things. Trackbacks, pings, comment links accepted!

    My Thursday Thirteen:

    1. I’ve given up giving up my creamer for black coffee!

    2. I cut my own hair, and I’ll be getting my clippers out today. I think!

    3. I’m working on another custom blog graphic that’s pretty complex.

    4. I bought a new office chair last weekend!

    5. I hate thongs. (See Michele.)

    6. I “met” a new blogger yesterday, KB, and she’s very cool!

    7. I cleaned my desk last weekend and found a book of stamps.

    8. I recently purchased three books: (1) How to Draw Cartoons for Comic Strips, (2) How to Draw Cartoon Animals and (3) Drawing the Head & Figure. Yes I know how to draw, but I am always up for improving my skills!

    9. Some of you know about my affection for pretty things to write with. I am the proud new owner of the full set of Staedtler Triplus Fineliners. They rock.

    10. I was on the phone most of the day Tuesday, and at the end of the day in the middle of my last phone call of the day, my cordless battery died.

    11. It’s all recharged now.

    12. I’m very much a plain Jane when it comes to jewelry (cross/chain, wedding ring only). I put my watch on only when I leave the house, along with a very special bracelet given to me by my bestest buddy Paige last Christmas.

    13. I am in the process (right now, just hung up with the chiro’s office) of scheduling an MRI to find out what’s really wrong with my back!

    Your Birthdate: January 15
With a birthday on the 15th of any month, you are apt to have really strong attachments to home, family and domestic scene.

The 1 and 5 equaling 6, provide the sort of energy that makes you an excellent parent or teacher.

You are very responsible and capable.

This is an attractive and an attracting influence.

You like harmony in your environment and strive to maintain it.

You tend to learn by observation rather than study and research.

You may like to cook, but you probably don't follow recipes.

This number shows artistic leanings and would certainly support an talents that may be otherwise in your makeup.

You're a very generous and giving person, but perhaps a bit stubborn in ways.

Welp folks, you’re now reading the blog of a juried member of MCFA, and my work will be exhibited in the (brick & mortar!) RiverCenter Gallery during the 2006/2007 exhibition schedule.

    WHOOHOOO!

This is a huge step forward, so those of you who already own my work, hold on tight!

P.S. Those of you who voted yesterday for my Catfish “Trapped”, thank you!! I’m not sure votes were registered though, and it looks like the code is finally showing accurate results. If your vote registered, you’ll see the current results – if not, you can cast your vote again! (psst…mine is the very last one on the page!)

I know a few of you have been waiting for my new gallery layout to go live. Well it’s allllmost ready, so I’ve decided to show you and see how you like it!

    -> New Gallery < -

There are a few more things that need tweaking, of course, it won’t go live until it’s all done. I’m going to work on it for a little while this afternoon as I wait for the mailmain to bring me that ONE piece of mail that will tell me if a jury thinks I’m any good, which for some reason always gets me in a tizzy.

Anyhoo, tell me what you think about that new setup! I’ll be in there doin’ stuff while you’re looking.

    Growing!

This face. When this face looks at you and proclaims “I’m growing! RIGHT NOW!” How can you not believe it?

She’s so cute! She’s sqwishalicious, even! And she means it. Just look at her. She knows she’s growing, and she’s absolutely thrilled about it!

Seriously. While we were out of town a couple of weekends ago, Chickeymonkey proclaimed “Mommy I am growing right now!” And that picture (although taken at the evening parade & fireworks show at Disneyworld), was the look on her face when she matter-of-factly stated her spurt was occuring at that very moment, in the middle of dinner.

    Catch-A-Catfish – VOTE ONLINE!

    2005

    Voting has begun!

This morning my Chiro’s office let me know that my Catfish “Trapped” is featured in the Life section of today’s paper! YAHOO!

    So here’s the scoop:

The Catch-A-Catfish art, environmental, education and tourism project was created to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Rock Island Clean & Beautiful.

More than 30 of the area’s top artists submitted drawings for selection by sponsors and many of the nearly 5-foot catfish have been on display in front of businesses, in lobby areas and/or at not-for-profit organizations since Memorial Day.

On Aug. 21, in conjunction with the weekend activities of the Xstream Cleanup, a Catch-A-Catfish auction will take place on the Great River Plaza in downtown Rock Island. The event will run from noon to 8 p.m.

My catfish is waaaay on the bottom of the page, and there’s only one picture of him. So, for those of you searching for the Rock Island Clean & Beautiful Catch-A-Catfish project, I give you the full view of my catfish “Trapped”, when it was on display in Davenport. Also, have a look at the painting in progress (the whole Catfish Category)! Unfortunately, the image shown in the paper and on the voting page does not display the most important details of my painting, the belly!

I’m asking you to vote. Yep, I sure am! VOTE VOTE VOTE! And if you like mine, vote for MINE! I’d like that even better! And tell your friends to vote, and tell your friends to tell their friends to vote.

When you’re done voting, please stop by here and comment so I can thank you most ecstatically!!

Note: The page seems to sometimes not want to load. I’m contacting the ISP to find out why, so if it doesn’t load please try again later! Also, the webmaster told me that you should have cookies enabled to view results.

10:08 AM: There are 46 Votes!
11:32 AM: The votes and percentages are screwy, they’re looking into it!

4:47 PM: There are 144 Votes now, I’m still #4 but JEEZ hello! I have 8% and the lead has 39%! :gurgle: I’m drowning!

    Wednesday, 8/10

    We Call Them Locusts

Really, the proper name is Cicada. I just took this photograph right outside our front door. This is amazing to me, their cycle of life. His wings are still wet, as he just emerged from the shell that mirrors him. He’s hiding from his predators now, as he will until he’s dry and can fly. Then I’ll watch as sparrows trail him in flight in hot pursuit of their dinner.

The lazy days of August always bring the steady buzz of Cicada’s, I wonder how many of them fill the trees around us?

    Back 2 School Shopping

    August

    2005

Hey! I’m having a busy weekend, how about you??

I took my daughter out school-clothes-shopping yesterday and wow. It was fun!! She’s 9 now, dontchyaknow, and I can’t just pick something that I think will be cute and say “here, try this on!” Those days are over.

First we went to Gordman’s, where we figured out they really don’t care if 8-10 year olds wear clothes or not. They have about 10 racks of clothing versus the 500+ in every other department. So we trifled through their sparse assortment of “the same shirts with slightly different patterns in 4 different colors”. She loved them.

Me: “Honey look at this one! It’s (different!) PRETTY!”
C: Sqwishes up her nose and quickly shakes her head.
C: Picks (another) pink shirt and says “oooh Mom! I like this one!”
Me: “Oh that’s (the same thing I have in my hand, only this one is blue!) NICE, honey!”

And so it went, blue, then pink, then blue, then pink, and I got her to pick one white shirt (because it had blue stitching on the front). Pants? Dear Lord someone please stop making flare pants. PLEASE. I beg of you. My child hates them, she claims other children hate them, and there is not one. single. straight leg. to. be. found. UGGG. Send a parent on a wild goose chase much?

I finally got her settled into “boot cut”.

Me: “They’re not going to cover up your whole foot honey, I promise you won’t look like you’re floating when you walk!”
    C: “MooOOoOOmmm, I don’t LIKE those!”
Me: “Could you just try them on and see if I’m right? I bet I’m right. I’m allllways right!”
C: “Ugggaahhhhh (or whatever that noise was)”
Me: “I promise I won’t make you wear them out of the store. If you hate them, we won’t get them.”
    C: “Okay, fine.”

She didn’t mind the legs. She was okay with the legs. But JEEZ, they want a 9 year old to wear hipsters and show their buttcracks, too! WTH is wrong with these designers! She hated them. She kept trying to pull them up to her waist, jumping and twisting and distorting her little body in frustration. We gave up.

She ended up with several very pretty skirts, though!

All in all, between Gordman’s, Kohl’s and Target, we scored her a nice little wardrobe for just half-a-fortune, and I was pleased. 10 shirts, (5 short sleeve, 5 long sleeve) one sweater, 4 skirts, and 6 pair of trou, 1 from last year and we did manage to find some capri’s, slacks (NOT jeans, iew!) and leggings that met my 9-year-old’s criteria.

(And I found a pretty shirt, a pair of capri’s for $11 and a nice pair of jeans for $15! My clothes were cheaper than hers! Neener-neener!)

We shopped for 6 hours, came home and went grocery shopping, came home and I had an allergy attack (to eye shadow no less!), took a benedryl and passed out cold.
